Our daughter started at Delta the second half of 1st grade and is currently in 3rd grade. Her teachers that I have chosen have been wonderful and very supportive. The school is very active with inviting parents to special events etc. There is a lot of prizes given out which can be good as well as bad when it is candy. In 3rd grade they learn to play the recorder and each class has music once a week, library once a week and laptops are brought to the classrooms for lab. Each classroom has at least two desktop computers. The school is new and 2005 was the first year the school was open. Lunch menu leaves some things to be desired as it is very repetitive. Some lunch aids are not the nicest and need to be dealt with. There is a preschool for speech and hearing etc.

Good schools overall but you need to make your presence known with administrators and teachers to get the most out of them. Teachers seem to really care about the students.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Alaska used the Standards Based Assessment (SBA) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading, math and writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 10 in science. The SBA is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Alaska. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
