A sound building is built with a solid framework. AAEC Estrella Mountain is just the opposite--it is built on sand. From the top, a ferocious, dictatorial suiperintendent, to the middle, a flaky, go with the wind ethics type of principal, to the students, a bunch of enabled teens who can't stand on their own, make for an unsafe framework. But what really puts this clown of a school in the unsafe zone is the way teachers are treated--like a dime a dozen, expendable, not appreciated, thrown away like garbage. That is the real test of an unsafe structure.
My daughter is a freshman here and we LOVE the atmosphere at this school! The students have an amazing opportunity to earn college credits while in high school! The teachers are wonderful!
Don't let the name fool you. It's not all about Agriculture and horses. They have an excellent curriculum and the teachers really expect a lot out of the kids. Our child is thriving there! The only downside that I see to this school is the lack of the regular "high school experience". That being sports and band and chorus and other activities like that. Other than that, it has been a wonderful experience for my child, and I highly recommend it.
My daughter just finished her freshman year here at AAEC - Estrella. She is maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and is feeling very proud and accomplished. She loves her teachers, and comments frequently on how the kids are all so well behaved, and she loves that all of the kids seem to be college bound. We have found the school administration to be not only acommodating, but actively involved and passionate about ensuring the success of every child. We have had such a great experience this year, that my younger daughter will be attending this coming fall as well.
As an educator of over fifteen years, I have been a part of large public schools and average sized middle schools and AAEC is head and shoulders above them. Is it perfect? Of course not, perfection doesn't exist and every school has flaws, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. Our students are exposed to a college environment but they must earn the right to take these classes. Nothing is given to them, in terms of grades or opportunities. They must prove their worth repeatedly for the chance to earn college credits. As a whole the atmosphere is positive and constructive with top educators in their respective field providing unique enrichment opportunities for the students. It is challenging and the students who accept these tasks will leave feeling more confident about their academic abilities and about the transition to the collegiate environment. The school lives up to its billing by investing in the students.
What an amazing opportunity. Last year, in only their second year of existence, they had a student graduate with an Associates Degree from Estrella Mountain Community College, a week before she graduated with her high school diploma! I wish these opportunities were available when I was in school.
AAEC is a school with a student first mentality. Students are able to work toward an Associates Degree while obtaining their high school degree! They have high test scores but above that they encourage students to grow and mature as individuals. They have an active and well put together FFA program which promotes students potential for Premier Leadership, Personal Growth, and Career Success through agricultural education. They also have many other student organizations to encourage students become well rounded citizens in our society.
We moved to AAEC Estrella Mountain when my daughter started 10th grade, I thought the school we moved from was great until I learned how wonderful AAEC is. There is such a strong feeling of family there. All the teachers have encouraged my daughter to strive for nothing but the best; she will end up with an associate degree in science this year.
This is a great school for students who are committed to success and seek a college prep environment. Because it is a small school, students have the opportunity to really know their teachers (and vice versa), receive the help/guidance they need, and be part of an educational community.
As a student of AAEC Estrella I couldn't have asked for a better school, or for better teachers. This school gives you nothing but motivation and the staff actually cares for their students. The teachers know exactly what they are teaching and make sure that students know that they are there to help them in anyway possible. I have been in other schools and AAEC is the only one where I felt respected by all staff and students. Making AAEC your school would be the best decision that you could make for your child or for yourself.
The students at AAEC- Estrella Mtn were focused, goal oriented, and a real pleasure to teach. When I asked them to do something, they never argued, I never had to ask twice, and they went right to work. Truly an enjoyable experience. Nice classrooms and a fun staff to work with. The AIMS scores were the highest of any school I have ever taught at. The coercion with the Community College makes for an amazing opportunity for the students. Imagine being able to get an Associates Degree while graduating from high school.
AAEC provides motivated students a chance to earn a college Associates Degree while still in High School! I have worked at AAEC for 3 years now and in that time have seen over 100 students graduate with their Associates! What an amazing opportunity, saving parents thousands of dollars! I wish this type of program existed when I was in school!
If you are looking for a safe school that will treat your children with respect, AAEC is the answer. They staff teacher with respect and kindness and expects the same in return. This is the premier college preparatory high school in the west valley. Check them out, you will not regret your decision to allow your child to attend this school.
Out of the three high schools that I attended, AAEC was the worst. The teachers were not respectful, the school wasn t organized, and the teachers did not know how to teach. If you re a parent and you re reading this, have the decency to send your child to school where the teachers care about them and don t humiliate them and treat them like trash. If you re a student looking for a school, do not choose AAEC unless you enjoy being yelled at, embarrassed, and lied to. Choosing AAEC would be one of the worst decisions you have made.
