We believe that parents have a choice in the selection of the academic environment for their children. When a parent exercises that choice with Legacy Traditional School, they are choosing a safe structured accelerated program with high expectations. At Legacy Traditional School students benefit from a Legacy of Learning as they prepare for the world ahead.

Some of the complaints are about high staff turnover. I was recently hired for the Gilbert campus and have been given the runaround by the district office. I applied for 2 positions, but I was hired for a third. They changed the hours for the job to a time when I am not available. Calls to human resources are not returned. It has been very difficult to get accurate information from anybody, and this is before the school year has even started. The administrators have been very unhelpful, so I am not surprised that staff members are leaving. I hope that we can resolve these issues, but I have been told that they are "trying to decide what to do with me." I have been an educator for almost 30 years, and I have never encountered the issues that I am experiencing with this school.

When they built the GILBERT Campus adding the Mozart and Athlos tracks we decided to give it a chance. When it comes to the classroom environment, its less traditional and more military. Kids get marked off if their feet aren't under their desk, hands folding quietly on top and complete silence is expected unless you are being asked a direct question. Teachers read straight from the books and do not differ or they get fired. Real life examples are not added, multimedia is not used ONLY the text book is used. Discussion is not encourage. The questions asked about the material are the questions on the test, nothing that makes the kids THINK why something in history may have happened or why people may have felt a certain way. Legacy doesn't build leaders, they turn the kids into followers afraid to voice an original thought out of fear of repercussions from authority. I attended a 'Student Led' conference today. My child and their classmates were told what to say and to make things sound positive. This school is a complete fraud. 3 more months and we are out of there and we will work on the damage that has been done to their love of learning.

If you want a school that asks for money for everything and demands volunteer time without appreciating your efforts, look no further. If you want your child to learn about acceptance and tolerance wrong school. If you want your child to learn that respect goes in one direction only, and by that respect those in power, this is the perfect school. If you want to see fake smiles, then spend time with the front office staff, principal, vice-p, and secretary.

The Gilbert Campus is very nice and new but don't let that be your reason to go to this school. Do your research and know what you are getting yourself (and your kids) into before enrolling your kids. If your children excel in math or other, they will have a hard time finding proper placement at this school for your child due to class time scheduling conflicts etc. We put our children in a different school where they can learn and excel and continue learning rather then review and repeat things they learned last year. Not a good experience.

I have read the reviews of other parents, and I can sympathize with some of them. This is my son's second year at Legacy, and we love it this year! The prior year he had many friends, enjoyed the curriculum, liked all teachers except his homeroom teacher. She was very rigid - so much so that we tried working with her to resolve some behavior problems, couldn't and had to involve the administration. The administration was very supportive, especially the Vice-Principal. At the end of the day, I strongly believe that the teacher was very young, inexperienced in dealing with children with ADHD, and was very black and white with her teaching approach. I could see that one day she'd be a good teacher, but in the meantime, she was really tough to work with. However, the curriculum was challenging enough to keep my son's attention, so we asked him to try it one more year. This year he has a teacher he absolutely adores - his favorite teacher yet! He's been on the Honor Roll and Principal's Pride (straight As). I haven't see any problems with bullying or racism or preferential treatment. We are Christians, and my son has friends who are LDS. No one is treated differently.

Horrible school!! Teachers are bullies. They allow one kid to do something while the other gets in trouble. They threaten them with point and take them away every chance they get. The new Vice Principal is not ready for the position, she is on a crazy power trip and acts like she has no time for you. You never hear from anyone from the school unless your kid gets in trouble and its already to late. Being proactive is something they have obviously have no clue on. They are more concerned with how long a boys hair is and if his shirt is tucked in then helping them learn. They are more concerned with how they test then the child they are teaching. They teach them no real world experience and don't seem to care about the kids in general. Like said the teachers are bullies. I can't wait until this school year is over so I never have to deal with this school again. It's horrible, don't ever enroll your kids at this school you will regret it.

I have recently removed my daughter from this campus where she has been since Kindergarten. I have been pleased with the academics and she has been on the Principal Pride list since Kinder. My wife volunteered 100+ hours each year and we were very devoted to that school. However, this year, came with personnel changes to the front office and one particular woman, the principal s secretary, had an issue with my wife, which after 3 different occasions, we interpreted as racism. During the exit interview, which we were told was to help them keep students from leaving, we were not asked to sit down by the Vice Principal, and we stood for the entire 30 minute meeting. Unprofessional, rude, and unacceptable. We are of Asian descent and moved here from California and have never experienced this type of treatment before. It is quite sad that some people have not progressed past the issue and still think that outward appearance is a reason to treat others differently. For closure, we contacted the HR dept and superintendent, in hopes that someone will care enough about the image of Legacy, so that others are not treated as we were.

