My child has been verbally abused as well as physically abused at this school and the board of education allows it to go on as they do not proficiently investigate and/or assess the situations or the problems. They will give you the "run-around" for everything and every employee,
They get NOTHING done! They wait close to the end of the year to try and assist that something gets taken care of all the while also trying to turn you in for truancy knowing your child has learning disabilities or medical problems. My child was authorized by two different specialists from Children's Hospital to get a 504 plan in place for him. Now my child is paying severely struggling on the daily in as well as out of school but the icing on the cake is they failed him .
The teachers at Fyffe are bullies and they are not effective! They do not care if a child is being harmed in any way and they do not make sure all needs are met. You can forget a 504 plan or an IEP because they do not make sure that gets taken care of either even if it is authorized by a doctor.
I DO NOT at all recommend this school or district to anyone due to the fact my child has been here a year and has been constantly physically assaulted and verbally abused by his peers as well as the teachers. The board of education make petty excuses for its sorry as hell administration and piss poor faculty. Good luck, calling Dekalb County's Board of Education as they do not make sure all needs are up to par for the children attending this school and the bullying is extremely high and nothing gets done about it. I can only speak for myself but I am 110% over the moon to disclose my child WILL NOT be under any circumstances attending this nightmare of a school again next year. ITS ATROCIOUS ENOUGH WE ARE MOVING!
As a faculty member of Fyffe High School, I have seen the positive and negatives sides. The bottom line is that Fyffe is similar to a private school in that we know the students, and grow and change with them. Our school is well-protected by the local law enforcement. I do not feel threatened daily as others do. Students at this school are compassionate towards those with special needs. This school has a team spirit like no other, winners; however,in the classroom and the ball field! A vast majority of our students are winners in life to due their respect for others. All schools could use improvement; the main concern is a new high school building with a high school library and an auditorium with a tornado shelter for all students k-12 that is handicapped accessible. Funding needs to be provided for this. Our high school building is seventy six years old.
Fyffe School met 100% of goals set by the state and NCLB for the 2009-10 school year. We have a strong team of faculty, administrators and staff members. Fyffe was recognized by US News and World Report as one of Alabama's top 50 schools.
