This is our first year at BBS entering in at Kindergarten. So far we have been very impressed with my child's teacher and full time aide. Both are extremely competent, trustworthy, organized and wonderful teachers! Their curriculum is fun and innovative. We love that he is getting Spanish, PE, Music twice a week plus Art and Computers once a week. I would say the only downfall is not having a multi-purpose room that could be used as a lunch room/indoor gym area - I think this would be extremely helpful for all the hot days at the beginning of the year.
I feel obligated to give a review here after seeing some of the bad reviews. I have two kids attending BBS now, one in 3rd one in K. We are very happy with the school. There were some bad reviews recently about the school management and teachers turnover. Actually it was something we worried also. We actually enrolled our younger kid in a highly rated public school at the beginning of the semester due to the concern. But after three weeks we were really disappointed and we decided to transfer our younger kid back to BBS. Luckily enough for us, there is a open spot. We could not be happier after the transfer. The curriculum is so much more fun, the kid is much happier and not tired, the homework is not tedious and boring at all and the kid loves to do it. And equally important to us, we can be very involved but not isolated like the other school. We are very satisfied with both of our kids teachers. They are very devoted and highly responsible. Don't let some of the reviews scare you. The management may have its problem and could be improved. But the teachers are the best you can find.
Both my kids are in BBS now and we are very satisfied. The curriculum is rigorous and structural but also very fun! They also have monthly book report projects and lots of hands-on work in class. I don't want my kids to do lots of drilling and repetitive exercise at this young age. As they are getting older, I do see they get more homework but still in a reasonable amount. Another highlight is that they have very good specials like Spanish and Art and computer lab. We also like the after school programs. They have art, clay, choir, and drama etc. The music teacher is great! Even though there are some turnovers, most of the experienced teachers still stay. Teachers are approachable and parents are very involved. I feel the whole school is like a big family. Another highlight is each class has a principle teacher and full time teaching aid and class size is not as big as public school. Each kid will get sufficient attention. Teachers are devoted and passionate. I feel so secure every morning when I drop off my kids at school seeing them going to school with smiling faces and coming back home happily in the afternoon.
I have an issue with they July 17 review. Schools will always have turnover both with staff and admin. The teachers that are currently teaching at BBS are great teachers. From what I understand, each grade level has an experienced team leader, who in turn helps plan the curriculum for that grade based on a curriculum schedule. With regards to the money driven comments, it is a Charter school, typically they do need to do fundraisers to support various school related items such as: staffing school with a full time aide in every room, adding on to current building, pay for teachers, items for the classroom, and many other things. I have been at parent at BBS since my daughters were in pre-school. I have never been employed by the school. However, I have given my much of my time to volunteering with my daughters teachers/classrooms in any capacity i was needed. I chose BBS over 7 years ago, until this year it was the only school my children had ever attended. My girls have an incredible love for school, I know that the direct result of the foundation they got from BBS. I will be forever grateful to this school and for its teachers.
This is my son's 5th year and I don't know how long the administrator has been there but it's been for a while. 3 out of 5 my son's teachers have been there 15 plus years. The one that had only been there one year was the best ever, eventually became the principal, and had sent all her highly intelligent children there. Nothing but positive experiences!
I have been sending my child to BBS for years, until now. The school has had massive turnover in Administration in the past four months. The current Administrator, the only one, is the owner, who has zero teaching or curriculum experience. I do not wish to send my child to a school that is run by a for profit, business minded individual, more interested in profit than education. The teachers will be lost without having a common goal on curriculum and an overall educational philosophy. It is so important for a school to be led by someone who has an extensive background in education, otherwise it is no different than any other business. I would highly recommend not to send your child to this school. There are much better alternatives for a much better education, like ACP, Basis and Athlos.
My son love the school and teachers. Very well balanced wrt academic as well as other activities. School choices are totally dependent on kids and parents. This is a great choice for us. The optional club choices are really good; teachers and aides are really approachable.Only drawback I can point out is regarding after care program for halfdays as it will be a huge help for working parents and who will have to take off or work from home to pick the kids. It will be great if they support working parents with a solid aftercare staff/program.
