Our son has boarded at ISS since 9th grade as we live in another state. After we developed a short list of schools we liked, we allowed him to choose among them. The culture is one of appreciation for intelligence, good teaching, and high standards. No school is perfect, but this one is far superior to anything within driving distance of our home. We're grateful for the opportunity to provide him with a quality education in the southeast--we thought with our expectations we'd have to send him north.
What a great learning environment!! With 350 diverse and beautiful acres, a superb faculty (most live on campus) with 75% holding advanced degrees, and a small, diverse, student body that is actively engaged in practicing democratic ideals and citizenship, Indian Springs students experience something that most only dream about. With students coming from around the world and many states, statistically Indian Springs ranks among the extreme best in the United States, with a college placement success that makes parents very, very proud. My son has been given real responsibilities in the Student Government, and he participates in all the sports he loves plus the great Choir. The school emphasizes time management skills, which helps with the heavy reading load. This year he is boarding, which really brings all that this wonderful school has to offer into focus. Amazing school. Amazing faculty. Amazing experience. Who says you need a mascot?
The mentality amoung the students is one of academic achievement. The kids compete (in a friendly way) for excellence, direction and college admission. 100% of ISS graduates go to college. Once in college, they find they are prepared. The #1 coment from students is that freshman year was 'easy.' ISS teaches kids to manage their time, which alows them to participate in extra-curricular activities, while maintaining a great GPA. I have 1 student who graduated from ISS 5 years ago, ataining an engeneering degree from Vanderbilt, remaining on the deans list, and is now pursueing an MBA. I have another child who is a Junior at ISS. He is presently focused on getting the best scores he can on the SAT tests -I never have to 'push' him. He is totally self-motivated. He feels that his choice for colleges is unlimited. As a parent, you can't ask for more than that in a High School!
Excellent leadership under new headmaster. The school should continue to maintain standard of exellence.
