This is our first year at LFPA Alta Mesa. I have a kindergartener that is an only child with separation issues, but she loves school so much I can't get her to want to leave. When I pick her up from aftercare she cries and gets mad because she wants to stay longer. I have never seen her like this and the teachers and principal are always so friendly and kind to us. We love it here and are glad this is the choice we made for her school.
I have a second grader that had Ms. Murphy this year and she loved being in her class. She is really excited about going to third grade too. All of the teachers are always friendly in the afternoons when I pick her up and she is always excited to go to school.
We love this school! I had considered putting my kids in a district school because of the easier transportation but when I mentioned it to them, my kids had a fit and said they don't ever want to go to any other school.
I am a student at this school and it is absolutely horrible and unacceptable. I wanted to go to a good performing arts school to have fun and be able to do the things I enjoy doing and get the grades I try so hard for but, here it's anything but fun. First the teachers are very unprofessional and rude, they don't even care about the students unless you are on the basketball team or top dancer in cheer. They have huge amounts of favoritism, if they don't like you, you're going to find out. I know this to be true. And the principle she is one of the worst, she is completely different when there aren't any parents around and the things she says and does and how the teachers treat the students here totally ruined my want to even come to school I used to love school until coming here. Also there are huge amounts of bullying and nothing is done about it, the teacher will see and hear it going on and they do absolutely nothing at all! In fact the teachers here even bully, spreading rumors and gossip about students they don't like, it's disgusting I plan to leave when the school year is over, and hopefully something is done about these horrific events that go on here. It's wrong.
As a parent coming from another state I am very cautious about who my children are around for most of the day. That is why I chose a charter school. This school has allowed me access to the campus and I am able to be involved with my children's learning. They are warm and inviting. I have had the opportunity to meet several elementary teacher because of I have multiple children. I have yet to have any concerns.
This is our first year at LFPA and we love it. My daughter is in 7th grade and had never played the piano in her life. I was so proud to watch her at the last performance. I like to volunteer a lot at the school and the school did make me obtain a Fingerprint clearance card in order to do so, but I was ok with that. My daughter loves Mrs. Linder and is always bragging about all the fun things she does with the kids and how she always dresses up and makes the dances and stuff fun. Whenever I sign in and out to volunteer the gal at the front is always friendly and when Ms. Triggs and Ms. Rutledge aren't tied up they always say hi and thank me for everything I do. We love it here and hope they invite us back next year and continue to let me help.
I like the school. We may not have things that other schools have, but we make up for it with other things like our performing arts and trips like School In the Woods. We even won Division Champions for Ultimate Frisbee this year. I have been attending LFPA Alta Mesa for 8 years and I am about to graduate next month. The school has done a lot for me. I probably would not be graduating if not for the school and their resource department. I wouldn't change anything other than maybe the use of cell phones, but I understand why it is a school policy.
I think that the people raving about the school must be personal friends of the principal and teachers. Unless you come from a dreadful school you will not be pleased. Substandard all the way around. They do about 3 talent shows per year. Nothing that different from a conventional school. There is NO real emphasis on the arts. It is run like a reform school or alternative school.
Learning Foundation and Performing Arts school Alta Mesa Campus is not a very good school. You get students who bully others and they get away with it. 2 out of the 4 high school teachers are the only good thing about this school. The rest including the principle, and secretary at the front desk and other staff members are very unprofessional. The teachers are lazy, judgmental, and have huge favoritism. Including the principle. So if your student is having bully issues or needs help or for any reason needs to deal with the principle if they are not liked or in the favorites of staff nothing will be done except your student getting a write up for some made up story. Also, they discriminate about sexual orientation, and they get away with it since the learning foundation district office doesn't care either. So if your child is serious about learning DO NOT send them to this school.
My high-school son loves this school! The school belongs to an Ultimate Charter League, and Alta-Mesa won Conference Champs. It's nice to see a small charter school still be involved in sports.
