So far this year, I have been very pleased and impressed with the level of parent/teacher/school communication. My son's Kinder teacher is amazing. He loves his school and we are very happy with our choice to place him at our home school.
We found that the Kindergarten teacher was nice and and the school is clean with a decent playground.
The school website does not accurately describe this school as Oceanography, Project Greenlight, et al are no longer available and the classes are NOT 20 students per class. It's an average of 30 now, some with 35. The award received by the principal at AR does not accurately reflect the opinions and experience of staff and parents. True accounting of this school should include the faculty turn over rate and the student withdrawals (long term families, multiple sibling), over the last 2 years, as well. Parents are not welcome and teachers are afraid to be seen talking to parents AT ALL. An investigation continues into the involvement of a parent , who is not in this school's boundary and the legality of her involvment with various board decisions and local election results. Until all information is gathered and decisions can be made as to the mystery surrounding decisions made at this school, this award is a questionable representation of reality. This school has gone from being an in demand, highly regarded school to a mediocre institution where no teacher is allowed to outperform another.
I have 3 children that have gone and are currently going to AR. I have heard many complaints about the former and current principal. I like them both. I haven't had to deal with them a great deal, but some, and found them both very responsive. Most of the teachers are what makes this school great. We have been very lucky to have a bunch of excellent, motivated, creative teachers. I agree that some wonderful teachers have unfortunately left. The PTSO is also great. Last years Science fair, sweetheart dance, and Spring auction were great fun. I appreciate how the Principal is visible around the school at the crosswalk etc. He appears to be big on safety. Great school, teachers and families. We are grateful to be here.
Ashland is an awesome school with well behaved students, caring teachers and great leadership. Wouldn't want my kids anywhere else. Keep up the good work!
My daughter has gone to this school for 3 years. I had been impressed with the academics, teaching quality, and high standards for behavior at the school. Under the 'new' principal, I am not. Test scores have dropped dramatically. Students wander the halls freely. I have read memos from department chairs full of mis-spelled words and grammatical errors. The school installed a 'squishy' machine. For $.25 kids get a little squishy plastic toy. It's a huge money-maker and a huge distraction at the school. I wondered - where does the money from this machine go? Turns out it goes to the principal! And it is at his discretion as to where the money goes. Unreal! Great teachers have left, class sizes are going up, test scores going down. Time to move my daughter, and my tax dollars, to another school. Sadly, this was a great school. It's not now.
I absolutely love this school. I am an involved parent & have loved the excellent communication between teachers, staff & parents. They are incredibly accommodating to our specific medical needs as well. They are amazing.
My children have gone to Ashland Ranch for a total of 5 years and we have been extremely impressed with the education they have been receiving. The teachers from K-6 are professional and make learning fun for the kids. The new principal is great and has brought a fresh and much needed energy to the campus. The extra curricular activities and service projects the school participates in creates a wonderful community at Ashland Ranch!
My son has been enrolled at this school since grade 1 and has completed grade 5 with a 4.0 average in advanced learning programs. His 5th grade teacher misplaced assignments frequently and posted a missing assignment on the last day of school after hours. This dropped his grade. The principal was unresponsive, said it was up to the teacher and we would just have to wait till next year, besides, he is a straght A student. Wrong answer. I am looking for professional competancy.
This is my sons second year at AR. I love the school and the teachers. They have worked very hard to bring him up to level and now he is exceeding level. My only concern is not all of his teachers respond to their emails and seemed to have turned the cheek on recent bullying ie: verbal statements and physical threats. Other than these small situations I am extremely pleased and will miss the AR when my son moves on the South Valley next school year.
Great school. We have been here a year and a half and have been very happy with the teachers and the learning environment.
Great school. We have had 4 children at the school and have been impressed by most of the teachers. The only negative is the pincipal, but she is moving to the new school in the Higley district.
I think the worst thing about Ashland Ranch is the traffic. Since this is an issue that has nothing to do with the principal, I have nothing negative to say. School District, HOA and City need to get some guidelines in place so that our kids are safer. Residents need to lighten up. You know where the school is!!! Go around.
The curriculum at this school is continually being downgraded and my kids are bored senseless. The principal is increasingly uncommunicative. It has become a cheerleading school - where spirit is more important than academics. Teachers are good, but they are constrained by a micro-managing, fiscally irresponsible principal. We are actively pursuing other options.
My son loves Ashland Ranch Elementary he has many friends and I know he will love his new teacher. As for me and many other parents of children at Ashland we are not looking forward to another year with the principal, Ybarra!
There are many good teachers at this school, particularly in the upper grades however the curriculum is in need of some changes, especially in the area of math. I think the younger grades need an increased emphasis on the math basics with more repetition of concepts through DAILY HOMEWORK. Yes, many parents will complain about this but the students deserve to be challenged and become competent with basic facts at an earlier age. The attitudes of the parents at this school with regard to taking responsibilibty for their child's actions/homework/grades are amazingly poor. This could be a really good school but unfortunately there are too many negative, uninvolved parents to support this being a better educational environment. Math homework needs to relate to and be a review of what is being taught daily and a tougher approach with parents through stronger leadership is needed.
I have mixed feelings about Ashland Ranch. On the one hand, they have fantastic teachers and involved parents. On the other, they have an principal whose leadership and financial skills are sorely lacking.
My daughter attended Ashland Ranch during her kindergarten year. We loved her teacher and the year was great. However during her first grade year the response to issues from her teacher and the principal was very poor. I have since moved my daughter to another school and she has attended it since. We love our back to basics school and she has excelled in the environment. The structure, great response from teachers and the administration, the cirriculum and parent involvement outshines Ashland Ranch. In my view Ashland Ranch has poor administration and could do with a overhaul.
I have two children who attend Ashland Ranch and we love this school. Every Teacher we have had from Kdg. - 4th has been wonderful! Although both of my children have had all A's, I feel they have been challenged and are consitently learning. I sometimes feel the homework is a bit too much especaially for the younger grades. All of my experiences with the Teachers have been great. The one time I needed the Principals assitance she was wonderful, helpful, caring & professional. I hope our future years here at Ashland Ranch are just as Great!
Parent involvement is great at Ashland Ranch. We have been happy with the programs offered and just amazed at the wonderful dedicated teachers. We feel the teachers make the school, even with the negative administration. Teacher quality is high and outweighs lack of principal leadership.
