Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I give AFHS a good four stars just because its not the best neighborhood also it is not maintained as it should be, I do belive on being a better school on my personal expirence they should put grass in the dirt areas , and upgrade on new bathrooms and just upgrade in genral . I am a current sophmore. But my overall all expirenve is 5 stars with teachers and faculty and staff when im at agua i feel i could be myself and not be afraid and everybody is family there . Deffinantly should lett your child go there cause I would feel lonely if I didnt have AFHS . Alot of people says its "Ghetto" but which is complete opposite its just not put in a very good location. no dont be affraid lol everyone is friendly ... GOO OWLLSSS CLASS OF 2015 !!!!!!!! SOPHHMOOORRREESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

We'll have two daughters attending Agua Fria next year and couldn't be happier. The teachers are helpful and supportive. The student body is very supportive of each other, which has a feeling of family, or at least a close knit community. The motto is "Honor first. Win or lose." and they walk the walk the walk at Agua Fria.

This is an awesome school. I think most people are juding afhs by the area it is located. My son is a senior and I hope he has the kind of instructors in college that he had at afhs. They are very caring and very interested in the students welfare. I almost hate to see my son leave here. The staff here are so kind and helpful. Always get immediate reply whenever I send emails

I am a present senior here at AFHS and in reading these ratings I agree with some! I think that the AFJROTC program is the one and only thing here that deserves 5 stars! The bathrooms on campus are often closed for unnecessary reasons or out of order. Some dont even have doors. More times than not while walking down the hallways and past the bathrooms you can get contact high. Everybody says that all the money goes to the athletics but i am an athlete and we hardly have any money. The teachers are good for the most part. The Chief and Col. are really educated, and Haley is the best!!!

This is my third year at AF and it is amazing school. The administration is very involved along with the teachers, and in return students are motivated to participate in extracurricular activities and academics. A student can feel safe in this friendly environment where there are hardly divisions amongst students. This school as a history of striving for the best. The only improvement that could be helpful is funding school equipment like Verrado (Agua Fria District), because all Verrado has is expensive equipment. Despite the fact Agua Fria actually deserves it through its seniority, achievement, high number of students and persistence towards academics. The district office may make poor choices as to how administrate the money, even then Agua Fria can cope with anything and always rises on the top.

This school has it's problems, more then a few of those are almost entirely in the hands of the parents. People can blame who ever they want for the institution's short comings, but in the end it is up to the student to learn. I am tired of schools that hold students hands through high school. I like many before me have achieved so much at Agua Fria, and those who do not can only blame themselves. I have learned more than academics at Agua Fria, i have lived through what it takes to succeed in the real world. Not some fantasy that we try to create.

the campus is great!! they have updated the bathrooms and everything else, if you were to see the campus you would know that time was put into it! the school is amazing, yeah maybe some of the funds go to athletics but they fiixed that and the teachers love to help the students, they want everyone to become successful, my time there was the most best experience. i am sad that i can not graduate with my class because i have moved. but i am dedicated to my owls and i am not attending any other school, i choose online rather than another public high school. i am an agua fria owl class of 2009 and always will be and i am proud to say that

I went to Agua Fria for 3 years. My sophomore year i was in texas and couldn't wait to get back. The teachers here are amazing. The ROTC program rocks. I have been to a couple high schools and this is the one i felt at home at. Teachers really do care about their students, or at least that is how i felt. I think they could use more funding for things like a home coming parade. Considering we are the oldest and we definitely deserve one more than Verrado (who's coming home for them?!?!?) But i loved my experience at Agua Fria. and Mrs. Velasquez (sp?) Was an amazing help in preparation for financially getting ready for college. I am proud to say I went to AF Class of 2008!

I have a child who is entering their third year at this school, and both my child and I have been saddened by its steady decline. If your child wants to learn a language other than Spanish or German, you'll have to find another school. If your child has creative interests, make sure the class hasn't been cancelled due to lack of funding. My feeling is that too much funding is being funneled into athletics and long overdue campus improvements and not enough into academics. The students bathrooms are often closed for repairs that never seem to come. AF feels like the red-headed stepchild of the district, unloved and underfunded.