I agree with the reviewer regarding the handwriting. I think it is not helpful to tell your child they need to work on handwriting so early on when they are just learning to hold a pencil and write. I was told that my child (in Kindergarten) after the first progress report that she needed to work on her handwriting - it is a bit much. I tried to like this place too - because it's better than your average public, but it has seemed very dry to me. My daughter didn't have any type of art classes or real - in depth science classes for Kindergarten and 1st grade - it didn't satisfy her yearning to learn it. This school serves its basic function to do well on standardized testing - their main goal - with giving up on gaining knowledge, seeing and experiencing learning - (I've seen their books, materials what they produce, it's just not there) . It seems to be rushed with everything and overcrowded. Unless something extremely bad or good happens to the kid at school, the administrators probably don't know the kids by names or about their families - there's just too many kids. I think the key in this school is to hopefully get a teacher who is enthusiastic.

I like the curriculum they cover and the majority of the take home tasks are pretty good. I want to like the pace, but this will differ for each kid. It could stymie their love of learning because it can be overwhelming for some. The atmosphere is safe, but stale. I'd love to see some numbers on how students do with independent study and creativity after leaving Legacy. I feel the atmosphere is more directed toward doing A, B, C rather than learning. Can't blame them though... I could imagine with so many students it is nearly impossible to teach without an excess of structure. Bottom line... this is my impression. Keep in mind variance from the teacher your child gets and the personality of your child makes up a considerable portion of overall variance, and this is just on average: If you want a responsible and well behaved child with a firm competency in completing academic objectives, then this is the school for you. If you want an independent child that has a passion for learning, creating, and challenging status quo, then this is not the school for you.

Clearly some of these good reviews have been written with bias. If this school has a student struggling with handwriting in the first grade...first grade...then the school feels it's charter is being threatened.They claim to teach Spalding handwriting but they expect 5 and 6 year olds to already have perfect handwriting.the staff here does not have the patience to actually teach anything which is reflected in their attitude when they tell a 6year old they are not good enough to be at legacy. these people have set the charter bar to high and will bully your student, crushing their self esteem until you just pull your student out...if they do not already know how to do what they claim to "teach" To ensure their funding For their charter. Be prepared to teach your child yourself legacy is nothing more than daycare with a syllabus

My 3 children have attended Legacy Traditional - Maricopa for 2 years now and we love it!!! We were very disappointed in the public school curriculum when we first moved here. Luckily, we learned about Legacy, and since we switched schools, our kids have truly been getting the education they deserve. I have no doubt that my 3 Honor Roll student children will be successful through high school, college & into adulthood because they are attending a challenging school which requires hard work & focus. Legacy Traditional is the ONLY school I would recommend to anyone.

My son has attended 7th and 8th grade there and the six years prior to Legacy he was Honor Roll in the Gilbert school district every year. He hasn't made honor roll since being at Legacy. This school academic pace is extremely fast paced and if your child didn't get it he is left behind. Poor communications from the teachers. The 2012-2013 school year was very bad and my son struggled with very little assistance from the school. Tutoring classes were ineffective for the most part. The school leadership this year was poor. Even some teachers I spoke with had issues with changes put in place this year and teacher morale seemed down. Communications from the school was poor. Many of the teachers were always behind updating the homework and grades website so hard for parents to monitor their childs progress closely. Bottom line I felt my child got a better education in public school then a charter school. I wouldn't recommend Legacy if anybody asked me. I emailed the Superintendant for Legacy awhile back and never did get a response. Bottom line I should have left my child in Maricopa Wells where he was honor roll there before going to Legacy Maricopa where he is below 2.0 GPA.

We had our first child in this school the first year it opened in Maricopa. It was great, up until last year. They had always employed exceptional leaders until last year. As alot of our favorite teachers were leaving we also noticed a change in structure. Kids were being labeled depending on who they were. If your parents worked at volunteered at the school you were untouchable. Sounds crazy but true. They expect every child to be perfect and act as adults, not the children they are. The gossip about children between employees is terrible, and the VP this year is very unprofessional and has a poorly shown temper. We had never experienced such trama for not only children but us as parents. One of our children was beat on, pushed down, forced to attend school sick and we finally decided to take action. We will be lodging formal complaints, and our kids will never attend a school associated with Legacy due to a few poor examples that should not be working with children. There are a few great teachers left there, but a few used to be all. The school is not what it used to be, and that is sad so many are leaving but for good reasons. Poor leadership after Dr. Croet left.

