5 stars for Humphrey Elementary!!!! My husband and I stopped in unexpectedly with no pre-scheduled appointment to meet the Principal and our child's teacher. Principal Luke Hickey was fantastic. He greeted us immediately and thoughtfully spent time answering every question we asked about Humphrey Elementary, the teachers, the security and generally the overall operation of the school. We previously researched schools extensively and we're prepared with many questions. Principal Hickey was exceptionally knowledgable about every topic discussed. He strongly believes in building positive relationships and promoting open lines of communication among students, parents, school staff and community members. He answered questions about school security and confirmed a solid action is in place to ensure that our children are safe and secure. The campus, playground, classrooms, gymnasium are clean and inviting. The front office staff Lisa and Aimee were delightfully helpful and patient. Our child's teacher Mrs. King is amazing. She thoughtfully and graciously takes time to discuss any questions we have. It is evident that our child feels comfortable with her is now excited to attend school.

I have sent three of my children to CTA Humphrey for the last three years, since they were in K, 1, and 2. In that time, I have volunteered as the Art Masterpiece teacher for two grades for all three years, and have had the honor of working with many of the faculty and staff. One child briefly entered the CATS program and attended another school, where he was treated as a number, before happily returning to his Humphrey family. It will be a sad day when my boys graduate from Humphrey, as it is for many of the sixth graders I see sobbing as they hug their former teachers, Mrs. H, and Principal Hickey on their last days.

Kids pick on my child. I've tried to talk to the school but they are no help. We will move from this school.

I am so happy my child attends CTA Humphrey. I am very surprised to see some negative comments about this school. This is our 2nd year at this school and it has been an incredible experience for my daughter. Even though it is a larger school, it's small enough to feel like a family here. The teachers are super involved with the well being of the kids and know most of them by name. I can't say enough wonderful things about Mr. Hickey the principal. He is out greeting the kids in the mornings and in the afternoons saying goodbye. Love this school.

For me, the bad outweigh the good and my children will not be attending CTA Humphrey next year. These issues could easily be resolved but I do not see it happening in time for my children to benefit. The Saxon Math and Spalding Reading Programs seem to work really well for my daughter. The principal, Mr. Hickey, really is a great principal and knows my daughter by name. He is very involved and is out every morning and afternoon for drop-off and pick-up. The security at the school is seriously lacking. I'd go into detail but I'm afraid to point out all of the flaws, for obvious reasons. I do not feel my daughter is safe on this campus! There is a serious lack of communication between teachers and parents, at least with my experience. The teacher is very disorganized. The ratings are low because it has only recently become a CTA, I'm sure the rating will be going up and meet the levels of the other CTA's in the area.

It is sad that parents of students who are unhappy or don't do well have to write negative comments about schools. Most students will have success when parents support their schools as partners in education. Parents with positive comments have every right to post their positive comments ,as those negative people who are never happy in any situation. This is a fantastic school with fantastic teachers. Look beyond your negativity, and you will see teachers interested in education for all students, irregardless of their income . It is impossible for students to thrive and be happy if all their parents do is complain. Think positive thoughts, if you don't fit it, be quiet and move on.

When a school claims itself to be a "traditional school" it should be just that. Traditional. However, after having my child in here for one year I see that there is nothing "traditional" about it. Don't be fooled by the recent rash of 5 star ratings. The teachers of this school just discovered that this site exists. You can connect the dots by looking at the dates of when these sudden 5 star ratings were posted.

We were a bit skeptical at first as Humphrey had such a low rating on here and we were coming from CTA Freedom, but I have to say, after some of the IEP kinks were ironed out, our family LOVES Humphrey. I have never met a more caring and understanding group of teachers and such a hands-on principal. Mr. Hickey knows EVERY SINGLE STUDENT and what's even more impressive is that he actually has a relationship with all of them! While there are still some kinks that need to be worked out, this school has done well with the transition which wouldn't happen without a great staff and a principal who is a leader. Anytime we had concerns about either of our children, a meeting was set up and we worked as a team to find a reolution. Furthermore, when my kindergartener was having adjustment issues, the drop-off teachers worked as a team to make her transition as easy as possible. Another thing to note is that they have the clubs they offer on their website to educate parents and encourage students to join. My daughters did running club and had a blast but can't wait to try cheer and choir next year. Go Marshalls!

My daughter is in kindergarten with the most amazing teacher, Mrs. Mosca. We are so happy with the level of education that she is getting, while still having a nurturing environment. I absolutely love the Principal Mr. Hickey he is hands on and you can tell he loves his school and career!

