Good public school district for Autism

I currently live in Irondale and have heard terrible things about the school system in general and especially regarding special education needs. My 2 1/2 year old was recently diagnosed with high functioning autism. He will get services from Early Intervention for now, but once he turns 3, it is up to the public school system to provide services. Anyone have a child on the spectrum that is happy with the services in your city? Thanks.

My son is high functioning autistic also and he is 4 years old. Right now he goes to Epic elementary. They started an autism Pre-K this year. It is in Birmingham and I've been pleased with the progress my son has made. I think the class starts at 3 year olds, my sons class has 3 year olds in it. I am in a great school system.... The Oak Mountain Schools and in Elementary School the Teachers were GREAT with autistic children and the get to have the chance to interact with other kids who are like them and they also get to interact with people who don't have special needs and they are always nice to them!!!! The grades in he Elementary School are Preschool-Third and then they go to the Intermediate, then the Middle, then the High School. They have a website which you can learn more from but the school is in Shelby County/ Birmingham.... I hope this Helped!!! :)71482

I CURRENTLY UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU COMING FROM I HAVE A SON AS WELL WITH AUTISM DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR AND SPEECH DELAY SINCE HE GRADUATED FROM STEP TO STEP FROM EARLY INTERVENTION TO HEADSTART JCCEO AND TO BIRMINGHAM SCHOOL SYTEM THEY BASIC COULD NO LONGER HELP MY CHILD SO I MOVE TO TO JEFFERSON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM WHERE MY CHILDREN NOW ATTEND ERWIN AND CENTER POINT ELEMENTARY HOWEVER THE SCHOOL DIDN"T HAVE THE SERVICE FOR MY MY SON HE WAS 6 AT THE TIME. THE SCHOOL CORDINATOR AT CENTER POINT REFFERAL ME TO REGISTER MY SON AT BURKETT WILLIAM SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN WITH THE SAME NEEDS OR SPECIFIC THAT IS A GREAT SCHOOL WITH RATE OF **********10 STARS THEY BUS TO AND FROM SCHOOL ITS GRADES FROM K-12 AND CAN BE PLACE BACK IN ZONE SCHOOL WHEN HE ADAPTED TO OTHER CHILDREN.HE ON MEDICINE TO CONTROLL HIS HYPERTENSION SO HE CAN LEARN IN SCHOOL FOR HE WANT BE DISRUPTIVE.71686
