The receptionist needs an attitude adjustment. I don't know if she was having a bad day, but you should not take your personal problems or attitudes to work with you. Everyone needs to be treated with the same kindness and respect as received. I didn't feel she was a good representation of the school.

OMG, I LOVE, LOVE EPIC. It is positive, it has a lot going on for student, parent, and community. My son is 1st grade and he says he has an EPIC day. I have written the superintendent to advise him that our experience is a 180 from last year at another school. Academically, my son gets As and is pushed!

I love this school. My child has really learned a lot from his teachers over the years, and he's in fourth grade this year. He has been blessed to have such caring and compassionate teachers. He was nominated for the gifted program in 2006 by his second grade teacher whom is retired now, and was accepted. She really wanted that for him before she retired because she new he was talented and gifted. I have nothing bad to say about EPIC. They have an excellent PTA. I love it.

Epic is great, my son transfered from a Catholic School where they were not meeting his needs. He was an excellent student at his Catholic, but they gave him a 'false sense of success'. When transferred to Epic he needed a tutor in Math and English to catch up to where his classmates were. The Principal has an Open Door Policy, the Teachers are great, the Support Staff are wonderful.

I disagree with the previous review. The PTA and another organization is working on getting the new playgroung equipment. Money has been paid! This particular parent must not be invovled because as you continue to be involved in the school you see those parents that are involved too. I have seen some hard headed children and the teachers can not simply allow those few students to rule their classes. EPIC has great teachers, great parental involvment and will soon have a new playground for recess. As parents, we must contribute and help the teachers make the school the best place for our children. We can not sit back and criticize the efforts of others.

This is my first year at the school and I was surprised at the way the teachers speak o the children. I see parents at the school but I do not get a good since of involvement. The school is without a play yard, art teacher and a comprehensive music program. As I observe other teacher I am not left hopeful about this school.

Excellent school. My child is in the gifted program there and is doing very well. She is also in the band which she enjoys. I love the cultural diversity of the school as well as the regular students being able to interact with the special needs students.

The first day that I entered EPIC school , the children were transferring from one place to another and they were well behaved and respectful, this told me a lot about the importance of discipline to the instructors. My son is now promoted to the third grade and every teacher has been challenging to him and the other children on an individual basis. EPIC is definitely a place that promotes meritocracy and I am very pleased, and proud of my son's accomplishments since he started school there three years ago. T.Morton

My daughter has just completed Kindergarten at EPIC, and I must say I am very pleased with the school. The parent involvement is remarkable! The PTA is constantly having events after school that involve family and fundraisers to help improve the school. Most faculty and staff are very friendly and easy to get along with. The only downside, as is the case with most schools in Birmingham, is that more funds need to be available to update the building. The building itself is wonderfully constructed to accomdate the needs of the special needs children, but I think a few coats of fresh paint would make all the difference.

My daughter was invited to attend Epic and I believe this was the best place for her to be. She was able to interact with students of all races and backgrouds. She was encourage to reach her goals and go beyond those goes reaching for more.

The main problems I see here is the lack of character counseling and how some of the before school and after school staff speak to the children in disrespectful manners. We have had problems with some of the substitutes using foul and abusive language. We have also had a problem with the lunch food not being fully cooked and unsanitary practices by some of the temporary kitchen staff.
