As a teacher at OAA I can assure you that OAA has got serious problems. Our students consistently score well below the state averages when it comes to the AIMS (about 35% of the students pass compared to a state average of 70%) and there's good reasons for that. You can find those statistics on this website. Last year over half of the teachers that started the school year quit or were fired before the year was over, and there's good reasons for that too. As far as I know we've never had the same high school principal two years in a row. Just keep these facts in mind when looking for a school.
I am a third grade teacher at Omega Alpha Academy. The Teachers, Executive Director, staff and students at OAA are a great team. We are all working together to assure that our student's are getting the best education in Math, Reading ,Writing,Science and Social Studies. We the Educators at OAA are all working towards the same mission. Our student's education and well being is our main priority
As a parent at Omega Alpha Academy, I can truthfully state that the school's goal is education. This school concentrates on preparing my children academically.
Great School. I am very happy with the staff, teachers, teaching philosophy, and the special attention to the education of my sons. A school 5 stars!!!
My daughter has attended Omega Alpha Academy for one and a half years. She has learned so much, and did very well on her AIMS test for the 2005-2006 school year. I believe that her great performance was the direct result of the school's emphasis on increased academic rigor, and the use of technology to increase student engagement. She was able to log onto an internet based program called Study Island that is directly based on the Arizona State Standards. Both last year and this year she has been actively involved in the after school computer club. She is very excited about the school's new music program. Furthermore, she is diligently performing her hands on science project. Finally as a parent of a fifth grade I would rate this school as an great school!
Omega Alpha Academy was begun with great vision. Under the new leadership all that has changed. The staff is very demoralized and it has been reflected in the classroom. OAA is again underperforming. It is a clear indication to the type of leadership or lack there of. Charter schools are meant to give parents and students a better alternative, but that is not the case here. Extra-curricular activities are low priority for the Executive Director.
