I do not recommend this school as there appears to be a severe lack of interest in the students.
We moved our son here out of a crowded standard school and the results have been amazing! His class is small and he gets individualized teaching. We receive weekly written updates and we can check his daily grades online! Behavior and academic progress have improved due to this school.
The teachers vary in skills and there doesn't seem to be much leadership at the school. They have added a high school, which has made it difficult for the teachers, due to the quality of students in these upper grades, they have been receiving. I really enjoyed the 5/6 grade teachers, but one of them left and we weren't happy after that. As far as arts, there isn't much to speak of. As parents, we were very happy here until this year.
All day kindergarten is good, but the level of parental involvement is minimal (as with most schools). The fine arets teachers are mediocre at best. The academics for the early grades are good, and the martial arts instructor is fantastic. I would recommend this school for 1-3 grades, only if you're not too concerned about the fine arts. For your kids' sakes, pull them out before they hit middle school. The test scores speak for themselves.
If you are looking for more of a preforming arts school then this might be a good choice for you.
I have two daughters at Legacy Elementary and am very pleased with the education they are receiving. My eldest is involved in the gifted program and was able to participate in the Science Fair and the Spelling Bee. She takes piano lessons at La Musique which is associated with the school. The parents at Legacy seem very involved and willing to help the school. We checked out other schools before enrolling in Legacy and it just really seemed the best fit for both girls.
Legacy school has an awesome drama, dance, and performing arts program. The teachers work with the students for success. The flaw I have seen (we have been there for 2 years, and I am on the pto), is a lack of organization and communication.
The school provides an excellent music and arts program and is small enough to provide a personal touch with the children. Academically their performance varies greatly depending on teacher. They offer a wide variety of classes and my children appreciate the choice in elective choices. The school requires a uniform which is helpful in reducing differentiation in students economic backgrounds. The school offers transportation which is helpful. The school is evolving and would benefit from greater organization and improved academic rigor at the high school level. These, we believe, will come with the increased enrollment in high school classes. We are grateful for the focused attention and care at Legacy/East Valley.
Good music and dance activities, communication getting better than previous year.
My child has attended Legacy for 3 years and we have been really happy with her teachers. The administration leaves something to be desired. The middle school and high school are together and they have become like a last resort We will not be attending there anymore because of this.
Legacy is a good school to start children out in k-2. The teachers in these grades are excellent and really seem to care about each child.
This is my child's second year at Legacy. I think this school has been a wonderful experience for him. He's learned to love going to school! This school challenges him in his academics. In addition to that, they enforce good citizenship. He learns how to be a good person and treat others kindly. The school has a safe, nurturing environment. The teachers are approachable, happy, and creative professionals. They make the Core Knowledge program a lot of fun for the kids. The music, drama, art and dance classes are helping him to learn about his subjects in a way that's fun for him. I hope that they expand to include High School students. They have a good thing going!
Legacy Elementary School is in it's second year. I have to admit I was hesitant when I decided to let my two children attend a charter in it's first year. Legacy has really proved itself to me through my children's success. My son has always loved to read, but never came home happy til I put him in Legacy two years ago. My daughter was defiant about learning in general because she started school with her own agenda. Both of their teachers over the last two years, have sent them home as a happy first and second grader and helped them achieve a third through fifth grade reading level. Their grammar and spelling skills have skyrocketed! But that is not all, they are finding themselves on the stage in front of audiences dancing, singing, and acting. They take art, music and enrichment classes (an array of electives chosen by the student and parents). Our children are becoming well-rounded and experiencing education through a whole different light. One that teaches patriotism, our love for the past , the present and the future. Legacy is helping to build my children's skills and character through showing them that learning can be an adventure!
I put my son in the school to take advantage of the arts, drama, dance, etc. His teacher was very nice but it was her first year with this new curriculum and made for some disadvantages. I was forced to remove my son from the school the last quarter of the year because of repeated verbal and sometimes physical assaults on him from a very rough group of students who come from the surrounding area of Apache Junction. They are not held accountable at this school fro repeated cussing, name calling and cruelty. I tried to discuss these issues with the principal and was told to just write a letter and it would be put into the folder. Legacy lost a sweet, well behaved student in order to keep their numbers up with the remaining misbehaved ones. It felt like the 'hood'. The environment is not a good one but under ideal currcumstances, the teachers and school curriculum philosophy would be very good. They need to control their rough students in a more effective manner.
