As a previous staff member let me fill you in on the truth of what's going on behind the scenes to these teachers. These teachers had their benefits (401K, dental, health, and personal days off ) stripped from them. They receive 3 sick days, the sick days can only be taken by staff, so if they need to attend anything else in their lives for their family it must be done without pay. Unlike what other posts say there is no leadership or professional development. I'm extremely concerned about how a school is still functioning without special education services, no wonder the test scores are so high it is a school for children without any disabilities! the reason you see only positive posts on here is because the front office staff (the ones making decisions for your child's education) asks staff to delete the comments and to write positive ones on here. If you care about who makes decisions for your child's education, this is not the school administration for you. It is run by front office personnel and the new owners young, unprofessional daughter with NO degree, let alone any insight about education. So when you see your teachers smiling they are at the bottom of their barrels and I hope for these teachers that someone who truly understands education can come in and can make decisions without having the front office staff and unprofessional owners daughter pre approve everything.
As I read through the reviews of a few people, I am saddened. Please do not let the vocal opinion of the "few" taint your judgement on an amazing school. BBS had the 4th highest AzMerit scores in the state for 2015-2016. Most importantly, they achieved this by valuing the whole child. Lessons are interactive and engaging; the art, music, spanish, and wellness teachers are beyond amazing. The teachers truly care and are committed. The statement that there is high teacher turn over is false. A majority of the current teaching staff has been at the school for over 10 years. With a new principal and owner...I see only amazing things for BBS! Once again, do not let a few isolated reviews deter you...take a tour yourself...notice the smiles on kids faces, the fun classrooms, the walls filled with artwork, the music coming from the music room, and the sense of community that permeates the school.
BBS is truly a gifted school with the majority of the students studying standards a year ahead. However, teachers are dedicated to helping all students succeed. One of my child's teachers goes above and beyond to make sure each child in her class has appropriate reading material for their reading level and differentiates instruction appropriatly.
While our school has had its challenges in the past with prior leadership, we have turned a new corner. There is a new owner and a new principal...both committed to preserving the core values of the school...high academic standards, small class sizes, amazing special areas like music, art, spanish, and pe, and aides in every classroom.
Character development is of huge value to both the teaching staff and the parenting community. I think one of the things I like best about this school is that there is such a sense of family. The teachers stress character skills and those skills are reinforced at home too. The BBS students are amazing!
The teachers at this school are extremely dedicated and professional. I have had students at this school for a total of 6 straight years...I have never had an issue with any of their teachers. They engage my children, motivate them to learn, and help foster character skills.
Bright Beginnings values the development of the whole child. They do give homework to teach time management and reinforce skills. However, it is at a manageable level so students can still be kids when they are at home and have time to play, as well as other extra-curricular activities.
