This is a new school (a few yrs old), so they are still trying things out to make it the best school it can be! The principal is awesome!! He is not only just a principal but also a parent! His kids go to this school also. He is always looking to improve the school, and wants the kids to enjoy coming to school and learning. He is trying new programs this year because alot of kids who tried out for sports teams didn't make it, and wanted the kids to have other alternatives, and not feel left out of any clubs or programs! He is striving for better education! He just put alot of money he recieved from grants(?) that he put into a county wide program for the kids to get laptops because their books are outdated. And yes they do have special ed and gifted kids at this school and they are proud of the fact that they can offer education for those kids! These kids come from as far away as Foley to attend this school. This is the best middle school in our county for sure!!
I have had a lot of experience with Spanish Fort Middle School, and while some teachers foster love of learning, some don't have control over their class rooms. Administration seems to not be able to decide whether they're going to be tough on kids or let them run the place. "Rewards" for "good" kids are ill-done and are really havens for "bad" kids. Fighting is not always punished, at least not until too late. There are some challenges in the academic program, but the classes are a mix of special ed and gifted. Athletes occasionally get special treatment. Anyway, its an ok school, but not the best.
This school just opened a few years ago. The principal seems to be making this school the best it can be, trying new ideas to make sure the children have a great learning experience and enjoy going to school.
