Part Two: Kids get benched at lunch for talking for 10, 15, or even the entire 30 minutes for lunch. Not every child is going to have beautiful writing so degrading them does not encourage them to want to do better. I have helped with activities and I have seen my share of unethical procedures from some of the staff, administraters, and the owner as well. While Crown does show great test scores you need to be VERY involved with your child at this school and listen to the things they tell you. One of my children has been bullied by the same kid for 2 years now and on more than one occasion I have been forced to step in and take action. Kids playing four square in class, balls being thrown accross the classroom while other children are still tring to complete their packets for the day..and the teacher does nothing. BE CAREFUL at this school. Do not believe everything you hear. If your child was doing well someplace else and starts to struggle here there IS something else going on.
Look at the aims scores. Compare to other schools. People complain about art and PE. They are their to learn to read and write not art. My kids excel well beyond ds in the same grade at other schools. I noticed a lot of other reviews on petty issues. The aims scores say it all
I pulled my kids out put in a real A+ rated school to find out how behind they were. Sure they are teaching "advanced" math and reading but there is NO science, history, or. There is no teacher parent communication. My final straw was when a father of a boy in my sons class approached my son at one of those functions I just mentioned and said " Hey you, why don't you leave my son alone". Scared out of his mind my son ran away from the man. When calling to school to notify them of the harassment I was told they would talk to him and still to this day almost 3 months later never heard a thing more.I had begged in writing and verbally for 2 years for help for my daughter as she was struggling in reading and spelling. She had two tutor sessions that was just a spelling test review.she was tested at her new school and was reading & writing at 40% of her level!Just keep passing her even though she clearing isnt where she needs to be. My son was one of the top performers in his class when he left and scored 70% of his level .There is always such a high turn around rate of teachers too Both of my kids had new teachers within a couple months off school starting and every year
To the parents saying there is no parents allowed in campus for volunteering, I know that's not true. I get flyers sent home with my child on a regular basis asking for parent volunteers for all sorts of special occasions. They also have told me that if I ever would like to see how my child is in class, they have cameras set up in every room for added security and observations. Honestly I like the fact that you can't come strolling on campus whenever you like...safer in my opinion. My child is doing very well in class, she reads, writes, and does math at levels I didn't do until I was in 4th grade. Amazing academics. The only downfall is I wish there were extracurricular activities such as sports teams or clubs and I do feel that there is a communication block with teachers, but the lady up front always helps out with any problems. Otherwise, its great. Oh and before you write a bad review on a school, you should probably make sure YOUR spelling and grammar is correct. It doesn't look so good on your part. I have NEVER seen the police at the school. If they were there, my child would have said something for sure, if the school didn't notify parents first.
This schoold does an outstanding job focusing on your child's education! I was very happy with the level of education my son and daughter received. My son is now in all honors classes in his middle school. Out of convenience my daughter now attends Palm Valley Elementary . Next year she will be returning to Crown....she is regressing at PVE. At the end of 1st grade at Crown my daughter could read at the 4th grade level and was able to do mulitiplication. Right now at PVE they are doing the work she did as a Kindergarter an Crown. Not too mention I love that Crown only asks for the parent participation. All they want is your time! They only ask for supplies for your son or daughter. They do not send home a bunch of flyers with your child advertising businesses. There is no need for a PTA because they staff and teachers do a very good job communicating with the parents directly! Good job Crown....we will see you next year!
If you care about your kids keep them away Crown School. They just care about having more students; more students, more money. The administration is awful, the teachers are not aloud to maintain a good contact with parents. No email, no phone number, and just one parent- teacher conference a year. Some teachers are not highly qualified. The owner of the School is rude with the staff and students. I saw her once yelling to a teacher in front of the students, and also grabbing and pulling a kid arm. They always have issues with the police related to students. They love to punish students for anything. The curriculum doesn't have enough Science and Social Studies. There is no PE, art or music. The school doesn't follow the AZ core Standards when they are supposed to. It is a complete mess. It looks ok, but the reality is different.
Crown School is excellent and is an A grade school by ADE. All 4 of my children attend this school from 1st grade to 6th grade. This school is a God send to us. Family values are promoted. My husband and I are both involved with the school and volunteer as often as we can. All the staff and adm are very friendly and everyone really cares about the children. My kids love it here and they read so well. My oldest son is so inspired that he does research on his own without being told and that inspiration is a direct result from this school. I am very proud to be a part of this wonderful school. I recommend it to everyone. I am here a lot and I am outgoing to all other parents too. We have fun here. Some of us parents go to breakfast together on a regular basis. Great school.
This is a terrible school to put your kids in. The only reason I kept my son in here because this is the only school that he can go since he didn't turn 5 yet by Sep. 1st. There is no communication what so ever with the teachers. They are mean but if you complain then your kids will be suffered. The only thing they are good is sending you a reminding notice if they don't see your money first day of the month. I was so frustrated with this school and was so glad that my kid finally got out of this horrible school
Academically this school is above average so I give them kudos for that. Unfortunately when you have a child who has behavioral issues related to a medical problem things become a bit sketchy. They have no problem sending home negative character reports, however when you try to get your child medical help they do not report the truth on forms asked to be filled out by the doctors. They do not approve of any behavioral medications for children. We have wasted endless hours trying to take our child to different doctors, psychologists, etc. with little help due to the schools reluctance to do the right thing. Integrity and honesty is important. If you state our child has issues, please don't try to be the doctor and figure them out. That would be practicing medicine without a license which is against the law. If a child has asthma or diabetes, I am sure they would not withhold treatment. The negative stigma associated with behavioral issues is unfortunate and unnecessary. We will be doing the right thing, and giving our child the chance she deserves. Unfortunately, we will have to take our child out of this school in order to get her the help she needs.
