While overall I am more than pleased with the quality of my child's teachers, one 6th grade teacher was definitely a weak-link. Poor use of instructional time and lack of concern for students mars what would otherwise be a stellar academic faculty. Complaints of many parents have been ignored.
Liberty Park Elementary: The parent involvement is stellar as are the teachers and caring staff at this sweet school. The only thing lacking is the non-existent language program. The system pulled Spanish last year, even though all top research shows that the younger the child, the easier it is to learn a language. There is money for new sports fields and athletics, but none for a foreign language program.
I have had two students complete grades 6-8 at LPMS and looking forward to enrolling my third. Academics are first rate. Previous poster is clearly uninformed about the Vestavia school system with her allegation there are no honors classes. Math is tracked into Honors and this follows students into the High School, as it does at Pizitz. Enrichment classes are provided for 6th and 7th G/T students. Sports & extra-curriculars are woefully inadequate, but this is a smaller, newer school. Students are generally well-behaved . Discipline problems are dealt with quickly and firmly. My HS students are doing just fine in all Honors and AP classes at VHHS with the foundation laid for them at LPMS.
The school is good, but lacks in Academics; there are not Honors classes, or AP classes. I feel the school is still too young, therefore it's still not fully develop in many areas. PTO is strong, and so is the parent involvement, but like I said at the beginning the school lacks in Academics. I have one child here, but will not put my other child in this school, unless it becomes complete in many areas as a whole. I will write another review towards the end of the school year.
