The academic curriculm offered at Ashford is mediocre at best. The school does not offer any CP or AP courses geared in properly preparing students for college. The curriculum is not rigorous nor challenging. Their courses are weighted..whatever that means. Those who have graduated (in the top 10 %) and attended college have had to take remedial courses because they were not adequately prepared. For those students who are academically gifted they are stunted by the sixth grade when TAG (talented and gifted) has ended. The school does not offer dual enrollment, but they do have a Career Tech Course that is available if your interests are in being a mechanic, farmer, or cable installer. I highly value the education that my child recieves and sending my child or any truly gifted child to this school would be a great disservice to them. But as I was told in a school conference..they can always join the military. As a new resident to the area I am highly disappointed in this schools academic performance.

I do feel this school could use updating and more caring about the children and their studies.I feel too much attention paid to things that don't really matter and things that do are ignored sometimes. The kids seem to be good kids here though pretty much.

I graduated from AHS in 2005 & I was not prepared for the "real" world. I feel like the teachers didn't offer the extra help some students needed & I do not feel like the prinipal did anything to help the school either! It was like the administrative staff was always changing and you never knew who you were going to speak with if you went into the office. I just think things got very unorganized!!

I am currently a student at Ashford High School. This school isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. For the most part, the teachers are very nice. They will spend extra time on something if a student doesn't understand it completely. The students who don't like the school are those who don't care about their studies. The principal and vice-principal are caring, yet strict when neccessary. They try their best to keep our school is safe and to make sure it is a good learning environment. The only thing I would complain about is the food. It isnt the greatest, but I guess that's what type of food you get in a recession. All in all, students will enjoy this school if they put forth their own effort by studying and obeying the rules. P.S: Please excuse my grammar. I am only an 8th grader.

My experience at Ashford was horrible. I attended that school my whole life until I graduated in 2006. I mean once I hit college, I was so far behind that I didn't know then, that I do now. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to this school unless you can tolerate all the drama you will get from numerous people at the school.

I have went to Ashford all my life. As a student, I want to leave, and go somewhere else. Mainly, because of administration. The lady principal is way to negative on all the students, and all she seems to want to do is make everyones lives misreable, when she really overdoes it. I wish there was a way to get all new, better, administration in there.

As a parent of a student going into the 10th grade next year who has attended Ashford schools all of her life, I feel that the area schools, as a whole, are doing the best they can do with what they have to work with. I believe that if there was more parental involvement, anyone with a negative attitude would realize this. I would like to see a Parental Involvement Team develop at the Middle and High school levels. AHS is making a huge effort thru the students with programs such as the Envision Team developed thru the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, which comprises of students committed to the betterment of the school. Funding for projects needed have to be presented and approved, they are not readily available, which right now are being planned for Music and Arts courses. We as parents should be more involved.

As the parent of a 2006 graduate and fresh out of elementary school 7th grader I think Ashford High School compares well with other high schools in the area. If support from the community for the band was as great as the support from the community for the athletic department it would truly be a blessing, but on the whole the involvement of the community and the parents is excellent. There could be more elective classes in the arts, languages etc.... but the county school system offers everything they can. I am happy with Ashford High School.

As a graduate of AHS, I have to say that I feel the standards were way below what they should have been. Being out in the 'real world', trying to continue my education I feel that there are numerous things that I have missed out on. Also, the school politics were horrific and the principal leadership was a joke. I never felt welcomed to ask questions of any sort. I felt that the principal herself was biased to which students she preferred and would help succeed. I also felt that the guidance counselor was never up to par. I never once received any real 'guidance' from them--they were 'too busy'. If I could do it all over again, I would have begged my mother to put me in a private school.
