Even though the kids do learn alot at this school, there is no fun stuff. I know they are here to learn but having an art class wouldn't hurt, the kindergarten can't even get naps anymore and some of those kids need that. Also there are so many non english speaking students and yes they deserve to go to school but they need to be taught to speak like them also. It takes away from learning time for everyone else. We changed schools this year to a much smaller school and my two kids have enjoyed their new school so much. I do not miss Oxford at all, I miss some of the teachers but the principal is not the most friendly, in my opinion she is very business like and not personally involved very much.
OES is amazing! I have a 2nd grader and he loves his teacher! The level of instruction is high and parents know that safety and instruction are priority number 1. Mrs. Nelson knows every student by name (or so it seems). She is wonderful to work with and the teachers and other staff are awesome! If you are looking for a school that is going to actually going to educate your child, this is it!!
Awesome School! I have a second grader who has had trouble reading. After attending this schoo for the year she now can read. The teachers and staff worked hard at finding her weaknesses and helping her conquer them.
I think this school is an excellent place to attend. We were gonna move and we can't find another school that has as much saftey for the children. This is a #1 priority for our child. We would recommend any one to attend. Also to just visit if they were considering transferring their children. We are very pleased with every aspect of this school.
I'm a parent of a 2nd grader at OES. I really like her teacher and my daughter is learning a lot. I feel that our children would have a higher learning experience if they would place all non-speaking English or very little English speaking children in a class together - just until they can speak fluent English. It's hard for children who don't speak English (and rarely hear it at home) to understand what the teacher is teaching. It's not fair to our children that know English to have the teacher take extra (and sometimes a lot of extra) time with them.
Oxford Elem. is a great school. My child is in the 2nd grade, and she has learned so much this year. She has a wonderful teacher and principal. I only wish this school went further than 3rd grade so she can stay at this school.
I have two children enrolled. I have been very impressed by the teachers. However this year I have noticed a difference. I am still impressed by the teachers, but the school has grown quickly and the teachers are faced with too much divergence within the classroom. The teachers spend more than 50% of their time with challenging students (in terms of discipline, academics or non-english speaking.) My second grader has floated through the year working in centers where the non-problem students are teaching each other. The teacher has to get the other students to pass or behave, leaving no time to challenge the other small group of students. With the current leadership, I can not see this getting better in the near future and am investgating other school systems for next year. I can not afford my second grader to go another year with such a minimal challenge.
