Meet the Teacher night 2014-15 was a success, I think. Last yeat, we definitely had to wait outside while the P and VP came down the line and greeted parents. That was probably a just a bad judgment call, as it was steaming out. This year, Ms. Ellis had a better set up; the line flow to go in the building was non stop, as she stood and held the door open to greet students and their families. Also, the class lists were posted in EVERY hallway, both up and downstairs, which made it convenient for parents and students. The only suggestion I would make is maybe moving the 'questions and concerns' parents had for the front office to the Gymnasium where there is more room and less congestion.

Meet the teacher night as usual is a joke. Waiting outside in 108 degree weather & it all thanks to our principal who feels informing the students & parents ahead of time would cause her more parents wanting to switch classes. Instead we are forced to stand outside & wait. This school has so much room for improvement.

To respond to the just posted previous parent. The Meet The Teacher Night started at 5:30. If you get there early, you have to wait. Possibly the principal was letting the teachers put the finishing touches on their rooms to be ready for Meet The Teacher Night at 5:30. I have had many children go through the Avondale District and every year it has been the same. Nothing different was done by this principal.

This school is VERY disappointing. This is the second year my family has attended the school. With the exception of a few phenomenal teachers, the focus is not in the interest of the child. I have heard teachers yell and speak very rude toward students. The principal is very unprofessional. The front office lacks better judgement and common sense and is very rude to parents. This school is very prison like and the children only see outdoors for ten minutes during the day, which is the only recess given in a 7 1/2 hour day. Their test scores are extremely low and they don't offer much to their gifted students. They have very poor special education support and it takes a long time to get results and answers. There is very little interest in productive fundraising that is not centered around fast food or processed foods. No recycling or sustainability. Poor communication. If it weren't for a specific exceptional teacher this year we would have changed schools. We don't plan on attending this school next year and would not recommend this school to anyone looking for a quality education for their children.

My one daughter has been going to this school since the day they opened. We loved the school then, but over the years I feel it started dropping as most of the good teachers have left. Staff we enjoyed communicating with have also since left. I feel like they are quickly falling apart which is such a shame considering what a nice neighborhood the school is in. In regards to someone posting that it's like a prison...I completely disagree. I feel my children are safe at this school. I have taken my younger two out of this school and they now go to the charter school and are excelling! My 8th grader wanted to stay there and we chose to let her but halfway thru the year felt it was such a mistake! One of her teachers even got crazy with me for defending my daughter and was extremely rude right in front of my daughter. This teacher will talk on her phone in class and tell the kids stories about her family and then complain that she doesn't have enough time to teach the kids!!! I hate to say it, but there are so many better schools you can take your kids to. Please consider not taking them to Copper Trails. Get them a better education at Incito or anywhere else...

We chose to move to Goodyear because Copper Trails wad an A rated school. My children went from private school to Copper Trails, and their education and growth has seen a major set back. The teachers don't have good attendance records, some teachers leave in the middle of the academic year, the school employs students to teach and hide this fact by having a different teacher of record listed for the room, etc. There is no structured curriculum. Teachers don't have a consistent style and the kids are not learning anything. And the school is so understaffed that it can't keep track of children and has to have combo classes where they mix students of different grades. The school administration is inexperienced. There isn't one positive quality that this school has. It's sad that parents do not have a choice in most cases and our kids must continue to attend the school.

Copper Trails looks and feels like a prison. My children attend Copper Trails and this school is terrible. They have a new receptionist that is rude and unfriendly. The new principle dresses and speaks very unprofessional. The education program is not what it should be; my child has not learned anything as of yet and they claim to be following the common core standards. If you look at the AIMS score it is nothing to brag about. There is not much parent involvement in the school. I have been here a couple of years and I am so sad that I can't get my children out of this school fast enough. STAY AWAY and go to a school that actually teaches their students.

We have a kindergartener at Copper Trails this year. So far Im not too impressed. The teacher seems not engaged and not very friendly. She appears to have a hard time communicating with parents. My daughter loved going to preschool and now it is a constant battle to get her going to school. I observe the teacher in the morning rarely greet the children in line and if she does she will greet specific kids and has yet to acknowledge mine or the end of the line since school has started. The lack of communication between myself and the teacher has me frustrated. Emails are rarely returned, she has yet to start to have parents volunteer in the class. When asked how my daughter is doing I get one sentence answers and I feel clueless of what really happens in the classroom. Do not think Ill return for my daughters 1st grade year.

