Holy Spirit School3

Holy Spirit employs some great educators. Specifically, the second grade teachers have the unparalleled ability to handle the students on a religious, emotional, and academic level; however, both third grade teachers lack the ability to take an interest in the students or teaching in general. We found them to be the least compassionate and caring teachers we're ever encountered. Another issue is the "quiet time" with the lights out, the children suffer through when one of the teacher had a headache (an often occurrence). Math and science at every grade level is dated, but especially so at the third grade level. (I was shocked to find out the children regularly watch out-dated VHS tapes.) The book fees are ridiculous, especially considering we never see these books. The principle cares, but her conflict resolution between the kids is biased. That said, the support staff is wonderful. The physical activity/outdoor play is sufficient. Religion is appropriate at every grade level. It is a family atmosphere for the most part. If HS strives to better the math and science curriculum (and both third grade teachers retire), it could eventually be one of the best schools in Tuscaloosa.
Our family has been a part of Holy Spirit school for many years. There is a serious focus on creating responsible citizens of our children. By balancing the academic, athletic, and spiritual components, Holy Spirit does prepare children to excel in the real world. Additionally, there is a strong parental involvement in the student and school activities. We would not send our children any other place!
The quality of education is lacking at Holy Spirit. Many teachers are not up to date on current educational standards and teaching strategies. The administration is very unlikely to try and solve any issues that may occur with your child. There is a lot of unfair partiality, too.
For our family, Holy Spirit is a great choice. The academic program is wonderful...we especially love the reading, writing and study skills that she has been taught...Math, History and English are very strong...Parental involvement is very high and it is really what makes this school work....The sports program is great too! We do lack on the art programs....I wish that we had an art teacher like we have a music teacher...the principal and all other faculty is very accessible...wonderful place!
