My child started attending ALA in kindergarten and is now going into 3rd grade. He loves it. As a family, we've had a great experience with his teachers and the staff. The academics are accelerated and the atmosphere is encouraging and engaging, which are key for our family. I can't praise this school enough.
American Leadership Academy is a fantastic school. The curriculum is rigorous (a grade level ahead) and the teachers are loving.
If u are considering placing ur children into ALA. Here are some things u should know before u do. My daughter who is 6 was recently diagnosed with Autism this past September. I thought ALA would be a great school for my daughter bit it turns out it's been a nightmare. They are currently getting money for her from the State as an Autisic child, yet they don't have the resources or teachers to make sure she is getting her education. Most of the time she is just being watched by one teacher or another. She has been placed in 3 different schools in the district and all 3 have just shuffled her around like a basketball. rediculous.Having a child with special needs is difficult enough, but to constantly have these teachers moving her a round is a nightmare come true. I am just counting down the days til the end of the yr and praying that the public school will be able to take her next yr. This school is disorganized and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Great Environment for my children. Glad they have the opportunity to get a quality education and participate in sports. ALA gives the opportunity for everyone to be involved football, volleyball, cheer, dance team, cross country, basketball, soccer, baseball, track, and softball. Love that they can participate and get a good education.
What an incredible school!!! My rating comes from seeing a wide variety of education opportunities. I taught elementary school in a public classroom, volunteered in a free choice school, homeschooled my child for a few years, our child attended a homeschool/public school hybrid campus, and observed other charter schools. I have seen several approaches to learning and we are so pleased with ALA. No school is perfect...but I believe it is possible to find the right fit and placement for you or your family. ALA has become this for us. We enjoy the curriculum...it is solid! I have two children attending ALA and they are receiving quality learning. There are "no holes or gaps" in their learning. The homework always pertains to in-class instruction. The teachers so a great job balancing out the core subjects with enrichment activities as well. We have had incredible teachers at ALA! The administration is wonderful. We correspond frequently with the director and his replies are always returned promptly and professionally. He promotes an "open door" policy and is willing to meet with us whenever we need to. The overall climate at the school is positive, kind, and inviting. Thanks ALA!
Queen Creek HS, is great!! We moved to AZ from MT (we are a Military family) and after growing up in UT (no, I'm not LDS) I was terrified that my daughter would be treated like a second class citizen. I was so wrong! These teachers are the BEST! Yes, there are a lot of LDS students but my daughter has never been criticized over her beliefs. Yes, there are LDS teachers, not that they talk about it but doesn't it matter more on how much your child learns? My daughter has struggled in Math until being at ALA, she's doing excellent now! I would highly recommend this school to anyone who wants their child to be taken care of. They are pro-military, which is so great to have understanding staff supporting our families. I'm so glad that we found this school! For anyone fearing your child will be taught the LDS way (whichever way that is), Fear Not! I wouldn't have my daughter go to any other school but ALA!
Great teachers in such a wholesome environment for kids. Especially loved Mr. Anthony Wright as his unique teaching style had the kids wanting to learn and enjoying school. I wish he could be my daughters teacher every year!
Excellent school. I feel very good sending my child here and know he is in good hands and getting an excellent education.
I want to post back to the parent about the LDS issues. You are definitely correct and I would recommend you getting out of that school. My boys were kicked out of school 2 weeks before the year was over and were given W's for the entire school year and our community school had to do assesments so they could have grades. My son has Aspergers and they were failing him in every subject. The SPED teacher was not kind to my son because he wouldn't talk. They said he was emotional distrubed even though he has a diagnosis from a very highly regarded clinic they claimed they didn't feel he had Aspergers and he was just ED and and couldn't come back until he was clinically evaluated. Since leaving ALAL- he has all a's and b's and just scored the 2nd highest in Math on Galileo and Social Studies which ALA determined he was incapable of being taught. They forced me to withdraw my other son or they would expell him for minor things like throwing rocks at a fence and arguing over whether he was out at 4 square. My step daughter over heard them talking in the office that they were trying to remove as many kids as they could so they could get the LDS kids in that were on the waiting list.
I am concerned about the strong LDS (Mormon) influence in the school. My daughter is registered at the ALA High School and most of her classmates are Mormon. We are not Mormon. My daughter has been told by several of her Mormon classmates that she is not a true Christian and she will not go to the highest heaven and live with God. I strongly feel that since ALA is a PUBLIC charter school that such conversations should be discouraged. I also feel that since the director and much of the staff is LDS, my daughter will be overlooked because she does not fall into their beliefs. I also asked who founded the school and where the money came from to build the school, but was told that was private information. I have since learned from a few of the LDS parents that members of the LDS church donated money to build the school. I am very concerned that my child or any child that is not LDS will not receive fair treatment at the school and that too much of the LDS doctrine will be influenced in both the curriculum and in the school's policies.
The new format of self-contained classrooms for the middle school grades at the Gilbert campus has been a refreshing change. The teachers for 7th & 8th grade are fantastic. I also have 2 other children in 2nd and 4th grade, and the teachers are wonderful. The curriculum meets state standards and beyond. They kids come home excited about what they are learning, and I;m amazed at the depth of their knowledge and recall. Thanks ALA!
DO NOT ENROLL your child in the new ALA High School in Queen Creek. I had my child in the Gilbert Campus the year before and was pleased with how the teachers and principal handled situations and communicated with the parents. The high school is the complete opposite. The principal won't call you and instead has the counselor call you. They have a student handbook that they refuse to follow and instead dish out punishments as they please. Several of my son's friends have already left the school and we are only 2 months in. We are putting our son back in public school, at least they have to follow protocol.
I enrolled three of my children this year. My son loves the high school, and my other two have really loved the Gilbert campus. I'm thrilled with the schools!
very disappointing!!!! believe the reviews are there for a reason as well as the low academic rating. Also, question the affiliation by which they received their special recognitions - if they were actually earned or jst handed to them for other reasons. If you dig, you will discover there may be a little more to it.
Hoping this change is the right change. I took my kids out of Ben Franklin to come to ALA. I hope I don't regret it.
i love it my child has been there for 6 year and no problems yet to have
Im coming from a public school to ALA this year for sports. I did not feel like I had an opportunity at the school i came from. My friend told me he was leaving a public school to go to ALA for sports also. So the next morning i checked out their practice. Since its their first year of sports they were new to the stuff. I most likely will attend this school and wanting to take my football and wrestling career to the next level. If i stay at my old school i wouldnt have that chance but here, i have a feeling i will. Lets see how the year goes!
This school is wonderful! My son was in another traditional school for kinder and 1st grade and he absolutely hated it! My son now loves school because he gets to learn history, science, and art (Core Knowledge). The other school did not really teach these subjects for several more years. Plus, he had one of the best teachers I have ever met! We were also impressed with the Covey Leadership program. I recommend this school to anyone who wants a well rounded education for their children. You will not be disappointed!
Ah, i meant 'a good prep for college' education. Sorry about that. Im tired today. :$
I love American Leadership Academy! I have three children that attend and a fourth this fall. My kids are happy and enjoy attending this school. They are challenged but not overwhelmed. They have homework but not overloaded. They have had opportunities to step out of their comfort zone with new leadership skills. Thanks ALA! You are the BEST!!!