I have a child attending this school for the first time and to be honest to this point I am a bit disaapointed. Intitally we were excited and thought sure it is in a older part of town and seems as if district forgot that taxpayers live in this area too. No upgrades have been done to this campus other than the new gym, from what I've been told by current students the restroom & athletic facilities are not in the best condition. This makes me upset as a parent and taxpayer as I see that Millennium, Desert Edge and Verrado seem to be getting the better half of funding for structure improvements. How can you expect kids to take pride in their campus if the district doesn't seem to support the idea of renovating old structures to keep them equal to their sister schools in the district.

I recently graduated from this school (2006) and have gone on to attend Seattle University. Being a part of the third generation of my family that have gone to Agua Fria, I feel that attending this school has prepared me for the difficulty of college. The teachers were (and still are) very supportive and the College and Career center is fabulous! I hope that my future children will attend this school with pride, just as I did.

This is school is by far a great school. The teachers are great and make you feel comfortable also make sure you're learning. The school may not be in a high class part of town but that has nothing to do witht he school. There is no gang problems at all, and there is so much diversity throughout the school it is awesome. There aren't any clique problems and it's easy to fit in here. Plus, the test scores have recently been raising.

I attended and graduated from Agua Fria High School, Class of 2002 and I know that the teachers there are excellent. The atmosphere that the school provides is definitely superior to most others. I believe that because of the positive atmosphere created mainly by the teachers in the classrooms, the student body carried that positive enthusiasm outside the classrooms and we were able to be a strong student body and were able to get along with one another very well. The staff at Agua Fria was great and I have so many teachers there that I am indeed, very thankful that I was able to participate and learn from them. The Counselors and office staff were very friendly and were always there for an assistance. I would definitely, if I had children, enroll them with Agua Fria High School.

When I moved to Avondale I was assured that my kids would not have to go to Agua Fria, the zoning changed and guess what? The teachers are ok, but concentrate way too much on what the kids are wearing rather than how they are acting (I.E. cussing, gang activity, physical threats, ect.) While my kids are no angels, they are still good, loving kids that deserve to feel safe while in school. There is a full time officer on the campus, I think there should be 2 or 3. Clearly, not enough time is spent with the 'less fortunate' kids. The teachers should be encouraging the students to act like responsible and kind people, not like hardened criminals.

My son is a Junior at Agua Fria HS. We have been very pleased with the education he has been provided there. He is an excellent student and he has had many opportunities to take Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes at Agua Fria HS.

My 10th grade honor student moved here from Western Illinois in the middle of the school year. After the first week in honor's programs in this school, he told me his class was learning the same lessons he learned in 8th grade. My daughter, though smart, worked hard for her As and Bs. Upon arrival here and entering the 6th grade, she found she didn't have to work at all to earn her straight As. The schools here are seriously lacking. The schools don't necessarily need more money, unless used to pay teachers. The schools need a curriculum that is at least on par with the rest of the country and the administrators and public need the fortitude to enforce it. The 'leave no one behind' concept fails to teach children to be responsible for their behavior and future. Failure is good so long as the child learns to build upon the experience.

My son graduated from Agua Fria in 2002 and I was very pleased with the teachers and the administration. This is a school where academics are important and sports are second and I like that. He received a quality education in his AP classes and in his core classes. The administration is fair and the discipline at this school is superior. I live outside the Agua Fria district, but I asked for a variance in order for my son to go to Agua fria. I would highly recommend Agua Fria for its strive to make Agua Fria excellent in academics.

This school appears to be way behind in the way of child safety and parent notifications. The school doesn't prevent Non-students from gaining access to the campus nd does nothing to prevent registered students from leaving the campus during class hours. This leaves children exposes to untold dangers. The discipline and Security need to be improved!

Good Teacher Involvement, and discipline well maintained at AFHS. Test Scores are consistently the highest in the West Valley.
