I like how DZ has orchestra and band, and requires 6th graders to take one music exploratory. I also like the 4 house structure of the core classes. Each house has a bit different style, which is introduced to 5th grader's parents. The houses range in how structured they are, or how project oriented they are. Some work better for parents who want a lot of parent feedback, and some whose children are more self motivated. 2 houses have ROPES projects for 8th graders, and one house has a science fair for all their students each year. The houses are nice because the child has the same teachers for at least 7th and 8th grade, and those teachers get to know the kids. It gives more time to solve behavior and academic problems before a meltdown. The teachers I know are all good, and seem to enjoy their profession.
