Mountain school is not just a school but a community~ We have loved this school from the time the receptionist greeted us as we entered until this very day. I have 3 children who have attended or are still attending and even with all the new boundaries and charters coming in, we will still strongly support our school and our community because this environment is indeed rare. Come and see for yourself, I'm sure you'll agree.

My son is a 6th grader at Mountain. We cannot say enough about this wonderful school. The teachers and administration are dedicated and nurturing. Parental involvement is phenomenal. My son's reading, reasoning, and vocabulary have all increased in just the first 2 months he has attended this school.

This is my child's first year at Mountain, and we are thrilled with the transition. Her teacher communicates regularly with us regarding our child's progress and brings so much knowledge, patience, creativity, and experience to the classroom. As a bonus, the newsletters come home without grammatical errors!

I went to Mountain School for 7 years and adored it. I couldn't have been in a better environment and the faculty was awesome! I have no complaints for the Principal, she is one of the nicest people I have ever met.

We waited 2 years to get into this school and it was well worth it. This school is the most parent oriented school in flagstaff. Parent participation is a requirement in this school which makes everyone involved. In which today parents need to be more involved. School has excellent teachers with small student/teacher ratios. I would reccomend this school to anyone who wants an awesome school environment for their child/ren.

My two children have attended Mountain School for the last two years. Mountain School is a charter school and excels in many areas the public school lacks in. This school is very small in comparison to the local public schools. Every teacher at Mountain School is dedicated to teaching a broad curriculum, with math, reading, and writing also at its forefront. Mountain School gives students a progressive type of education that cannot be obtained at most public schools. As a teacher myself, Mountain School provides students with critical thinking activities like Odessey of the Mind and many 'hands on' experiences through numerous field trips (five or six per year, in comparison to one or two at most schools). The success of Mountain School not only comes from its involved and motivated teachers, but also the level of commitment from its parents. At Mountain School parent involvement is a must!

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