If you love your children, don't let them go to this school. I have written commets on here about what happened to my child and they keep taking them off because it's the truth and they don't want parents to know. I saw it with my own what happened in the class with my own eyes not only to my child but to others in his class regarding the pricipal. She is two-faced and fake and verbally abusive. I've written letters to the educational board and the charter board but of course nothing has been done. Don'ty take your child to this school.
Try Legacy Traditional...don't know how far away you are but they are at El Mirage and Van Buren. Love this school. We went to Crown for 3 years and were happy there but if you are not check out Legacy.
Parents, run away from this school as far as possible! My son started kinder this year and it has only been two months and I am ready to pull my hair out from disappointment. I am currently looking for a new school. Don't make a mistake, keep your child away from here.
My experience with Crown is that they teach with very specific methods. These methods are very successful and my daughter is way above students her own age(and older). It seems reasonable that once a child leaves Crown School there is a chance that their new school will teach a concept a totally different way. I would guess that the change in teaching methods could cause ALOT of confusion. If a child is confused they are lost. We must think of this before we talk against the school. They have done wonders both academically and behaviorally with my children and I commend them for that.
I encourage all parents to trust your instincts and do not put your children in this school. My child went to this school for more than a year and since he's been in a new school his grades have declined. I thought to myself, how this could be, he practically got straight A's at Crown. They even showed me a copy of his aims test which indicated he was doing well. I am very disappointed and have no idea how much money it s going to cost me to get him to the level he should be performing. I am not only disappointed in them, but my self. I should have done something sooner because there were signs that something wasn t right and I didn t question it enough. You might ask why I kept him in the school for so long. There were 3 reasons all of which I m not pleased with. 1) He came home with good grades and excelled in multiplication. 2). I didn t want to take him from his peers. 3). It was for convenience; the school start time was good and aftercare was cheap. Although these may appear to be reasonable explanation they were not good enough because now my child needs extra help.
I had my daughter here in kinder. What a mistake. You are not allowed on campus to volunteer during class so you really have no way of knowing how your child is progressing. Needless to say my daughter's report card reflected she was doing amazing. I took her to a public school for first grade and found out she was falling far behind in math and reading! It took my daughter a full year to catch up to the other children. She is now a straight A third grader, but parents beware! If you care about your child's education, send them elsewhere.
My Grandson attended Crown last year for first grade and ALWAYS came home with wonderful report cards stating he was doing an excellent job! Thankfully his parents placed him in another school for second grade. Imagine our dismay when in the first quarter of 2nd grade his grades in math and reading were failing! Seems he developed dyslexia this summer. Hum...is that possible? I don't think so. I feel bad for him and I believe Crown did him a great injustice.
I was a kindergarten teacher at Crown a few years back and am not surprised at many of the negative reviews I read on this site; I, too, had a bad experience there and would not recommend this school to anyone. Parents, if you truly care for your children please do not send them to this school, there are better institutions of learning out there.
I was a kindergarten teacher for many years at Crown. Teachers do leave schools for many different reasons just like at any other school anywhere else. However, many EXCELLENT teachers will return morning after morning and put all their heart and an extraordinary effort into loving and teaching your child...Best wishes to the teachers, students and administration for a great school year...
Ok parents listen up. Lets get the record straight. Every parent who posts on here should own up to it if you're happy you're happy. If you are upset you're upset. If you can't sign your comments with your own name, then you have no business posting on a site like this and your arguments have no credibility. Personally, my child has excelled at Crown Charter. She is way ahead of the public schools. Crown Charter is a core academic school. They focus on the core academic foundations required. So what if that is what the AIMS are based on. Back in my day it was only about the reading writing and math. My child will continue till she graduates from Crown Charter. Ms. TC is a example in leadership in change for education. My daughter will be asuccess because of TC and her methods. The teachers at Crown are top notch. It may look like Crown goes through teachers, but if YOU own a business, and YOUR employee is not working to standards no matter how hard your work to train them, then you need to get rid of them. I am proud that Crown only takes on teachers who excell and want to make a difference with our kids today... Go Crown Bob Sheldon - PROUD Crown Parent
This is the best rating I can honestly give this school. We lasted 4 month with our children here. I work in education and I have never seen a more unprofessional administration. The previous comment "Disorganized Chaos" is right on. Phone calls are never returned. It seems that parents are purposly not included in their children education. Very sad! The place is dirty. They are poorly equipted and it shows. No school lunches. The cafateria is not cooled or heated. NO art, PE, Music at all. Its all academic. My kids did learn there. I give credit to the teachers for that but only that. This was a bad decision for us and glad its over!