We have a first grader and a kindergartner. I have to say I am very pleased with our kindergarten teacher. He is amazing, has the kids so involved using musical instruments, stuffed animals, songs and dance. He works with every child's needs and goes above and beyond to be sure they are met. Our first grade experience, very taken aback by the lack of communication through emails, even face to face with my daughters teacher. The amount of homework assigned is over the top! I feel that the first graders needs are not individually met and it seems to be a sink or swim operation. My daughters classroom environment seems cold and unwelcoming when I enter, she's has said her teacher is very strict and "not very nice". Although I can say the communication with her teacher has improved ( she's returning emails) hoping the year improves.We had such an amazing kinder year this far for both my kids I'm hoping we just have a fluke teacher this year for my daughter. The front office staff, although nice, fails to check I.d's. Unfortunately this day and age I feel they need to take the extra step and ID volunteers and early parent pickup , before relaeasing our children.

I am sad to say we bought a house in this area and we were hoping for a good school for our son. It has been very disappointing. My son had 3 teachers last year and multiple subs. How is a child supposed to learn with so much distraction and inconsistency. This school has a high turn over and is poorly run. The teachers I've come across could care less about the children and I am not sure why they went into teaching. Now there is a new vice principal and principal this year. They don't seem like they know what they are doing. Wish we could move. These West valley schools are horrible. They went from A rating to a B due to low test scores last year.

I am very upset with this school and disappointed with the staff and teachers. We have had on going problems with bullying and getting help with work when it isn't understood. My child is struggling in a subject and like the other parent said the teacher doesn't take time to work with her/him just sends her/him out of the class to another room. I am pulling my child and will not allow my next child to start there. There is hardly any follow through and when things are followed through its because we have gone higher up to get a response. The Asst. Principal is wonderful and Mrs. Brackin(but she is leaving) from 8th.

I'm very disappointed in this school. We chose our home because of the location and how close to the then "newer" school we were. We've been here three years and I'm honestly looking into other schools for the following school year. The classes are too full that your child gets lost in the crowd. Too many of the teachers are paper pushers and don't really care about the students. We've had only one teacher in the three years that went above and beyond to help kids that struggle in different areas and that teacher has since relocated. We did have a student teacher in one classroom, my child's grades improved with that additional help, since that student teacher left the grades have fallen. It takes several emails to get any kind of response from teachers. The excellent band teacher we had left for another school. One teacher on staff favors the students that are hispanic, she would basically ignore the other students. I heard from one mom that her son was always in detention for assignments not being completed on time, so for most of the year he wasn't allowed outside. Lastly, the student drop off at the school is a nightmare, there is not one teacher out in the morning to help.

Copper Trails is a great school with dedicated staff. The administration is very involved and the teachers work hard with what they are given by the district to make learning fun for the kids. I think that every school probably has teachers who are still learning how to be amazing but that doesn't mean the whole school is that way. I have had mostly positive experiences at this school and I'm happy to say that my kids love going to school here!

My 3 children have spent 1 year at this school and so far I am a happy parent! They all had wonderful teachers! The teachers really seem to care about each student and go over and above! I have had several meetings with the principal, counselor, and teacher regarding my youngest son who had some difficulty with behavior this past year and I thought they were great! Very supportive of the teachers, the students, and me as a parent! I love it when I see a school where they dont brush things under the rug and they take time to work on issues! I love to see a school that takes time to discipline properly! It makes it a much more pleasant place! I am sad that he has moved and will not be there this comming year but fingers crossed that we will get a good principal to take his place!

Copper Trails is an outstanding school with great leadership. The larger class sizes and "specials" every six weeks is due to budget cuts and is like this throughout the district and is not only isolated to Copper Trails. The leaders of this school welcome and encourage parent involvement. Every school has a bad teacher. I think my child had the bad teacher last year but it does not change my feelings about CT.

Being a military family we've been exposed to many schools, some good, some bad, some horrible. This school is average. My children are now in their third year at this school. Whereas, most of the teachers are great, there are a few that are not. The school only offers "specials" on a rotating basis, meaning two-weeks classes every six weeks. Among these specials is PE. I find this a bit concerning as our children nations' children are continually becoming more and more inactive and over-weight. The classes are over crowded which makes learning and teaching difficult. Library time is also a concern. It is not offered as a regular part of schooling, but rather only if teachers allow and students are interested. Of course, with all the time spent sitting and reading text books and "dittos" in the class, most children have no interest in the library. Very few "hands on" activities are offered. Most lessons are taught through reading and being read to in class. Teachers here love homework packets, and the school seems more concerned with scores/ratings than fostering a well-rounded child with positive self-esteem. Sad, but true.

Our daughter is finishing Kindergarten at Copper Trails and we have been very happy with this school. It has a new and very involved principal and the school events are well attended by families and faculty. We also have been very impressed with the curriculum and how much our daughter has learned this year. She is way above grade level and we feel a big part of that was her excellent teacher. She also loves school and can't wait to go to first grade and we are looking forward to many years at this school.

This school is horrible. I had a concern regarding one of my child's teachers, and I talked to the principal regarding it. In turn, the teacher confronted my child regarding me contacting the principal. I have also made a complaint with the Board of Education. I am a very involved parent, and the leaders of this school do not like that.
