Thank you for your interest in our schools. We are proud of the environment that has been created where each child is kept at their cutting edge of learning. The great state of Arizona allows families to choose a school environment that fits best with their needs. While parent reviews can give you a good snapshot of how a family is feeling at a given moment in time, we ask that if you have a question regarding any of our award winning programs please contact us for a personal tour at 480-222-0811.
School's new location is too small to house over 800 students. Where are the kids to play, on the surrounding neighbors' lawn? Where do parents park, blocking streets increasing traffic jams--the last event only a small portion used the parking lot across the street as it was more convenient to park in front of peoples houses and block the roads around the school. HOA discourages residents from parking on the streets, yet residence are suppose to be inconvenienced because of the bad choice of this school's lack of providing ample parking. Dropping off and picking up kids, traffic congestion, blocking neighborhood streets is projected to be a nightmare. School is made of many prefab rectangular trailer like structures screwed together and stuccoed over to make it appear it was constructed on the grounds. I have no objections for a local school, the location is not the right size for a school for over 800 students. One block south of there are two nice recently built schools whose lots are big enough to accommodate parking and better access for parents to drop off and pick up their children.
Fact: 65 employees at the start of August 2013, down to 20 of those original employees by May of 2014. That speaks volumes about an employer and what kind of institution they are running. --former employee
Outstanding well rounded educational experience. We have two kiddos entering 3rd Grade this year. We started at STCS during pre-school and have been part of the growth and innovation. Nothing is overlooked. The children are educated and nurtured. This is so important. I believe the teachers, administrators, and the parents love the children and children feel this. This makes the environment especially rich for education. Children respond positively to learning when they feel good about themselves and their adult leaders and mentors. Parents embrace all kiddos as their own and children treat each other with respect and kindness. We are excited about the new school year and all future years at STCS.
Love Dr. Sippel the principal. Great educator and great school, love it! Excited for new building and sports!
This school has be a blessing to our family. My child loves going to this school and is treated with respect and love from her teachers! It has a small community feel, but offers great educational opportunities in the elementary grades. I know where my child stands nationally due to the MAP test information they provide. We love it!
DITTOS, DITTOS, DITTOS. Be prepared for your kids to come home without a clue and lots of busywork! Be prepared to home school after working all day, and after your kids have been in school all day. No accountability, no teaching! Just videos, dittos and busy works. Videos that can be found on PBS
My kids love going to school because of the great teachers, the awesome administration and the principal is the best!! He really knows how to relate to kids. Love this school! So glad we found it! Leveled homework means your child is not crushed with homework and no sugar snacks means they aren't coming home with candy all the time. Love and Logic, daily gym, it's just what a school is supposed to be. Love it!
Long on promises, short on follow through. This school promises individualized instruction for each student that is demonstrated by the individualized learning plans parents are given at each of the four conferences. At the past two conferences, my child's ILP form had no math goals or benchmark scores and no explanation as to why. Definitely failing my child.
I absolutely LOVE this school! I read some of the other reviews and I have to say I could not disagree more with the bad reviews! I am heartbroken that we have to leave this school due to my husband's job transfer. My kids are in kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade and we transferred them from Edu-Prize. This school has been a dream. My kids all learn differently, and are definitely not the "sit still and be quiet" type. I love that each teacher we've had has seen the good in my kids and cheered them on, steering them in the right direction while still letting them be who they are. This isn't to say behavior issues are never brought up, but when they are, I really get the feeling that the school is "for" me and my kids, and not expecting me to fix my kid. Every p/t conference has been a delight, and my kids have grown SO much just from the semester they have been here. I cannot recommend STLC highly enough! If you are looking to an alternative to traditional schools, this is the place for you!
Very disapointed with the lack of communication between parents and teachers;however , if you happen to be fortunate to meet with one good teacher then the rest of the year should be smooth, open communication, and great results. The technology aspect is lacking here; there is no "cutting edge". Moreover, the problem is that there is no real consistency and the hit or miss approach to teaching was not a good fit for our family. I admire the principal's passion for this charter school and education in general but I would advise parents to do their homework and look elsewhere. There are better schools to serve your child's educational needs for a brighter future.
My two children are beginning their fourth year at STLC and we've been very pleased. All the teachers we've had experience with have been very engaged and caring. Since it's a smaller school with a strong community feel to it, I feel confident that my kids won't be lost in the shuffle. Both of my kids are learning well and enjoying school, and they love their teachers. The self contained gifted program has really been great for one of my kids - I know there that her educational needs are being met in ways they couldn't be in a standard classroom. I have always found the administration to be very open to suggestions from parents. I also love the fact that they have daily P.E., music class, healthy school lunches, and their after-school clubs. My one concern would be the level of teacher turnover. I've caught hints through the years that some of the teachers (excellent ones) are not happy, or have been put in difficult situations without a lot of support from administration. And yes, the half days are a pain, but they've made big improvements this year by reducing the number of half days and providing after-school programs when they do have them.