I love Humphrey School! My son has been going to Humphrey since the 3rd grade. He is now a 6th grader, and he is a straight A student. The principal and staff have made such a difference in his life. My daughter is in third grade. Her teacher is Ms. Bullock, and she is fantastic. The teachers and staff work very hard to meet the needs of their students. The new curriculum is wonderful. My kids have learned a lot. We love Humphrey!

I couldn't be more happy that my daughter is a student here at CTA Humphrey! She has come a long way in her studies and I owe this all to the teachers and staff at Humphrey! Her current teacher, Ms. Bullock has given my daughter the confidence to speak up when she does not understand her lesson or gives her special projects to help increase her ability to understand her work! I love this school and the staff! Thank you for making a difference in my daughters life!!!

This is my child's first year at CTA Humphrey. We were on the waiting list at CTA Liberty,at the beginning of the year, and decided to come here for the curriculum. To my surprise I was very impressed with the positive atmosphere that this school displays. The kindergarten teachers are outstanding! My child has learned so much this year. I have been so happy with the school and I'm looking forward to my child continuing on to first grade next year.

This is our first year at Humphrey and my daughter LOVES it here. I was so excited to see that Humphrey had an AMAZING principal and staff that is knowledgeable and caring. I know exactly how my child is doing everyday, we sign off on their work daily, no surprises! The curriculum is hard but very rewarding. She has learned so much this year. I recommend this school to anyone looking for a caring and challenging education with a family like atmosphere. Go Humphrey Marshals!!

This school utilizes the Saxon math and Spalding reading program which is great. What is not great, is that there is zero collaboration between the school staff and the parents. You will like this school as long as your child does not ever have issues with acedemics, social development/peers, behavioral, etc. If your child does struggle in any of those areas, be prepared to find out months later at parent/teacher conferences. Also, don't waste your efforts trying to offer solutions because they'll be ignored. There are other schools within the district and in neighboring districts that teach this curriculum. Run, don't walk to one of the other locations.

Humphrey is an excellent school no matter what the test grades are! The staff is amazing and communicate VERY well with the parents! Don't get a bad view of Humphrey just based off of the negative comments. Don't let the test grades decide whether or not you are sending your children there. I have taken the time to write this because I really care about Humphrey. The principal Mr. Hickey is an amazing principal and he is a dad to all of the students that go there. The quality of teachers are better than you would think. They are involved, knowledgeable, and caring. Consider putting your children at Humphrey very well!

We love Humphrey! This is our 8th year there. I will be enrolling my fifth child as a Kinder next year. Not only have all my children excelled academically, they have grown socially and emotionally as well due to to the amazing staff there. Our kids KNOW they are safe and cared for at school. While there are high expectations academically, the teachers always meet each student where they are and uniquely motivate each child to do their very best. Our family is excited for many more happy years at Humphrey!!

My daughter currently attends this school in kindergarten. Ms. Alvarado is an amazing teacher. The reason I'm giving such a low rating is because the other students. Good curriculum and good teachers will only do so much. Both of which this school has but when there are students who have behavioral problems in the class, not only are those behaviors picked up by the other students but the teacher has to take time away from the other students. There is also a high percentage of children with educational needs which slows the pace of the class. We will not be returning for 1st grade.

I have two children at Humphrey and we could not be at a better school for their needs! When we moved into the neighborhood, I was concerned about Humphrey's rating on this website. However, the teachers have proven that test scores are not the only measurement for a good school. Yes, the rating on Great Schools is low, but that is based on a test snapshot only. The teachers at Humphrey care deeply about their students. Both of my kids' teachers have gone to great lengths to make sure they have the help they need to succeed. We have a new principal now and that has made a HUGE difference in morale, both for the staff and the families. We believe test scores are not the only standard by which to measure a school. Humphrey certainly performs much higher than it's rating would suggest.

Humphrey is an excellent school regardless of what its test results would indicate. Using controversial standardized test results alone to rate a school is misleading. The school s population is diverse and emulates the real world more than most schools in this area. With the hiring of new principal Luke Hickey, parent involvement is improving at Humphrey, and because parents are a child s most important teachers, this can lead to only good things for the school. The teachers at Humphrey are well-educated, dedicated, compassionate, and invested in the school s excellence. There are many choices, but I m very glad we chose our home school. Humphrey is teaching our children academics and so much more. It s teaching acceptance and diversity in an unpretentious way without the least bit of elitism.
