Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Unless your child is in the CATS program there is not too much that differentiates this school from any other. Our teachers ARE wonderful and we have nothing but admiration for their dedication to our children. What is missing is better communication from leadership about school happenings; parents shouldn't have to subscribe to the school's PTO Facebook page in order to stay informed. Despite subscribing to School Wires we feel routinely left out of the loop. Also, with the disparity in income levels among the students the campus would benefit from an Anti-Bullying Campaign. When my children have had issues they refuse to complain because both the parties, no matter how one-sided the bullying is, are punished. Popular (ie. clique-y) kids are encouraged while shy kids are receiving the message that they shouldn't even bother speaking out. This is discouraging as a parent trying to raise kind-hearted, fair-minded children in this environment.

I agree with other parents concern about students with special needs. Principal, teacher and special needs counselor shows total disregard for students with special needs. They are just one additional headache for them. If you go and talk to them, they will politely ask you to go to another school rather than taking care of you. There is too much bullying. Teachers and administrators don't like students from other races. That is why you will see very few students of other races. My advice is to go to other schools if this is your home school.

I am pleased that my children attend this school. The princiapl, Mrs. Weed is the best princiapl, so interactive and outside talking with parents, meeting the kids to make sure they have good days. I honestly am so glad I switched my kids from Noah Webster Basic School where the principal never called anyone back and never was seen. Jacobson has been a blessing to my children and as a parent I am so happy!!!

This has been my son's first year at Jacobson and I could not have been more pleased. He's gifted with fairly severe ADHD. Other school districts had wanted to put him in a special needs classroom. Only Chandler agreed with us that he should be put in the gifted program where he would be challenged academically and socially. Jacobson has given him the support he needed to succeed in the gifted program. They have been responsive to all our concerns and usually were way ahead of us. I don't think we could have had a better experience. The teachers and resource teacher have been phenomenal.

We have a lot of issues with this school. The principle does know the children's names, but that is just for show. She seems nice at first, but after you hear her talk, you can see how fake she is. She couldn't care less about our concerns & was trying to force our child into one of the "four buckets" (their words for special needs classes) due to one simple need. They show no respect for children that are not white or those who have some challenges. One of the special needs "bucket" was labeled "the wheelchair class" . I personally don't have a child that requires a wheelchair, but the very thought of the principle and some of the staff labeling children like that is very offensive. Their main focus is to have every kid memorize what they need to know for the AIMS test and to look good on paper. We are white, but I have seen the horrible looks they give to people of mixed races or different color. That is not the environment we want our child in.

This school is amazing! After having my daughters at a private school for several years, I can honestly say the academics at Jacobson are more challenging and well rounded. The teachers really care about the students and the principal knows every student by name. My oldest daughter was in the advanced program and my youngest daughter needed speech therapy, both were easy to access and valuable. I LOVE this school and feel very fortunate that my children have an opportunity to attend a great school right in our own neighborhood.

We have our two daughters at this school. We have lived in England,, Ireland and USA three states (NM, Oregon and now AZ). This is by far the best school my kids have ever attended their opinion !! and they are very happy and contented. Reading these reviews I had to double check at the top of the page that this was my childrens school I had logged into. As for bulling issue my oldest daughter has told me she has never seen any during her time at this school. We could not be more pleased with this school, the teachers and Principal are excellent and my kids grades have increased while here.

This school becomes more of a joke, day after day. The school/district now thinks they have the power to tell me what music class my daughter will take. Excuse me, you are NOT my attorney, you are NOT a court of law nor are you the decision maker in my household. The administration is a joke and talks out both sides of their mouth.

Jacobson is a wonderful school! The teachers love to teach. My children have developed a great love of learning. I believe their teachers at Jacobson have had a great influence over this. The teachers at Jacobson really care about their students and help them reach their fullest potential. I believe my children are getting a phenomenal education. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to send my children to Jacobson.

Excellent School. Great teachers, parents, and administrators. My child has been at this school since kindergarten and is moving on to junior high in the honors program. Never any issues with security or gangs. Many kids walk to school, nice neighborhood. We are lucky to have had the opportunity to have been in this district and attend this school, lots of parent volunteers and involvement. Highly recommended school.

I agree with previous post in regard to the wealthy demography of the neighborhood. That is reason it what made Jacobson a racist school itself.Majority of the guardians as well as teachers hold a false attitude of superiority in terms of race, color and class and they are nakedly exposed. So far the merit of the teachers and quality of education are concerned this school is falling behind to many of the district schools in Chandler. That is why also I like previous post for showing the courage not to mention that truth.Bulling is a common practice just due to the background of the students. That is why you will see almost zero presence of non-white students who are in most cases are far superior in merit and attitude and compose a lion's share in district's overall high-grade performance We are from Asian origin. My kids were here for two years and had enough of bashing. I wish this school should come out of their current stance and blend to the actual dynamics of what making Chandler as one of the academically and socially rich cosmopolitan in the state. Otherwise guardians will send their kids to an island that floats itself and to watch free fashion show of its snob teachers.

