I am a military child and just moved from here and I have to say I will miss my friends and teachers but I am glad to be gone from this Administration. They only focus on the bad and let the upperclassmen bully the underclassmen. They even tried to ban sophomores from pep rallys when seniors were body surfing and throwing things at the cheerleaders. They don't care for what they serve us. In one and a quarter years I have gotten food poisoning seven times. It's a good school, just needs better principals and administration.
Smiths station is a decent school. They offer a few AP courses and they teachers are fairly good. The administration is terrible. They're insanely focused on discipline and very arrogant. Students at SSHS pride themselves on their involvement with alcohol and tobacco and are very arrogant and hard to deal with. They're very, very unaccepting. Being a new kid at SSHS would be torture. Given the fact that most surrounding schools are just as bad or worse, SSHS would probably be your best option.
my dayghter has been going to smith station schools since first grade i loved everything about it while in earlier grades however as soon as your children get to high school it is all down hill the teachers along with the principal just stop communicating with parents and leave it all to chance that we are aware of what is going on at that school as you can probally tell i am glad my daughter is a senior and this our last year i do not recomend moving here for the sole purpose of the schools as i did some thirteen years ago it really is not worth it
The administration at the school is great. It is a good high school and I have always felt that my concerns were taken seriously. Most of the teachers here really seem to care about the kids acchievement and motovate them to do their best however there seem to be a lot who are in the wrong profession. The district really needs to listen to parents and children when concerns about come up about specific teachers and observe them so that this school can continue making changes that promote learning for each individual student.
I beleive Smiths High is an average school. Every school has problems, just like this one. My kids seem to enjoy it, although the teachers, and principals seem to not care.
If you want your child to get a great education and have a chance at either a sports scholarship or a academic scholarship this is the place to be.
Overall great school. Has an excellent music program and MCJROTC. Rules are for the most part are reasonable and well intentioned. Spanish and French classes are very well taught. Math, science, and history are taught well and have plenty of opportunities for tutoring if you need it.
Smith Station is one of the best schools I, myself, have ever been to. I have been to about 20 schools in addition to 4 high schools. I would have loved to have graduated from there. But it is really a good school & a community as well. They have an excellent sports program as well as drama, choir and english department. It is really a great school. -Megan Ballou
I am a student at SSHS. This school is great except the teachers expect way to much from the students. There are way to many test & homework assignments.
The school is moving forward with the new principal that has been put in place. The campus is cleaner and the students are receiving a lot of attention. The principal is hands on and knows a lot of students from here previous job. Smiths Station High school was already a good school and will be moving to the next level in the next couple of years. I have two sons at the school and would recommend the school to any one that cares about their childrens education and welfare.
I have one daughter currently attending and one who already graduated from SSHS. They both very much enjoy(ed) the school and I personally believe the teachers helped them excel in areas they never would have explored on their own.
I am a student at this school. But over all the best class that kids should take is MCJROTC because that is one of the classes that I enjoyed the most. You are not just sitting in the class for a hour and a half. But I really like Smiths Station High School! Amber Layne Class of 2008
i am a student at this school. i can honestly say that there are some good times to be had but the rules are too strict and too many. i see no reason to ban hats in school unless they are too eccentric some of the teachers are just awful and have no reason to teach kids. many of our teachers are only teaching for the money that is wrong. the best part of this school is really the JROTC because kids will get more out of this class than any other class in the school. they will learn more than just books. i encourage everyone to give their kids a chance to have ROTC
Knowledgeable, concerned staff that are willing to involve the whole family in the appropriate educational goals.