There is way to much home work and the aspect of poems is a waste of time. Not one of my kids could remember any of the poems they had to memorize. The Science Fair is out of control. This has to be done at home on top of poems, and homework. The time line is incorrect and due dates are to close to each other. I find that most kids are doing it because they have to not because they want to. This project takes up a ton of time, we spend Monday - Thursday doing homework and those projects and not enough time with our kids. I don't feel sports at this school is teaching our kids for the real world either. They have made competitive sports boring and not competitive in any manner. They will not be able to play in High School the same way. The teachers do not communicate with you when they should, and don't answer important questions. But the staff will jump as soon as they feel your child is not conforming to their rules. I also found a lot of the rules and they way they run the school comes from the Mormon church. I don't have a problem with the church but I do have a problem with them incorporating it into the school without letting parents know. The new asst. principal needs work.

I am shocked at the negative reviews here. This school is amazing and the teachers and administration are supportive, skilled educators who push children to learn as much as they can. The school is a school of choice, so I would say that if you do not support high academic expectations and the need for a great deal of parental involvement, this school is probably not for you...but don't complain about it. Legacy makes no secret of the fact that expectations for both academics and behavior, are high. It's shouldn't be a surprise for anyone who has actually researched the school. As far as kids who are not LDS not being treated well...this is an outrageous statement. My family is not LDS and we have never felt anything but welcomed and important. I'd encourage anyone to go take a look at the school and judge for themselves.

I was a Student at this legacy for a few months I had to leave for personal reasons at home nothing involving the school. I would like to put in and say that these reviews are false I was in 8th grade at this school and the teachers were all cool and laid back compared to the ones here at the Avondale campus. The ones in Maricopa get the job done but are not rude not disrespectful. The students do not bully anybody of course you have those few students who are tease but if yo are really offended tell the principal or vice principal cause they are serious on bullying. My sister went to Legacy as well for Kinder and this little boy bothered her she told her lovely teacher and he got in trouble as fast as anything. I have learned the most at this school and also had the most homework then any other school i have ever been to I loved the way they taught me and the amount of homework i really liked only because i actually felt like i was learning all the teachers and staff are nice they are only mean when you are being bad but they usually just scold you but it depends on what you do. I thank you legacy for giving me the best months i have ever had so far at any school in AZ so far :)

We need to understand education is something that depends on 3 factors the student,the school and the environment at home. When any of these fail we are in trouble. i consider the student to be the most important factor . I have seen children succeed in the worst of circumstances because they want to be successful while others whith everything on hand to succed have failed because of their lack of interest. I dont think killing your child with homework is a better way of learning. we need to remember academic inteligence is not the only kind of inteligence a parent should help to develop. To be succesfull in a working enviroment we need much more than academics. Let the children be children . Let them develop much more than a head full of academic and a idea that he/she is better than others because of that.

HORRIBLE! Not only do students bully one another and are allowed to do so, but teachers are allowed to bully the students as well! Admin. does not follow through with any of their promises and when parents try to step in to protect their children they are told that there are "other" choices. If you don't like us then go somewhere else"! The teachers are wonderful, but the admin. is rude, crude and they do not seem to care at all for the children, only NUMBERS of students! Not sure we are going to keep out kids here... I do like the circ. but DISPISE the admin. and their total lack of caring. How can a principle and vice-principle allow teacherS to say mean, rude and degrating comments to the students and in front of the other students without conciquences while the students are held accountable for EVERY statement they make. It is a MEAN school... Don't send you kids here unless you are LDS and then maybe they will be nice! ;)

They lie and say they have special services. They do not.My child was kindly kicked out due to the lack of SPECED staff. They will not budge on workloads either. I really like some of the teachers though. Yes, bullying is a problem too. I will not suggest this school after this year.

I love this school. My daughter has gone to kindergarten and first grade at the queen creek campus. I have liked all of the teachers that they have there. There is excellent communication with parents we recieved two detailed newsletters every week. One for the overall school events and one for each grade that details exactly what they are learning, what supplies the teachers are in need of if you want to donate. The newsletter for the whole school would even have a section that let you know what kind of sickness that they were seeing going around, such as the flu, colds etc. All of the teachers seem to be top notch and all the kids seem to be happy. So I think that state of the kids says more then anything. My daughter has turned much more responsible at home because of them teaching kids to be responsible, and independant at school. Also the school lunched are mostly made from scratch and offer lots of fruits and vegetables and she has loved that. They also have a dress down day usually about once a month where the kids can wear non uniform clothes, and pay one dollar which I think is a great fundraiser for the school and the kids gets really excited about.
