The popularity contest seems much more important than anything else at this school. I feel that it is not a place for my child to feel secure and grow as a person.

A freshman parent's view: So far a good experience. The school seems to be state champs in most sports and there is a higher level of parental involvement in this aspect. Academically, class work seems too easy and will move my child into all honors program next year. Teachers seem capable and interested. The school environment is safe. I don't hear much about drug or violence issues. The school is neat and clean. Overall, I believe the smaller student population, new principal and teachers make this a very nice school for your child to attend.

Overall this school is good - it has strong arts, music, and dance programs, however, the science curriculum is sorely lacking and the Math department is short teachers which affects the quality of the mathematics curriculum.

The academic programs at FHHS are adequate; however, I feel that the students are given too many second chances to earn that A. I believe this is a result of the school's determination to meet and exceed state and federal standards. Because this is a small school in a small district, there are fewer checks and balances within the system than at larger schools. This makes it difficult for mediating problems between the schools, students and their families. Because of the size of the school, many administrators carry more than one title and responsibility, creating conflicts of interest and other issues. The arts and music programs have become more popular and better funded in recent years. This a fairly affluent community with moderate parent involvement.

In general the teachers are putting out well above their required day to the students. I am both a parent of two at this school as well as one of its teachers. I also have one of the few PhD's at the school. The teachers are very motivated and show a high concern for their students. Many teachers like myself shell out a significant amount of cash for labs, equipment and extras to support the students. I am proud to be associated with this institution.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.

For high schools, AIMS results, AYP status and graduation/dropout rates are used. Schools are identified as Excelling, Highly Performing, Performing Plus, Performing, Underperforming, Failing to Meet Academic Standards or Pending.
