This school has teachers and administrators that are essentially "phoning it in" after too many years on the job. There is a true lack of inspiration that permeates the culture of the school. As an example, they are still using The Outsiders for literature studies. Compare that with charter schools studying true classics and then think about what this lackluster 90's curriculum will do for your child. Children allowed to excel by acceptance into clubs or accelerated work may fair better, but don't expect more than average treatment if you don't play up to the right people. Discipline is also sorely lacking with children as young as 12 already experimenting with drugs and/or shoplifting as hobbies. Don't let the nice neighborhood and Chandler zipcode fool you, this school environment could present a real stumbling block for your child and is best avoided.
The school report card rates the school as a B, not an A+. That is a different rating that is misunderstood by many parents. Instruction and curriculum is mediocre. Reading and writing scores have continued to decline, and is in jeopardy of receiving a C this year, if things do not improve.
The quality of instruction is mediocre at best. Children are given laptops, but this use of technology does not mean the teachers are busy being innovative. This is a middle school that uses the 70's television series Roots to "teach" history and considers The Outsiders to be a "great classic". Despite some worthwhile features (orchestra), this school fails to inspire a passion for learning. Only chosen "star" students will be given any hope for opportunities to fully engage in their learning. Teachers here seem to have little passion for their respective subjects and only exert enough effort to meet minimum expectations. Don't let the laptops fool you, this school offers a late 20th century education to children desperately in need of one prepared for the 21st.
I'm an 8th grader. Our school payed $700 for each and every of the hundreds of students we have, and that very likely amounts to more than $500,000. Yet, our school doesn't even buy the walls in between urinals. To be honest, all these laptops pose are a distraction to students to play games and more of the like. I myself included. Everything was much more efficient when there weren't personal laptops for each student, and things were on paper due to this fact. The addition of these laptops also forces students to stare at a screen all day long to get their work done. After, say, a year of this, you can imagine that this is not exactly good for eyesight. Aprende also has a ridiculously stereotypical bullying issue. I've never seen so many alone people trying to get attention then giving up whenever they get dismissed as "annoying". Dress code should also be enforced better. Girls wear short shorts which are literally shorter than guys' boxers. What the heck, Aprende. A+ my butt.
Being a 8th Grader In Pod B is Amazing. Sure Girls Wear so called 'inappropriate' clothing, That clothing is short shorts, Girls starting wearing these in 5th Grade, It's not biggy! The teachers are amazing, Including our Police Officer, Officer Gomez everyone calls him OG though! I recommend Aprende Middle School for most of the children, especially if you're coming from Fees.
