As a student who also attended for many years, I am glad to say I graduated from The Capitol School. I got admitted to Georgetown and earned more than 20 college credits while I was still in high school through the Dual Enrollment program. i absolutely loved it! As for the best teachers, Mrs. Hill, the best Kindergarden teacher, is still here; Dr. Rodgers, great history teacher ever, is still here, and Mr. Blumthal makes science so much fun! I cannot recommend this school enough!

As a student (who went there for many painful years, including high school), I feel like I have achieved some form of PSTD from attending this school. I feel like all these other reviews are purely fictional. Too much drama, too much money. The best teachers always left too soon because of budget cuts or administrative disagreements. It just wasn't worth it. I definitely would never put my child in my position. It's an experience you'll remember (but for all the wrong reasons).

I love it that my children are learning in such a caring and thoughtful environment. Race (in any use of the term) is a four letter word. My kids love to go to school and actually are upset when I come to pick them up even though it is 5:00 pm and they have been there since 7:30 am. The teachers are great and I don't have to wonder what is going on in the classroom because I can drop in at any time. Parents are also encouraged to participate in their child's education. The extracurricular activites are wonderful too. The kids have lots of fun while learning, using a variety of methods. The classes are small enough so the children get a lot of extra attention and, although No Child Is Left Behind, every child can also get ahead!

They create a loving environment and fosters the desire to learn, and not just about specific subjects, but also how to build character and become future pillars of society

The Capitol School provides such a warm, loving and individual learning environment. Children in the preschool are exposed to foreign languages, art and music on a daily basis, while learning essential skills for their development. The Capitol School provides great opportunity for children to develop into well-balanced people. Every fun activity has a specific learning purpose. What a wonderful school to have access to here in Tuscaloosa!

Where else do kids learn up to 5 foreign languages painlessly as early as preschool? They learn math and science by playing, and appreciate other cultures as naturally as they make friends from all around the globe. This is truly a school which nurtures well-balanced citizens for a global world.

If you were to visit The Capitol School, you'd likely hear a classroom of students practicing the pronunciation of Spanish nouns. In another building you might notice a young man reviewing college biology notes on his laptop. Glance out the window and you might see the soccer team warming up for a match. Just a typical school day. Except, of course, those Spanish students are 3-year-olds, the young man studying college biology is a high school sophomore, and the soccer coach is speaking in German. In 1993, Dr. Rountree realized her dream when she opened The Capitol School, and there is nothing typical about it. It is a Multiple Intelligence School based on the work of Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard University. It has received accolades as a model school in a recent issue of the prestigious American Educational Research Journal and heralded as one of Edutopia magazines's' Daring Dozen of 2006,' an honor given to those 'who are reshaping the future of education.'

The Capitol School provides a safe, nurturing, positive environment in which all types of children are encouraged to do their best. They are truly happy to be at school and spend their time learning. The outstanding faculty and staff care about every child and work hard to make certain no one is left behind. In addition to a strong basic curriculum that includes math, reading, and writing, the students play outside everyday, study languages (German and Spanish, with opportunities to learn other languages such as French and Japanese), and have regular (at least weekly) art and music classes (with the opportunity to study instruments such as piano and violin). Also, the science program is strong--the elementary classes have extensive experience with the scientific method, dissection, earth science, and other topics that enhance their understanding of the world in which they are learning to fully participate and to make a positive contribution. The Capitol School is a very special place. The students are extremely fortunate to be in this environment.
