HCA is a wonderful place if Christian education is important to you. I have 3 children enrolled, and can say that each of my children are receiving personal education, not just a cookie cutter mold. One of my children is quite gifted, and rather than be bored doing only what is required, his teacher supplements his work, making it just challenging enough. My high school student has gained so much confidence, and participates in the basketball program as well. Each teacher will keep you informed and meet with you each quarter to fill you in on the progress your child is making. Pastor Reggie is loving, disciplined, and sets a Godly example. The teachers make personal sacrifices to teach at HCA and consider their role at the school as a calling to mission work, not just a job to pay the bills. This conviction is evident through their dedication to the job and prayers they speak over the children. I appreciate the standard of the 80% passing, as I know my children fully understand the material before they are given new information. As our future leaders, HCA is building confidence, character, and education within these students. Thank you HCA!!!
My children have attended this school. They have gained a great deal of self confidence and motivation to learn and do well. The result has been they have received scholarships to four year state colleges and done very well in their college courses. The style of learning prepared them for these courses. It is small, and therefore, the social aspect is different than in a larger school, but we make up for that through our family and our church. We have been very pleased with the overall program that HCA has offfered.
I have 3 children enrolled at HCA and I wouldnt move them unless we had to move out of the area. They have high standards that keep students accountable and responsible. I love the grading system because it guarantees that my children will have a complete understanding of the material and are learning to set high standards for themselves, while maintaining an attitude of doing things right the first time! These are lessons that need to be learned early in life and HCA is delivering that outside of the home and rounding out my children's upbringing.
My daughter has attended HCA for 5 years. She thrives there, the teachers and staff are like family! She is ahead in her knowledge compared to her friends and cousins. She does not like to be out of school, she loves it! She actually witnesses to other children as well as adults, she loves God and this school is perfect for her! The teachers are tough, but compassionate and loving. I would recommend this school to anyone that wants one on one teaching in a loving environment!
As a parent who has children that graduated from HCA and now presently in college, I give the school and staff an A+. My children learned how to apply themselves to accomplish high standards. The staff is excellent and very loving toward the students. Thank you HCA for all you have done.
I couldn't ask for a better place! Teachers are firm but loving, Pastor Reggie is a godly principal, is fair and loving when decision needs to be made Bible principles are taught in a daily basis,. I love that the school is not that big, every one know each other by name and last name, old students look after the youngest, staff members are friendly and supportive! My concerns have been addressed with discretion and professionalism. If you are searching for a school that teaches your child what is necessary to live a life with high standards, you just found it!!!
I went to this school in the 90's and it is horrible.the pastor is creepy.they totally meddle in your personal life.i too dropped out of this school because pastor reggie used to harass me all of the time, when i was 16!horrible horrible experience.also, the teacher who was there at the time,ms miller was absolutely awful mean.
Having read the reviews posted here, I have to say, I'm rather surprised at the uninformed views. My child has been at HCA for seven years. I speak with the teachers and visit my child occasionally in class. Yes, I have seen teachers eating in class. Why? Because they haven't taken time to have a break or a full lunch. Teachers at HCA are putting the students needs above their own, but they too need to eat. As to the school being strict, yes, they have high standards. Children are held accountable for their actions. As to the required 80% required to pass a test..... If you were going to a doctor, would you rather they had passed their tests with a 60%? Get a grip people! Let your children be held to a higher standard, expect the best from them. We all have choices to make and if you are happy with schools overlooking disrespect, cheating, laziness in academics, trashy language, smoking and drugs then please don't come here. On the other hand if you would like a school who supports Christian values, go check it out. They will work hand in hand with you.
This school has made me want to drop out. You're pretty much self taught and the teachers eat and talk on the phone way too much. Their kids are coming to visit and texting endlessly. The "pastor" is constantly meddeling in the students personal (unrelated to school) business. This school is a joke.
I am a Grandparant that has one child going to HCA, This school is simply the Best school all around. I will have a total of three 3 grand children going to HCA next school year . The Headmaster is The Most Caring school offical I have ever had any dealings with, all of the staff do a great job every day.
We had our son here for severl years. He is a social person and HCA all but shut him down. He became board but tried to stick withit ... but he became resent full of the school and us. Like some other reivews mentioned, some teachers literally "eat" and talk on the phone during instruction, very unprofessional. I think HCA heart in right place but this is a very bad school, very basic, 40% of the kids are rejects from Public School and have a lot of issues. HCA seems to take anyone. They don't make it fun! Just doyour pace and shutup. We sent our son to HCA to get away from Public School behaviours .... but at HCA, its all the same, kids and kids. However, HCA has less tolerance so kids get detention as somone else mentioned. This is here-say, but my son said that one of his friends had to go to a meeting with a bunch of students and parents and HCA let some parents berate their kids in front of others. My sons friend had to get on his knees and beg some girl because his mom was telling him to do so ... wow ... just disconcerting.
No offense to this school but it kinda stinks, there is no atual physical activity just freetime everyday, field day last year was terrible beacause there weas absolutley nothing to do, fieldtrips are ok but it"s not really..educational, the teachers take things to seriously, i hate that school and wouldn't recommend going there. if you want your children to have at least a little fun at school, just a little, dont go to hca, trust me, i"ve been there for a year and one quarter, it stinks... the teachers eat to much and talk on the phone to much, which really distracts us, some teachers are great though... the punishments are good you get a paddle for whatever and blah... acadamics are NOT challenging, you can be in highschool and be in 1st grade math, i know a person like that!!
All of my children have attended HCA. I have only positive comments to report. The administration and teachers are very loving and capable. This school is very structured, which is just what my children needed. It is also very balanced in teaching with a Christian emphasis. Parents are always welcome to be involved with all activities. I have recommended this school to many people and happy to do so.
There are many negative things you will find out about this school once you start going there. As a student of the high school class, I've found that HCA is stressful place to learn. You are pretty much self-taught and you won't always be able to get help in your schoolwork when you need it, especially in math and science. When it comes to taking tests, students are held at a ridiculously-high standard of 80% as a passing grade. If a student makes less than 80% on their test, they are required to repeat the lessons in the entire book (or computer unit)and take the test again. This is not a practical for students who are in effect teaching themselves. HCA over-disciplines their students. It is very easy to get a detention, usually for very petty reasons like forgetting to get something signed. Detention is literally an everyday thing for some students.
The school is wonderful when you would like to have a child who knows and understands the bible. The only concern with the school is there is no standardize testing done. It may appear to some as though there is a lack of education that is being experienced at this school. Since it is private, there are not that many sports such as football, etc at the school. They do have basketball. The parent involvment is great. They allow parents to interact at the school with the children.
