Let me just say this if you are moving to the wonderful state of Alabama don't bring your children to this school. The teachers are not very good although we do have a few good ones. But not as many as we should. My child has never had a problem making friends. This school has been very hard for him and its been over a year. The school does absolutely NOTHING to help them other then give them a peer buddy to show them around the first day which was great to find your way but that was about it. I have talked to at least 5 other newcomers to Hoover and they have all said the same thing about their children. Oh and if you ever go to the school the front office staff is horrible and rude!!! They all need to give up there jobs and go find something else because they are miserable. I have been told by several parents that the grades before Bumpus are great and Hoover High is good and we just have to make it thru Bumpus....I think this is unacceptable and they need to step up to the rest of the schools in lots of ways!
The students at this school treat new students horribly! I've never in my life heard children say the things they have said to each other. It really makes you wonder how these kids are being raised by their parents or lack of parenting. The staff is lazy and rude. Teachers are also lazy and rude. The principal? What principal? Not involved.
My daughter changed to Bumpus due to moving. I really hate this school, they are lazy and act incompetent. I truly wish she could go back to Simmons where there was more structure and organization. Its just god awful. Examples kids can't call home if they forget something, if you bring something for your child they won't tell them. Says its their responsibility well if they couldn't call home, and you remembered whatever they left how the heck do they know its there? I've requested more individualized help for daughter and she hasn't received it. I feel bad for my daughter that she even has to go here. Parents spare your children and move wherever Simmons is zoned.
This school is the best! Everyone I know loves it. The teachers/principal are great and the students are very friendly. I love going to school here!
I absolutely can't wait to go here!! Everybody says its awesome I'm soo ready!! Ugh come on 2012-2013!
I am a teacher at this school and could teach at any school in town, but particularly love it here. Our principal could not be more supportive or present in the building, in the classrooms, at the lunchroom on the ball fields/court. Most of our students excel in the classroom and we are able to differentiate the curriculum to challenge and assist students when needed. Our facility is the cleanest I've ever seen and well-maintained. The teachers/staff are 'really' friends beyond the classroom and spend time bonding after 3:00 quite often. We are a real family here at Bumpus--with everybody lending a hand before being asked. This is a fantastic place to grow as a learner and be challenged to improve my instruction as a faculty member too. We have some of the finest technology capabilities in town, so what more could a teacher ask for?
I Love Bumpus middle school it's great! they have 4 halls for 6,7,8 grade! i'm in 6th grade, but i fell in love with the school on the very first day here! it's so fun!
I am amazed at the quality of staff, and how genuinely helpful they are to each other and the students. This is the MOST wonderful school to work at!
We started at Bumpus when it opened in 1999 and have had a child there ever since! Dr. Brown is an outstanding principal. Each of my children have received a quality education with teachers that truly care about students. There are many activities offered and the facilities are beautiful.
We moved from Riverchase to Bumpus. I couldn't believe the difference! My daughter went from hating school to loving it. Her peers act more like middle school students than grown women. Academically, the work is probably harder, but the teachers we've experienced are great motivators. I've not been to a ballgame that the principal wasn't at either. It has been a great experience for us.
This school is so awesome. I always enjoyed the friendly teachers and Dr. Brown (the principal) always trying to learn everyone's names. I think that the extracuricular activities were fun and hands-on too. :) I have to admit that I love this school.
I had twins (boy and girl) at Bumpus Middle School for 2 years until we moved to Cullman. Our experience at Bumpus was excellent! The children were well taught and had plenty of extracurricular activities (and we were in most of them) to participate in. But best of all, the teachers and administration were caring, fair, and for the most part, enthusiastic. Having been to another small town school system, count your blessings to be able to attend Bumpus. It is by far superior in every area that a school is held responsible.
Well, this is the second time I have had a student at Bumpus. Make take on the principal is that she does not act as if she is concerned about the student. The other day, I paid a visit to the school after school looking for my child. The principal was finishing up with bus duty getting ready to walk back into the school. I pulled up and asked her if she had seen my son. She, replied no, and said sorry and continue to walk into the school. She did not act concerned. Now days I think everybody even down to principals and school officials are in it just for the money no matter what school zone you are in and that is Hoover on down. I would probably have gotten a better response if my child was in a black school.
My child attended this school for three years and was the worst experience of his life. He had special needs that the principal was not willing to accommodate. My son spent much time with the counselors as the principal allowed other children to verbally abuse our child repeatedly with no intervention by the principal. Had to involve the board of education. The teachers are marginal with a coulple of good ones. The counselors were excellent as a buffer in helping my son cope with peer criticism the principal refused to address. I was unhappy with the pace at which classes moved (slow). Gifted children are not challenged academically at Bumpus. Very disappointing school.
Don't really know that the teachers are 100% the best in their fields. One teacher in particular is well known for the multitude of complaints about her teaching style and communication methods with the students as well as parents, and yet she continues to be allowed in the classroom. Other teachers seem somewhat lackadaisical in their methods and do not seem to want to hear parent concerns.
Bumpus is an excellent school with an excellent program. It has very loving and caring teachers that are willing to work with your child to assure they are functioning at their highest level. They strive for excellence. The students are provided with guidance to assure receiving a good education and balanced with many extra-curricular activities. As a parent, I can not ask for a better middle school.
