When our children attended here(2008-2010) there was problems from the top all the way down. Bullying was a big problem, even coming from some of the teachers that crossed my kids path. I requested their teachers and they were great! They took the time needed for my kids and we talked often about progress. If you are military and Vice Principle Johnson is still there be aware that he is ret. and is friends with some "top" people on base and will use that to his distruction. (Trying to get your unit commandors info. to get you from the work side of things) This is what happened to us when I stood up to them and put in complaints about them with the district. We were smart though...was done on advice from my husbands chain of command. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a school. As for my kids they have now been active about speaking out against bullys and other things they went through at this school. They are loving there new school and even though they are about 2 grade levels behind in just about everything due to different standards and other factors they are holding their own. I would reccomand Connections Academy if you are stuck in that area.
PART 2 Mrs Suarez is new to the school n you can so tell. She came from a totally different district, is just what the kids need if they are lucky enough to be into her class. She goes out of her way to help the students. She is there early n tutors. She gives assignments that other teachers dont have to in order to push and challenge students. I was sad that I had to remove my kids from her class as they loved her! My reason for writing this is hopefully if u r able to take your kids some where else DO IT if not as I know many have no other choice, just be involved. Dont ever think the teachers are always telling the truth or right believe your kid. listen to them as they know and see all. Again I worked inside Luke, I was a parent and I volunteered for MANY years... after 3 years at this school I had seen and heard enough. Also the office staff are a joke. They sit and use the internet for personal use, they are always having parties and all in the lunch room, they gossip SO MUCH you have no idea. They talk about parents and kids to others n they just dont know how to run a school. The principal ought to work in a jail or prison n stop running this ELEMENTARY SCHOOL like one!
This school has only one recess per day which is 15 mins long and falls immediately before lunch which is also 15 mins long. If the students are slow in lining up it cuts into their lunch time. My son is in second grade and they take recess with the eighth graders which behavioral issue arrise and rub off or include bullying of the younger children. Teachers don't seem to care when a student doesn't "get" a lesson and move on. And as far as Principal Meier goes, I'm not so sure she even exists. She has yet to return a single phone call we have left regarding our concerns.
Children fall through the cracks at this school. Teachers/School does not offer any additional help to students who NEED it. There is no interest on the teachers end to do any extra work with the students to help with any area they struggle with. Very sad to see the lack of interest this school has to make sure the students succeed.
My son has been attending Luke since Kindergarten and is now in the 5th grade. Unfortunately, I have had problems with his teachers since the beginning, but didn t have a choice but to continue to allow my son to attend this school. After an incident with his teacher this year and meeting with both the principle and vice principle, without question I have taken my son out of the school. Parents, please be warned about how inappropriate the teacher s questions are to 10 year olds. Furthermore, be cautious when dealing with complete morons as principles/vice principles. They are completely rude, fowl, pompous, inappropriate human beings! It is a shame that the Principle Mayer and Vice Principle Johnson are who is leading the school! I DO NOT advise ANY parent to allow their child to attend this horrid school. If you truly care for your child you will find another school!
School so far seems good to go. I have had me disapointments but so far so good.
My son has attended Luke from K-2 and overall I do like Luke. However, I don't like that there are no field trips and I do know other schools within the District are having them so this is not a District wide policy. I think the academic side of Luke is very good and I am pleased with it. It's just the extra curricular parts that need some improving. Parent involvement also needs a boost. I believe that low parent involvement may have to do with the distance that many families live from Luke. 5 miles on average. With high gas prices and a bad economy I believe that it's offten hard for parents to make PTA meetings and Site Council meetings. The school hours are kind of a problem too. Especially if your kids ride the bus.
My children as well as my nephew attend this school. The teachers for the most part arent bad. The principal however is a WHOLE other story. She doesnt listen to parent concerns and her personality is better suited for High School aged kids. She is rude. Also they Dysart School District in general is poorly ran. I am trying to transfer my children to Peoria Schools. Also another lady had written about favortism and I completely agree with that. There is one teacher in particular who does this to my nephew. I think they abuse the green, yellow, red chart instead of trying to help children.
We're new here and although my children seem to be adapting, this school is not my number one pick. I'm saddly disappointed at the lack of extra curriculum activities offered for lower grades, not to mention the lack of parent communication. I guess I just expect more than just text books. More hands on and growing experiences for the younger ones would be great.
I had 2 children attend this school. One graduated from Luke. I have to tell you my children attended other schools outside of the Dysart district and did well but my problems started when they attended Luke. A lot of favortism going on. I am not going to say all but some of the teachers there could care less about the students they have to spend a little extra time teaching. They would rather label them and leave them behind. After my daughter graduated i let my son go there one more year and snatched him out so quickly i couldnt take it anymore i felt powerless.. With all the meetings and even got my husband involved with the principle i knew i had to do something. My son now attends a private school which he was on the honor roll three quarters of the year and participates more!