My child has been unhappy attending this school. Her teachers have used humiliation and negative consequence to control student behavior The academic standards are average. If a student is not in the CATS class room (gifted self-contained), there is no enrichment program available to reach the above-average child. There has been a change in principals. The latest principal is unwilling or unaware of improvements needed to make this school a better place to learn.

Our son has autism and has been in the Chandler schools since preschool. We've always had excellent support and he's received a great education. This has been our first year at Jacobson and I've been very disappointed when I compare it to the other Chandler schools he's attended. A great deal of the staff - teachers, principal and counselors - seem disconnected and uncaring. The one shining star is the resource teacher, who is fantastic. It's been a discouraging year and we will be looking elsewhere next year.

Jacobson staff is good and for the most part my children's education has been sufficiant. However, do not expect any substantial support or assistance from the Dean of Students for just consequences for inappropriate behavior.

I am deeply conflicted about writing a bad review about this school. My older child has been going there for many years and has been both very happy and successful there. Unfortunately, it is no longer the case. When we had issues with my younger son regarding his teacher we expected to solve these issues easily. Sadly, the principal did not help but actually showed a total disregard for our concerns. What really upset us the most was the fact that she did not help but worsened the situation. We expected much more professionalism and effort from the leader of this otherwise great school!

My daughter is in 3rd grade. She has the best teacher.Even compare to the other school in Chandler where she was before. We find the teachers to be supportive and creative with individual situations to help maximize learning. And I totally disagree about the homework pressure. My daughter looks more motivated, focused and active.

I can't say enough about the great teachers, but, so far, I'm not excited about the new principal. The school seemed very welcoming to parents last year. The tone is much more adversarial this year and I'm so disappointed. Hopefully things inprove with time.

We moved in the middle of the year so my daughter was new to this school in February and the school placed her into a classroom where the teacher was leaving for maturity a week after she started. My daughter had a very hard time with this move and then the school put her in a unstable classroom. And I rarely saw homework but only for spelling words and to read one story over and over till the next week came. The principal does not know how to prepare when he starts new events. Also this school gates are constantly open for predator's to come in while kids walk around randomly in the courtyard. I am not at all happy with this school, and to tell you the truth I have not a clue as to how they are getting rated so high. But hopefully this next principal will be better!

The new pricipal is the first in the last 5-7 years. Jacobson teaches to aims to the extent is is madated by the state of Arizona. As the kids get older they get plenty of hands on learrning, geology units and then going to Karchner Caverns (3rd gd), studying state histroy and going to the capital (4th gd), science camp (5th gd) and study renaissance history and culture and going to renaissance fair and holding their own renaissance village at school. I am thrilled my children go to this school. Parent involvement is strong, but may vary according to classroom. My kids are maturing and learning. Jacobson offers, tuturing, clubs etc.

All three of my daughters love Anna Marie Jacobson School. But the only thing I don't like it that there is no incentive to go to school. No awards to the kids on coming to school on time or not missing school. They need to have a lot more incentives for the kids to get motivated to do good in school. Now days not all kids want to go to school. Also, I think that the volunteers should me honored more. Not just through the class but in front of the whole school so they know the parents really care. Also, it is hard for my family to have to come up with all the money for the extra stuff that the school has to offer. Like field trips, shirts, and etc. I just think the children need to get more incentives for the good work they all do.

My son has been at Jacobson since kindergarten. He loves it and we love it. I have not met a teacher I don't like and the principal is the best I have ever seen. It has a huge parent base that is positively involved in the school. There are no sideline complainers here. If a parent doesn't like something they jump in and help make it better. It is awesome. I think my son has the best 2nd grade teacher in AZ. She is amazing with the kids. Pushes them to achieve their potential while keeping the learning environment positive and fun. Just can't say enough about Jacobson and it's entire staff from lunch room to the teachers/ principal to the crossing guards. Fun, positive professionals that love their job!

I can not say enough great things about Jacobson! My two boys love their teachers. My first grade son recently underwent a bone marrow transplant and the out pouring of concern and support from the entire school has been amazing. Mr. Doyle is one amazing man and he and his staff are to be commended on the outstanding jobs they do.

We relocated here from California and we were a bit nervous about our sons transition into a new school. We absolutely cannot say how wonderful the transition has been and how the school is a wonderful environment and the faculty are wonderful. Mrs. Barro welcomed my son to her class making him feel right at home!