We went to BBS for over five years and left last year. There has been a large turnover in staff (administration, teachers, and aides) since then, especially the last year. There was also a lot of families that left the school, I would assume the retention rate after fourth grade is low. When we started there most teachers had masters degrees, when we left people without BA degrees were being offered teaching jobs. The principal is also the owner, she does not have an education in teaching or school administration, and this is a for-profit charter school. Much of the amenities and extras the school has is funded by the PTA and parents. The reading program after K lacks structure, the computer applications are outdated, most of the curriculum is teacher driven so your experience depends on getting a good teacher each year, socially the school is very "clicky" and staff kids do receive preferential treatment. When we started the curriculum was more advanced than the average public school classroom, I do not think that is the case anymore. I would definitely not recommend this school for any student on an IEP, 504 Plan or requiring Special Ed services.
My child has attended this school for a few years and I've found it overall to be a cut above. I am grateful my child is in a class of 21 students and 2 full time teachers. They are learning yoga in PE, harmonizing like pros in music, studying art history and real life math skills. Creativity is encouraged in writing and presentations that boost self esteem. After school clubs include a show choir, clay class, and multiple athletics. The statement that more than 10 teachers left last year is inaccurate. While there was an increase in turnover, its not always because of the school itself. A couple teachers resigned due to their husband's job transfers. I would take any overtly negative review with a huge grain of salt.
A financial summary was sent home to families and raises more questions. Business owners have multiple expenses to upkeep property, which is ingested by the owner not the parents. This is one ex. of a huge expectation that parents should fund everything from papers/pencils in the classroom to fixing toilets, which is an operating cost. Another big change in this school is staff members and the entire front office staff leaving for better employment opportunities. Is the environment behind closed doors so awful that many teachers, aides, and all front office staff have left? Parent involvement and support is evident in this school, so what atmosphere is this principal creating that produces such a high turn over rate 12 months? After researching the financial statement further, more questions arise where money is going, ex: prop 301 money should be given to teachers yearly. After questioning staff they have not been given this money in the past several years. Other schools in Chandler give their teachers 1500 a year (public and charter). So this financial record is incomplete. Why is the principal/owner, not taking care of the people that makeBright Beginnings excellent.
Yes, we are thrilled to be building an additional classroom to alleviate the long waiting lists. The new room should be completed by fall break and students will then be back to eating in the lunch room. The classroom in the cafeteria was set up this summer just like all of our classrooms. We are thrilled to be staring our new year with great families, excellent students and a supportive administration.
We found BBS eight years ago through greatschools.com as we were researching places to live before our move to Arizona. We visited BBS for a tour of the campus and knew immediately that our children would do well there. We were impressed by the online information about the quality of the school, but fell in love with the atmosphere of a caring, supportive learning environment. Our three kids love their school and are excited about the new middle school as well. I hope that people who have questions about the school come to campus to see for themselves if it is a good fit for them. No one school is perfect for everybody, but I feel that my kids are doing well here and I have no complaints. Also, nobody has ever suggested or requested that I post an online review. I update my review periodically because as time passes, I feel it is helpful to the other parents looking here to have up-to-date information and feedback. This review is my honest, unsolicited opinion as a longtime parent at this school.
As a very long time parent to 3 kids. One in hs, jr. h and my last at bbs elemen. I find these negative comments sad. I want to believe all the criticisms false, however, if there is any truth to any of them let that be a wake up call to fix them. No problems=no complaints. I also realize you will not please everyone and that is why we have choices for our kids education, people! Don't like BBS don't go there. My experience has mostly been positive so I don't see any reason to not recommend bbs.
We have been at Bright Beginnings for 5 years. My children are thriving, having fun & being taught by loving wonderful teachers. All of this talk about NEW principle is ridiculous. She has been the principle/owner since we have been there (& the year before I think too). Of course all places have growing pains when change happens. The people posting negative comments about things do not even have children at BBS anymore as they are in jr high now. We have been nothing but pleased the past 5 years. This year is BY FAR one of the best. There's a new music room, wonderful healthy lunches with lots of fresh choices and the gossipy parents who's children went here before have all left. It is a VERY positive environment and my children love to go to school. They are learning above grade level, being challenged but in a fun and loving way. We are all here to support one another and do the best for our children including the principle and her new wonderful Asst Principle (former teacher) who is always outside greeting the families as they come to school. Please do not believe rating from others who do not or have not even attended the school THIS year & have no place to judge right now.
