A great and caring staff. The community is an outstanding place to raise a family.
My son is a special education student. His teachers and aides are experienced and go above and beyond what is required by IDEA. After a rough two years in another district he is now excelling at Coronado.
Coronado is a good but not great elementary school. Due to the rapid growth in the area, there are many 'growing pains' and many teachers have less than 5 years experience. On the other hand, the facility is excellent and though inexperienced, the teachers try hard and are supported well by administration. Look for a bright future as the teachers mature and the growth stabilizes
I have been highly impressed with the quality of instruction at Coronado. The teachers have a genuine interest in my children and take time to know them as people. The standards of behavior are very high and the students seem to treat each other very well. The school just feels good when you are there.
We also sent our child to this school after attending the first 3 years of education in the Benjamin Franklin school system. We do feel that she has made progress in comparison. We are also glad they now have a vice principle (too bad he is not the principal). The kids love him but he doesn t seem very responsive to the teacher or the parents needs. (He is not open to ideas, he may give you lip service but he doesn t really listen) The school is in desperate need of more staff. The janitor monitors the cafeteria and otherwise there is no adult supervision. The same can be said about recess. Now don t get me wrong the teachers are great and so are the parents. The teachers really go the extra mile for their students. The parents are really involved and participation really shows at Coronado. However, This school is growing and getting better.
We sent our children to this school after they had attended their first two years of formal education in the Benjamin Franklin school system. We have been somewhat disappointed with this decision. We do not feel the children have made very much progress in comparison.
This is the 2nd year we have had children in Coronado. I have seen more organization in the school. This growing school is getting better. So glad they now have a vice principle.
I am very impressed with Mrs. Cain a kindergarten teacher. My son is coming out of his shell and is learning and growing in her class.
Coronado is a great school. They showed great quality and involvement. The school has been champs in almost every sport in the past years. The school is very discipline, with its dress code. There is a great amount of safety. the teachers are great, but I am sure I am not the only one to tell you but the Principal could lightin up.
We moved here from out of state. I was concerned about being a smaller district and a K-8 school. After being here for two years, I couldn't be much happier. The principal is enthusiastic and open to ideas. He listens to my concerns as a parent and truly keeps my children's welfare a top priority. We've been exceptionally happy with the teachers. They meet the students where they are and encourage them to excel. The standard is held high and the students meet or exceed that standard. The PTO has been wonderful this year. They've tried many new things and are very active and supportive of the school. I have to also mention the excellent office staff. You will not find friendlier or more helpful staff anywhere! They truly make a wonderful first impression on visitors, and new students and parents feel very welcome after being at the school.
Coronado has a very caring and capable staff and a principal who loves his students. My kids actually are in a hurry to get to school!
My children have had a wonderful experience here at Coronado. Their teachers are experienced, compassionate, and understanding. I enjoy the unique atmosphere of a K-8 school. My students feel like they belong.
I have a 2nd grade and a 5th grade student at Coronado. The 2002-03 school yr. was their first at Coronado. I transferred them from a Franklin school in Mesa. We changed mostly due to moving into the neighborhood. My 2nd grader went from a miserable, traumatizing 1st grade yr. to a wonderful 2nd grade year at Coronado. She has come out of her shell and enjoys going to school, whereas last year she literally clung to me and constantly made excuses for why she didn't want to go to school. This was a problem for 6 other students in that same class at the time. She has asked me to make sure she goes to Coronado again next year. If you have a type B child who is more creative, imaginative and hands-on in his/her learning skills, then Coronado is the place! I was much more concerned about my 5th grader because she excels in a more structured and disciplined learning evironment and I was also concerned she wouldn't be challenged enough. The 5th grade curriculum has exceeded my expectations. She has been challenged and her teacher is great! She communicates well with me and I feel very welcome in the classroom. There are a few problem spots here and there regarding communication between teachers and parents, but the resources are there if you follow through. I gave the principal the highest rating because he is very capable, informed, and parent-friendly. He's always reachable. He cares about his school and his students. Also, I must say the PTO is the hardest working PTO I've seen in six years. The parents are so involved and tireless when it comes to doing things that benefit the school and the children. The room parents also go above and beyond. Parent involvement and participation really shows at Coronado. I started the year not really knowing what to expect, and not having high expectations, and I have been pleasantly surprised. There's room for improvement in safety and discipline, but parents need to get involved if they want to change that!
We have three children attending Coronado. I wouldn't want my 1st, 3rd and 6th graders going anywhere else. Although the district is young and growing fast - a dedicated, caring staff is what 'makes' this school/district. Another positive point about the school is that individualized instruction is working at this institution. My first grade son is an excellent reader. His teacher has given him a safe, caring environment to spread his wings. As well, other kids who aren't as advanced as he are also succeeding at their own level. This is what public education was meant to be.
We've been so pleased by the instruction our two young sons have received at Coronado. The entire staff really cares about students here. It's not like some of the other, bigger districts nearby where individual attention is a thing of the past. I realize that one of my neighbors removed her son and daughter from the school and I couldn't have disagreed with her more. Leave it to those controling parents who believe their children are 'accelerated' in most areas. If those parents don't get what they want... they're out of there. It's a shame, schools are partly created out of community involvement and support. Parents like that don't help anyone - including their kids!
This school is well on it's way. For a small district in a growing neighborhood. THe amount of parent involvement is a lot higher than the majority of schools. It is a K-8 school, and will not be comparable to a junior high, but definitely has less problems that many junior high schools have.
Coronado is a young school that has grown up fast. Yet, they are making it work. The teachers are caring and willing to be flexible with students. Our child has special needs and her teacher has really worked with us and is supportive. We were concerned about the K-8 atmosphere because of the huge age range in the school, but we have encountered no problems. The children appear to be happy at the school. It seems the community has input that is listened to by staff and teachers.
Overall we are very happy with Coronado. It is a growing school and district. As student enrolment increases the budget will also grow (but at a year delay) and this has helped address some of the growing pains. We have been very fortunate as our children have some excellent teachers. The principal cares very strongly about the kids and he is easy to talk with (both adults and children) which makes the level of parent involvement (or lack of) very frustrating. Rather than complaining behind the scenes I strongly suggest and encourage parents to meet with the school, principal, teachers, and school board. Find out their views, help them understand yours and work together to make the system better. Many of their goals just need help to reach reality. This is a community school and should reflect the community but reality dictates it won't be perfect for everyone's specilized (sometimes spoiled)needs. Coronado is not perfect, but it is a very good school and with help it may become a great school. Please join us, as the more people that participate, the less individuals have to overcome, we want our kids to get the best well rounded experience at the best school and this is a work in progress.
My son went here as a 7th & 8th grader. I felt my son wasn't challenged and the teachers had the nerve to complain that he was disruptive in class after I repeatedly requested he be placed in advanced classes (and was denied) to keep him focused and stressed to them that he needs to be challenged & kept active. I have ran across a couple of teachers that are helpful and want to give a little extra. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone and I know of many other parents that feel the same way.
