Nice elementary school right next door to a large park. Nice neighborhoods all around with most students walking to school. Excellent teachers and high motivated administrators
My child is currently a 7th grader at this school. I can not express enough how frustrating it has been for my child. The horrible bulling that goes on at this school is ridiculous. I have been in constant contact with teachers, counselors and the principals. Nothing has changed and its extremely frustrating when your kid doesn't want to be there and she and other kids suffer emotionally and academically because of a few others. It's not safe, and the staff is not proactive when a parent raises concerns. I am moving my child because in the end my child is my responsibility!
My child attend Horizon since kinder, my child is now in the 8th grade. I dont like Glendale School District at all. Classes are over filled, under staffed. Communication with teachers and parents is mostly impossible. Try charter or private over GUSD
My 3rd grade son is my 3rd child to attend this school. I can't say enough good things about the school in it's entirety, - from Principal, Ms. Gardner, - thru the many Teachers and Staff I have dealt with over the years. They have a no-nonsense and pro-active attitude toward education and excel at communication with the parent. Kudos to all at Horizon!
Horizon school is focused on the students they serve and dedicated to a well rounded curriculum, challenging academics, extra curricular activities, and a safe caring campus. At Horizon you will see a balance of project and product focused assignments as well as paper and pencil assignments. In the primary grades students must meet leveled reading requirements and fluency requirements or be retained. Many middle school students take advanced math classes at Apollo High School while still @ Horizon. After school opportunities include: math and reading tutoring in all grades, guitar classes, drama, chess, tons of sports for girls and boys, and an on campus extended day program! Students particpate in an annual talent shows, field days, PE nights, band concerts, art shows, career nights, science fairs, and more... The Horizon PTA is outstanding at supporting school needs and having functions such as Great Skate Night or Family Dance Nights. Horizon is an amazing school because of the amazing families and staff that pull it together for the kids. If you want to work together to create a caring, academically challenging, diverse school come on down!
I was a student at horizon school. Last year was my last year and that school is amazing!
I have found Horizon to provide challenging academics, some after school tutoring, a variety of sports opportunities, chess club, etc. They have a dedicated and caring staff that motivates students to learn and to do projects and to apply their learning. It is a wonderful school.
This is my children's second year at Horizon. They were required due to redistricting to move from Sine. I am not impressed, although this school has higher test scores, I do not feel my two children are learning more. I wish they could go back to Sine.
Overall its public education at its best! overcrowded, underfunded, great staff, large campus with great facilities I have 2 enrolled K program is great, 4th grade special ed lacking the focus to relize how specialneeds children are individual and cannot be taught like the general public each has its own dissability learning, speech, phisical, mental, or all need special education for the individaul also support services are lacking from uneducated staff to underfunding the therapys services. they try.
Horizon is an excellent school, providing a good education to my children
This school is in a good location for those who walk. it is not on a main roadway and the school crossing guards work diligently to provide safety to our children. The cafeteria food and the kitchen could use improvement.
Horizon has been a wonderful educational environment for our daughter. She is in the gifted program and has always had teachers who challenge her. There are quite a few after school activities and festivals that bring in family involvement. The PTA is very active in school improvement.
I'm a parent of a student at Horizon School. She has had nothing but academic problems and problems with being bullied since the third grade. The school takes the position that the kids should work out their own issues. I have spoken with other Horizon parents and found that 6 families have opted to transfer their children out of Horizon due to both academic reasons and the school's lack of discipline in regards to peer abuse.
This school has been a big disappointment. It is probably fine for most kids, but our eighth grader needs accelerated learning opportunities which have not been available.
The 7/8 grade teachers have a wonderful atmosphere for students to thrive and succeed. It is a positive environment with a mixture of researched based teaching techniques blended with classroom proven methods. Combined(4) teaching experience over 75 years. Staff includes 2004 Gifted Teacher of the Year, two teachers with administrative degrees, and one teacher working toward a PhD.
I'm a parent of 4 kids that have gone to Horizon. I've been involved with Horizon for over 10 years and continue to be. My biggest complaint is the lack of discipline. I think the classes are overcrowed and a lot of the teachers lack the ability to discipline and follow up with problem students. I even had to move one of my children to another school because of the continued hassle my child was receiving.
Wow! What dedicated, educated staff! Horizon is overflowing due to the integrity of the staff and administration at this site. They care about every child. They have an excellent gifted program, after school activities include drama, basketball, tutoring, chess, homework club and more!
There is a new principle this year so things may change. They have trouble with bullying and name calling and the teachers don't do enough to stop or prevent it. They think the kids should ""work"" it out themselves or they just calling it ""being kids"". I don't agree with their philosphy, that is why my child does not go to school there anymore.
