I have two children at Humphrey and we could not be at a better school for their needs! When we moved into the neighborhood, I was concerned about Humphrey's rating on this website. However, the teachers have proven that test scores are not the only measurement for a good school. Yes, the rating on Great Schools is low, but that is based on a test snapshot only. The teachers at Humphrey care deeply about their students. Both of my kids' teachers have gone to great lengths to make sure they have the help they need to succeed. We have a new principal now and that has made a HUGE difference in morale, both for the staff and the families. We believe test scores are not the only standard by which to measure a school. Humphrey certainly performs much higher than it's rating would suggest.
Humphrey is an excellent school regardless of what its test results would indicate. Using controversial standardized test results alone to rate a school is misleading. The school s population is diverse and emulates the real world more than most schools in this area. With the hiring of new principal Luke Hickey, parent involvement is improving at Humphrey, and because parents are a child s most important teachers, this can lead to only good things for the school. The teachers at Humphrey are well-educated, dedicated, compassionate, and invested in the school s excellence. There are many choices, but I m very glad we chose our home school. Humphrey is teaching our children academics and so much more. It s teaching acceptance and diversity in an unpretentious way without the least bit of elitism.
Humphrey was a great school. Until the principal sam merril left. Now there is a new principal, dr. Even, who just doesn't seem very kid friendly.
I was very impressed by Humphreys kindersteps program. My sons teacher was wonderful!!! Very caring and made learning so much fum for the kids. This was not our home school, we went because in Kindersteps there are only a few schools with the program but my son truly loved his year here!
My child attens to the Kender-step program, and I think it's wonderful that their allowng AM classes as well as Pm classes to be avaliable. My child is also learning his colors, numbers, and begining how to write. Thank you teachers for all your support.
Not the best school in terms of academia. My 4th grade daughter is learning math this year that she learned in 2nd and 3rd grade at a California school. Both her 3rd and 4th grade teacher do not give much homework at all. That said, I do like the teachers and the policies they implement in class and the learning structure in general. Kids can learn a lot more than we think they could so I think kids should be pushed a little harder. Great extracurricular activities as well.
so far have had a great experience at Humphrey school. Kindergarten (Mrs. Ortega) and first grade (Ms. Sanford) teachers were very good. Kids are given buddies several grades ahead of them who come and read to them. They then have older kids on the playground the know and relate to. Lots of quality learning activities integrated with crafts. Many interesting things to do focused on learning. Learning 'centers' in the classroom kids choose from (reading, poetry, math, etc.) with pre-set activities they know they need to accomplish by a certain time during the day which teaches time-management. Other creative instructor-led activities where children interact with eachother and teacher for spelling and reading. Lots of hands-on manipulatives for teaching math, counting, patterns, fractions.
My 2 children attend this school. They are in the 1st grade and are doing great! They have great teachers and are always trying to do the best for each child paying attention to any special need they may have!
I really don't care for the principal. The office staff is great and as helpful as they can be allowed. The principal spends all of her time in her office. I never seen her in the cafeteria during lunch, never out at recess, nor having contact in the classrooms.
Humphrey Elementary is one of the most awesome schools in Chandler. The principal Sam Merrill is tuned into the needs of the students, parents and teachers and is always upbeat and positive. We're very lucky to have amazing teachers at Humphrey also.
