I suspect my child has a bit of attention deficit disorder and the school has more than accommodated him by moving seats around, re-directing him and NOT shaming him. His 2nd grade teacher Ms. Becky used to say things such as "Eenie Meenie Miney...." and prompt my child to say "Mo!" Among other fun rhymes. Whatever they're doing is working for him.
The children have weekly spelling words 10 first grade, 15 second grade, 20 third grade and subsequent grades. Each week they must write the word neatly three times, find the synonym and antonym of the word (or 3 sentences if none are found). This is a total of 60 sentences and 60 spelling words written (for my third grader). On top of that the children have some math homework assignments, 2-3 to complete every week and reading as well. This is a generous amount of work to do, enough to build a good work ethic, yet not too much to discourage them.
