My school is committed to providing the supports children need to succeed educationally. The staff and administration also support an inclusive environment and encourage all students to support each other. The school offers several self-contained classes, resources services, counseling, and a full range of related services. Most importantly the school also offers an unified PE class where special needs kids are matched with typical kids who have been through training. This program has helped create a much more inclusive environment at the school. Our school could improve if the community had passed the override which would have funded the programs necessary for our children's education.

This is our first year at MJHS and I'm very pleased. My son has done so well, he's getting good grades, participating in sports and band, and loves going here. I especially like that the kids are "transitioned" from 6th grade with a half day field trip where they tour the campus and have lunch. I'm sure it goes a long way towards making them feel comfortable when they start 7th grade there.

Mesquite Middle School The teachers are Mesquite Middle School are all competent and caring teachers. Whenever I emailed them with a question they got back to me right away. They have high expectations of students. I really like their PRIDE program. Before coming to this school, my son was really disorganized. The PRIDE program gets middle school kids ready for high school by teaching them much needed organizational skills. His last school gave him a planner and told him to write down his homework, and of course, that never happened. Mesquite Middle School has the students use the school's PRIDE Planner. It has ample space for students to write homework and classwork assignments down. The catch to getting my son to finally write down his homework? The teachers must initial that the student did in fact write down classwork and homework assignment. The students are not allowed to move on to their next class until it's initialed. There is also appropriate consequences associated with leaving the Planner at home. I feel like my son will use a planner or calendar agenda book next year in high school thanks to Mesquite Middle School's program. Submitted by a parent

I am a 7th grader at Mesquite Junior High. All of my teachers are great. They all helped me with anything I needed. I felt comfortable with all of them. If something didn't seem right with my grade, it was easy to go up to them and ask about it. They would always explain why I got the grade that I got, or fix a mistake that they made. Not only that, but all the teachers care about the students personal lives as well. They all help me get to where I am with 4.286 grade average!!!

Didn't care for this school. Our son had special needs and we feel like he really got lost in this school. Its also very "ghetto"-a lot of gang and drug issues even in 7th grade. Happy to be out.

Great school. I'm currently a 7th grader there. My teachers are great except a few. Love playing sports there and traveling on the bus to play soccer at the other schools. Pretty tough school, but way better and a bigger difference than elementary school.

This school is certainly not the best I have seen. The students have very little homework and do not even have to study at home. The school campus looks nice but the education is bad. The students do not even understand the concept of going home and working on school work. Gilbert Classical Academy is way better. The students there know what they are doing.

I am currently an 8th grader at MJHS. It is a great school. The teachers are nice(mostly all exept a few). I have a lot of great, good, and close friends there. We always have a fun great time there. Our sports are excellent. We are exellent in mostly every sport. I am a cheerleader there, and its sio much fun. Its sad that this is my last year at MJHS, but this school is really great and fun:):):)

I graduated from MJHS in 07. Must I say, it was the best years of my school life so far! As I am currently a student a MHS. I have all likes about this school, with very few dislikes. Teachers AWESOME! Most Teachers here actaully care about students academic and private lives, which is VERY rare in such a big town like gilbert! In my 8th grade year, there was controversy at MJHS because of two teachers (those of you students remember hearing how the office doesn't want the teachers talking to Mr. Izzet, they only want them talking to Mr. Yee). Overall I loved everything about MJHS except how most of the Office Admin were very snappy at ALL students and most teachers. Junior high so far has been the best years of my life!

im an 8th grade student here and this school is okay.. the teachers are iffy some are supper strict im not say whoo but if you go there you know who the meanest is and we all would agree on that haha but then there are the supper nice teachers like Ms Evans, Mr, Moeller Ms Blasdale ect that are nice. the construction i guess is okay they really didnt add a whole lot just like this tunnel part and the new spirit store nothing special. but they did get rid of portables!! but what is the best is after winter break we had new computers no more slow macs new like widescreean huge monitor PC's amd WIFI!!! i think think thats the best part the computers and wifi way better than the constuction. but to the person who said they have no dress code.they do..its harsh ive been dresscoded befoere

I am an eighth grade student at MJHS and I really love this school! There are tons of clubs that you can join and the staff are very friendly. Plus, now that the construction is coming to a close the campus looks great, and I definetly think that all of that construction was worth it!

This school is a great school for the students, if not the parents. They have fun activities, sports, and I think the teachers are great. As a student from MJHS, I rate it above average.

Over all I'd have to say the 'Education' level is O.K. Some teachers a bit too liberal (Al Gore in Science is not science) I think someone should have considered closing it while under construction! What a mess, and for the life of me someone needs to enforce a dress code. Whatever happened to teachers and students taking a little pride in their apperance? At 12-13-14 these are still 'Kids' and need some good examples/role models for their future. I think most of the teachers there are just pulling down a paycheck, only 2 ever made any comments about my son, either negative or positive, and he is a 3.85 student. And only 1 sent out e-mail grades. Come on people this is the 21st century!

I was very disappointed with this school and had the feeling the faculty and primarily the administration would rather not be bothered by anything other than the normal standard 'things' involving students and their education.

The band program at MJHS is outstanding. Mr. Fay, the band director, is challenging, fun, knowledgable, and professional. It is a full credit, unlike some districts.

This school has been great for my daughter who has been a past habitual truant. They have done everything they can to help keep her in school. I moved to Gilbert just to get into this school.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
