I dislike WA because there are not enough opportunities. There is not enough hands on activities or expirements. Those are important in a school. All we do are take notes and I vocabulary, which are both important but we don't do any hands on activities. Also, WA could really improve their lunches, because I've found hair in my lunches a few times and I don't think that their lunches taste good. And their hallways are to small and cramped and kids get pushed into the hall. WA needs a lot of improvements.
Not a college prep. school. It is ok if you want to go to a small college, jr. college, or trade school, but not to a large 4 yrs. college like Auburn. Has a weak math & science program.
I think WA is a wonderful school! All the children ma hate school but thy love WA! As do i. WA....you could lower your tuition a alot though... The tuition should pay for activities, supplies, books, and lunch/break. It is such a lovely school though. But if a teacheror somone with h school reads this..think about the tuition..some people hae a hard time keeping all of it payed.
I think wa is a wonderful, christan, and loving school.even tho it is small it does give you a good educationg.Altho we lost our priciple that served 23yrs this year I know God will still keep the school strong:)
I think Wilcox Academy is a good school. Although our size is small, yes, I wish we had a few more choices with activities/athletics.
It bothers me that several of the teachers are not qualified to teach.
wondeful, family environment with teachers and a principal who gives his all.
congratulations on winning AISA Blue Ribbon School 7 years straight-keep it up, thank you faculty and staff for all your hard work
Parents expecting WA to live up to its potential doesn't mean we don't love & support WA. In fact, we show more love/support by caring enough to ackowledge WA is moving in the wrong direction with each passing school year with decreased student enrollment, teacher/student moral, participation/eligability in sports/cheerleading, & an increase in student drop-out, drug use, & need for summer school. In the area we live, parents don't have a choice but to send their children to WA; therefore, we all need to work towards living up to SACS/Blue Ribbon status by implementing effective leadership, exemplifing excellence in teaching, improving student performance, increasing course offerings, encouraging more community interaction. School improvement in an ongoing process. Yes, WA is a value - lowest tuition & lowest teacher pay - it shows!
Parents send their children to WA by choice. WA has excelled in many forums and we will not do so well in others simply because of our size. There are many things to love about WA.
WA is a 'basic,' good, school. However, there is always room for improvement, & we should have a willing spirit to do so. I would personally like the board to implement a tutoring program to help many students who struggle. I believe their parents would be willing to pay the extra expense if it meant their child could be a successful student. Not all students are high achievers, nor can all students go to college, but no student wants to fail & be labled a 'poor' student b/c they need extra help. A great school finds a way for all students to do their best. Yes, the opportunity is there for those who can 'get it' (no matter where they go to school), but for students who are sinking year after year, a tutoring program could prevent alot of unnecessary pain & change a child's life.
We also love Wilcox Academy and support it 100%. WA and the faculty, board and parents work hard to make our school a safe, loving, educational environment for our children. Yes, we want more things for our children but we live in a small community and we make sacrifices to live where we do. Many parents, myself included; volunteer to help coach, paint, clean the campus, work concessions, do anything we can to help our school. We are thankful for Wilcox Academy!
Our students consistently rank above average on standardized test. We are SACS accredited and a Blue Ribbon school. Our tuition is among the lowest in AISA. On a value basis I would put our school up against any other school.
I think WA is a great school. AR may not be perfect but my kids lived through it and guess what? They can read. They read more books than I ever thought about reading at their age. It would be great to have Art and Music at WA. Maybe a parent would like to volunteer to teach it. Our golf instructor volunteers his time, so do the assistant coaches in most all of the sports.
You will not find a better group of teachers at any school. Does every student make A's and B's - of course not. Does every student have the opportunity to learn - absolutely. We have been honored to be named a Blue Ribbon school and will continue to excel with support from our parents and effort from our students.
I believe that Wilcox needs some changes in leadership. I do realize that it is very hard to find qualified teachers in such a small town, but others do. I also agree that if the students are making bad grades under one teacher compared to other teachers, it needs to be addressed. It either means that this teacher can't teach the material or is making it too hard.
If the children were not 'graded' on the AR books, they might be more likely to try and read something more interesting that is above their level which might increase their reading ability. All children do not test well, particularly in elementary when they are still learning to pronounce words, etc. However, when they know they are graded, they will choose the easiest level available for their range. Art, Music or drama would be great...raise the tuition!
I am concerned about WA's steady deterioration. Grades K - 8th, are up to par. Beyond 8th grade, 'most' teachers have no zeal.
wilcox is the best school in the United states I rate schools and its the best school I've seen.