San Tan Learning Center has been a wonderful place for my sons for the past three years. My youngest was in the preschool program for two years, it was an amazing program, he loved to go to school every day and he thrived in the program. Last year, my oldest had the most amazing 1st grade teacher. He didn t like school very much until he got to 1st grade and his teacher turned everything around for him. He was struggling in school so she put in extra time with him after school and really went above and beyond for him. As parents we were so very grateful to be blessed with getting such a caring and compassionate teacher. We look forward to many more successful years with the school.
Great staff! My kids love going to school and are doing so well. There is a great environment for the kids with no bullying going on. The upper grades interact very well with the younger grades. Students are very respectful and are treated with respect and are shown how to be responsible for their own actions.
San Tan Learning Center has been a great place for my 6 year old daughter. She had an amazing teacher last year in Kindergarten, and first grade has brought another very promising teacher. I LOVE the healthy food rule after going to a preschool with cupcake parties at every kid's birthday. The kids get gym everyday, music twice a week, library once a week (with a wonderful book collection), and Art Masterpiece once a month. The school yard is a little lacking in the fun department, but it is a safe place for the kiddos to get their energy out (with covered areas). I like that they have a gifted program and that kids are grouped with those of like academic skills. Parents are encouraged to volunteer and really be a part of the school. I would definitely recommend San Tan Learning Center.
To be honest I have had my ups and downs with the school. The middle of last year I left and put my child in higley public school and what a reality check I got. I will admit I am a helicopter mom I Hover over my child. I am his biggest advocate and I am not afraid to jump in when needed. San tan learning always addressed my issues but my ego created me to leave and because of that my child suffered the consequences. The public school could not give my child nearly what stlc could. My child was one of thousands in higley school district at san tan he as just the one when something was needed. The superintendent cares for his school he has a personal emotional investment in it. I used to think it was a bad thing but now looking back after what my child has been through I realize that it is amazing that he invest so much of himself to make sure every child at his school gets a fair honest shot at a great education. After seeing what else is around here I will never give my child anything less by putting him back in higley school district. San tan learning is where my son belongs and being a smaller school I don't have to worry about him falling behind and lost in the shuffle again.
My four children have grown academically, socially, and emotionally at San Tan Learning Center and San Tan Montessori! My children's self esteem, confidence, and independence are flourishing. I appreciate the well-rounded perspective on life my children are seeing modeled with an emphasis on the importance of making good choices and having integrity, participating in daily PE, and weekly music. The art masterpiece program is amazing-the art walk the parent volunteers hosted this year was spectacular and was a witness to my family that creativity is being cultivated and valued at San Tan! At the end of the day I want my kids to be able to tell me they felt loved and respected by all those around them and that their ideas and needs were listened to and responded to with optimism and thoughtful responsiveness-San Tan Learning Center provides this for my children so as a parent I can sleep at night knowing my children are in a safe and peaceful learning environment. If this is the type of school environment you are seeking for your family I would highly recommend San Tan Learning Center.
My children just finished up their school year with STLC and we continue to love the school. We have been here a few years now and each year my kids grow both academically and socially and are happy. To those who are upset about the field space, no sports programs, lab for younger kids, etc. - you know what they offer before you enroll your kids. To me, these things take a back seat to the education my kids get. My experiences with the principal both last year and this year have been phenomenal experiences, they both are very experienced and go the extra mile for everyone. The teachers are amazing. We love this school and look forward to many more years to come.
My student attends this school and we love it. The teachers are amazing and school leadership make decisions for what is good for the kids and are great with communicating to parents. I am in the classroom helping a lot and love that as well. I recommend this school! It is a gem.
I have three children that attend this school. There are so many things I like about this school. My children all have great teachers! Great teachers make a great school. In the half year that my children have been in the school they have all grown significantly academically. Each child has an individual learning plan to help both teacher and parent know where a child is struggling and how to help them. It also shows areas where a child is advanced and can be challenged more-which the teachers do! The school has a wonderful music and PE program. The office staff is friendly. Santan has a very good traffic flow program for dropping children off and picking them up. The school has a nice library! I am a picky parent and I have been very pleased with this school!
The special education department is the best! My child was struggling in school and was quickly identified. The testing was done in a timely manner and now my child is getting the help she needs. The special education and classroom teacher work together, there are weekly emails on my daughters progress, and San Tan tests all students quarterly so toy know where your child stands. The special education teacher has a child of her own with a disability so she understands what I am going through. I finally have hope for my daughter.
