Hazel Green is a good school with caring staff and teachers. My grandchildren go there and I am proud to cheer them on!!!

I think with the number of students that attend HGES, we need discipline in the hallways to keep down on accidents and disruptive noise levels. I believe the teachers here do an excellent job of teaching and our adminstrators are generally supportive of us. Also, we now have GEMS (Girls Engaged in Math and Science) and Destination Imagination as extracurricular activities. I have to agree with some others in that this in an elementary school. Traditionally, extracurricular activities are outside of the school environment at this age.

This school is so far advanced than some other elem.schools. My grandson went to Owens Cross Rds. for a short time, and it said it was like being in kindergarden. He is in the third grade and reading at fifth grade level.

My son attends this school. It reminds me of a private school. I think it's great that there are not only rules, but an administration that enforces those rules. I am a product of the Huntsville City Schools, where no one could guarantee my personal safety. I've seen girls pregnant at 13yr old, gang fights, and teachers carrying on affairs with students. HGE is not Russia for crying out loud. Let the teachers do their job. Parents should support by volunteering, and not by micromanaging. Can you imagine every parent on a field trip? Be reasonable folks.

P.E. Class Sizes are way too big. The safety of children is not first rank here. P.E. teachers do a great job with all they have to handle though.

My granddaughter is in the 4th grade at Hazel Green Elementary and she is a totally different child. She loves school, she likes all of her friends. Great place for kids.

My daughters attend this school. The teachers are awesome. The principal is the best. They are kind to the students and teach respect as well as the curriculum. I have nothing but praise for this school.

My son went to this school. The teachers do a wonderful job with what they have, but I have to agree with the others...parental involvement (especially on field trips) seems to be 'discouraged'. As a parent who strongly believes in actively participating in my children's education, this borders on unacceptable.

My grandchildren go to this school, and I am very involved with them. You are right, they discourage 'parent' involvement. I feel the teachers are great, they do an outstanding job. Admin. needs improvement, yes they are responsive to input and they do act quickly to correct situations. Security stills needs work, but we have come a long way from last year. The lunch menu needs redoing, it may be healthy for some but not for all. It is too tasteless, bland, and not enough variety. Some of the parent's behaviors and driving skills are dangerous for our children and other drivers. Rules are there for a reason, but some parents feel they are above them! One way means just that! Speeding is for the race cars not the parents picking up or dropping off children. We love our children, so do they-slow down. We teach by our actions-be aware!

There is a lack of parent volunteers at this school. Our clinic only has about 8 - 10 volunteers, not enough to keep it open at all times. This is unreal, considering we have about 900 children in this school. I agree that the school no longer has a warm atmosphere, but that will not stop my volunteer work. Even my mother-in-law drives from Madison twice weekly to work with kids in this school who need extra help. So, therefor, getting in the school is not that hard. Our children need our involvement in our schools. As far as extracurricular activities goes, this is only an elementary school, we have rec. centers and parks for this. This way everyone gets a chance to play and not have to try out for a sport, then not make it.