I continue seeing posts from "previous" employees...It's very sad that these previous employees cannot seem to move on and feel the need to bring down a school where they have previously taught. You may have had some experience that has caused you to feel this way, but should you really use this type of forum where the effects go far beyond one person? Do you think that badly of the people you used to work with? As a CURRENT employee, and an employ who has watched a few teachers come and go, I can say that I am very happy with my job and my administration. I enjoy my teammates and the other teachers I work with. I love my students and my families. I feel supported, and I feel comfortable knowing that if something is bothering me, I can speak to the person I need to FACE to FACE. It is very sad that future and current parents are going to read these false statements being made. To all the parents out there, I hope you will see past these "previous employee" comments, and see them for what they are.
As an employee, I can honestly state that I have only ever known the owner to completely support me. She cares about me inside and outside of the classroom. The education that the children at this school are getting far exceeds any other elementary school in the valley. Amazing staff are attracted to this school for many reasons and are extremely qualified to give all the children at our school well rounded, individualized, learning experiences. If I didn't feel this way, I would certainly get a job elsewhere as I am extremely qualified and would have no problem doing so. I am sure the other teachers as the school feel the same way.
This is our first year at Bright Beginnings and we previously attended a traditional academy. What a positive difference BBS has made on our child. After two difficult years of my child dreading school and it being a daily battle to get to school this year has been a blessing- a complete turn around. Not only is our house a happy place in the morning I am having to rush to catch up with my child who wants to hurry up and get to school by 8 AM to have some additional play time with friends before school starts. The teachers are loving, smart and fun and the front office has been nothing but helpful. Thank you BBS for the positive impact you have had on our family. We look forward to many more years to come.
I am a parent at BBS as well as an experienced educator and I enrolled my sons at BBS two years ago after researching over a dozen schools In our surrounding area. BBS has proven to be a great match for my boys. At kindergarten and 1st grade both are working and being challenged above grade level. Each time I have spoken with administration it has been an open, encouraging and pleasant discussion. My feedback was encouraged, accepted and even invited back. These reviews should focus on the kids and the instructional progress they make that is created by great teachers in BBS classrooms. Be positive advocates for children and the learning environment that allows them to soar! I am pleased with BBS and the instructional model that is being delivered to my kids. Administration is doing a nice job of facilitating all that BBS offers to our children. There is so much to be greatful for at BBS. Let's share and enjoy the positive. It's so healthy for the kids and teachers as well as the community.
After 4 years at BBS we could not be any happier. Not only are our children excelling they are happy and social. We have been fortunate to have great teachers and aides and small class sizes. I do not really understand why a select group of ladies feels it necessary to take jabs at the admin/principal. My children love the principal, they feel like she is their friend because she reads to their class and has every month since we have been at BBS. She says hello and knows their name. Really if you are not happy with a school then leave. It just gives us a better teacher student ratio.
We have lived in several different states and our children have attended several different types of schools. Before moving, four of our children were old enough to attend Bright Beginnings. Our oldest completed 6th grade and was so advanced academically that we advanced her a year. She entered high school a year early and is still a 4.2 student. Wow BBS! While that alone would be a stellar accomplishment for BBS, we cannot rave enough about all of the extracurricular options that the school continually offers. The school also offers before/after care. For a busy family trying to juggle different schedules, this option is priceless. Finally, on a social/caring standpoint, this school is impressive. There is a genuine concern for the children and their development is important to everyone. There are many options for choosing a school in Arizona, but for a parent looking for strong academics without unnecessary homework / busy work, extracurricular activities for all interests, family like environment and group of teachers with a genuine interest in every child, there is only one choice...BBS. Thank you BBS for the solid foundation and great memories you gifted our children.
