My family just arrived in Arizona not too long ago. As a military family, it is very important that when we settle in a new location, that we find the best school for our children. The first and only school that was recommended was Crown School. We have had our children there for about 2 months now and we can only say that we are more than thrilled with the curriculum and how our children are treated and respected at this school. We have even noticed a positive change in their attitudes towards school. The administrative staff greeted us and welcomed us to what they referred to as the "Crown School Family" and let us tell you, that it definitely feels that way!
Beware...teachers at this school may not even have college degrees. The acting "Principal" has little classroom experience, does not hold a Masters degree or AZ Administrative Certification. As a parent you have the RIGHT to review your child's teacher's personnel files, specifically for qualifications. In the state of AZ ALL teachers should be deemed, designated and certified as "Highly Qualified".
Unfortunately, I was employed as a teacher at this establishment for far too long. It is absolutely true that staff and students are berated and verbally abused by the administration on continued basis. In my lengthly career I had never experienced such a high teacher turn over rate. I admired those individuals that had the will to leave this school ASAP.
I find it interesting, but NOT surprising that this supposed #1 School performed rather poorly on the AZ MERIT exam. It is also highly suspect that the "glowing" reviews presented here are from Crown educators.
On another reputable site you can learn exactly how much this racket generates in per pupil revenue. AND how much they ACTUALLY spend on the children.
They DO NOT purchase any text books, quality, up-to-date research-based educational materials, or technology. The school furniture is all second-hand or discards. They do not implement any sort of viable curriculum.
Teachers are hired at a low wage WITHOUT benefits. I implore you... do your research on this one!!
This school expects all students to be perfect cookie cutter students. If your student has a learning disability they will not accommodate your student with a proper IEP. They do not believe in disabilities and are hard on students who are not perfect in every way. They teach a curriculum that is only one way and no other way. They often will shame a child who is struggling to learn things their way. Their teaching is unconventional. I would not recommend this school to anyone.
