It seems once you are labeled there is no hope for you. Even when the tides have turned and you are the one being bullied, no one helps you because you have been marked as a trouble maker. That's sad. And hard.
DRJH is a great school and a great environment. There seems to be a good balance between teaching personal educational responsibility and remembering that although this is junior high, they are still kids.
My only complaint is that the sports teams seem to be based on the coach's personal relationship with some kids or parents, and not necessarily talen. Sports shouldn't be political in junior high!
There's more than classroom instruction at DRJHS. They have a huge annual food drive that involves everyone in the school. They have fundraisers and activities supporting various non-profits that involve the students and the staff.
We loved having our kids at DRJHS. The principal is professional, approachable, and does an amazing job. She holds monthly site council meetings to talk to parents about school activities and programs, and she is available to answer any questions that parents have. (If you're a DRJHS parent, you should go to the site council meetings!) We really appreciated the advisory period every day when students can get extra help in a specific subject area, make up missing assignments, or participate in enrichment activities. We had some great teachers! We really liked the canned food drive, fundraisers for charities, and other activities that taught our kids important lessons outside of classroom instruction. There are good reasons why DRJHS is known as the "giving school." They taught the kids important life lessons and made it fun. We had great experiences at DRJHS!
I've had three boys attend this school and each of them loved their junior high experience. They have quality teachers who really care about the students. The principal has been there since the school opened and does an amazing job running the school. She loves the students and expects great behavior on campus. The junior high has a reputation of having less behavior problems than other schools. Office staff is friendly, efficient and approachable. There are lots of ways to get involved at school - sports, music, clubs, etc. Highly recommend this school.
My family has been very happy with DRJHS! We have had one child go through the school and currently have a 7th grader there! The teachers are fabulous! There are many club offerings to keep your child engaged. Advisory hour is wonderful tutoring or if not needed exploring coding or journalism. The band teacher has been amazing for both of my girls. The band was just awarded a Superior with Distinction at the district showcase. The sports teams are fun and my daughter has learned and grown a lot thanks to amazing coaching staff!
I love Desert Ridge Junior High! I have had the opportunity as a parent to spend lots of time on campus helping with lots of different events between music, PTO and sports. The teachers and coaches have all been amazing to work with and are genuinely concerned with the well being of my daughter. I love the enthusiasm of the school counselors and principals. Overall we have been very happy and I would highly recommend this school to anyone.
