Great School!!! My daughter attended from 2nd thru 6th grade and now my son is in Kinder there. The staff is great. The principal and her staff are wonderfull. The school has been completely re done in the last year. It looks brand new. Plus they are putting all new technology into each classroom. My kids loved this school and the staff as well. That tells you something.
This school is a mess. Teachers are not supported and many yell. The yelling is destructive to the students' sense of worth and ability. I know too many kids who come home defeated from this school. I immediately pulled one when I realized the severity of the situation there. The general aids yell as well and bullying is not dealt with on the playground. There are some really great teachers, but unfortunately they are a minority. I would not recommended this school. Hopefully they get some help and guidance! The kids there have great potential which is not being reached!
My oldest child attended Roadrunner from kinder through sixth grade. His needs were more than met throughout his elementary school years. He was a high student in all subject areas and he was not only taught the standards, but he was also challenged on a daily basis. The Roadrunner teachers that my children have had have been ready to communicate with me and to include me in their classrooms. The main issue that I have seen at Roadrunner over the years is a lack of parental involvement. Parents should spend more time volunteering and being active participants in their childrens' learning to work to make the school all that it can be.
The teachers here are awesome! My son was having a difficult time turning in homework and completing assignments at the beginning of the year and his grades were suffering as a result. The 6th grade teachers sat down with us and made several recommendations to help him. After reading a great book they gave my son and I (The Organized Student), he was able to find a way of organizing his work that worked best for him. He has brought all of his grades up and knows exactly where to find everything he needs. Thanks ladies!
The teachers are generally dedicated, but inconsistency in discipline continues to be a problem in most grades. My kids have been in this school for years and this latest principal is obviously dedicated but not very effective at pulling the staff together and getting the district to allocate the resources it needs. This school needs a major overhaul in both staff (starting with the principal) and equipment.
Teachers care about the kids and their community. My son is enjoys the school. I wish the classrooms had more computers and training aids.
This school caters mostly to the teachers and the advancement of their careers rather than to the students. They begin class everyday at 9:00am because the teachers can't get there before then. This forces many kids into Before School Care as most parents have to be to work by 8:00am. They dismiss every Friday at 1:00pm so that the teachers have work time. I have lost count of the times that my kids have come home and told me that they had a substitute because their regular teacher was at a meeting, conference or on vacation. Teacher conferences and parent meetings are scheduled at the convenience of the teachers, not the parents. While spending time in the classrooms, I found that the teachers are inconsistent with discipline and some don't have control of their classrooms because of this. This is not a school which places priority on the children.
A new principal was hired at Roadrunner last year. Things started going backwards. This present year, at least 15 staff member left Roadrunner and switched to other schools. This is a bad sign. Top programs have all new teachers and the programs has disintegrated in quality. At parent conferences, teachers told my husband and me that things are not going well. I have a 4th and 6th grader, and we are thinking of transporting our two to another school in this district. It would be worth it.
I have a son who is in third grade this year (2003). He is in Title Reading and I had to take him to Sylvan Learning Center to get the help that he needed in Reading that he was not getting in school. This year he has done much better. I am much happier with our new principal Mrs Mauldin, I see great improvements in parent communication and the principal willingness to listen to the teachers as well as the parents and students. Overall I see changes the Roadrunner needed, they are slow but they are happening.
My daughter is in Pride and I have noticed a great deal of improvement in her reading skills. This was an area where she was having a great deal of trouble.