I wanted to love this school, I really did. I adore the principal, I adored the after school instructor, and I loved my daughter's teacher VERY much. However, my daughter had been struggling at her other school, due to it's accelerated learning program. When she got Straight A's, I realized it wasn't remotely challenging for her. I brought her in assured it was the same type of a school as the school she was leaving, and for the arts program. Neither promise panned out quite as I hoped. Also, she was bullied in an appalling manner. Her life was threatened- TWICE. The after school teacher was quite concerned, but, the principal, wasn't very forthcoming with any answers regarding what happened. Because of these things, we had no choice but to pull her out. I hesitate in writing anything, as I really love the staff. I understand this comes from the home, not the school, but, the bullying was appallingly horrific.
I went to this school for 2 years and I have had my problems but its still a descent school. I had a lot of fun with all of the electives and performances that most schools dont but so much effort into. On the other hand I have noticed the teachers pick favorites and because its a k-12 school, the older kids have to do a lot of kiddish things. Plus we had some problems this last year (2012-2013) with the bathrooms. A lot of the kids at this school dont have respect for them I have walked in the bathrooms to see feminine products on the floor all over the bathroom and have had to sit threw several talkes from the teachers and principal because it wouldn't stop. I am now leaving schools to find a new experience.
I honestly love LFPA. I just recently graduated from here and I can say that senior year was the best year for me because of the teachers and all the other students being so friendly and always willing to help me. I will miss coming to school here but I will be back to visit all the teachers and staff. I got to learn and have fun at the same time.
I am not sure who writes the reviews on these sometimes. It's disappointing to see that it is always a personal attack, rather than a helpful review. Ms. Triggs has been such a kind and wonderful principal. My child has had some discipline issues but any time he was sent to the office, he was treated fairly and offered multiple resolutions to any issues he had. Any time I walk through the doors, I always see the principal's door open. That never happens these days!! I never even knew my principal in school for anything other than discipline! Ms. Triggs is always out and about and the kids love her. The school is a direct reflection of its leadership and if the school was voted as "runner-up" for the best charter school in the east valley (East Valley Tribune), then that has to say something about the quality of teachers and leaders they have here. I couldn't be more proud to send my child there. He gets help when he needs it and the extra care we were looking for in a charter school. I wouldn't send my child anywhere else.
I love the alta mesa campus. My child has nothing but great things to say about his teachers and the principal. They are always willing to gothe extra mile to help my son when he is struggling. Ive had the pleasure of meeting the principal and she truly cares for her students as if they were her own! I love the family oriented campus and wouldnt think of putting my son in another school.
I love the school. I have an 8th grader and the class was too large so the principal divided the class and my daughter got the best teacher we have ever had. She loves her teacher and says he is so much fun, and her grades have improved so much. I am really involved and at the school so much and everyone is so nice.
Nikki Triggs is a dear friend of mine today. I had the pleasure of meeting her 12 years ago. Both my boys have been taught by her and her staff. We now live too far to attend, but my heart was touched and we were lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her & to gain a new family friend!
I think we as parents want things a certain way and forget that what we want isn't always conducive to a learning environment. I think we also forget that the kids we have at home aren't always the kids they get at school. I try to be objective when my child chooses poorly and gets in trouble at school. Have I butt heads with the principal? Sure. But when she offers a face-to-face conference it is clear to me that she is fair and looking for resolutions that suit all parties. I couldn't imagine doing what she does. I think it's one thing to be unhappy with the school, but it's quite another to personally attack someone. The great thing about education is that we have choices. We aren't always going to love everything and we don't have to. There are plenty of schools. My advice to those who hate it so much? Make an adult decision and move on. It is disappointing to know that my child attends school with children who have such unhappiness in their lives. I appreciate all the extra hours and care my child's teacher puts in for her and her classmates. No school is perfect and to expect that, is ridiculous.Education really is a thankless job and I hope they know some us appreciate them!
It surprises me to read the comments first off about the Principle. If it wasn't for Triggs and all the help her and the teachers had given me I wouldn't of Graduated on time and I can admit I wasn't a easy teenager to handle sometimes and they still treated me EQUAL along with everyone else who are students at LFPA. This school cares about the kids and everyone's education non like the other schools I went to like Red Mountain where you can say they DO have their FAVORITES. I wanted to give a HUGE shout out for this school helping me before, during, and after school to get my High School Diploma on time and allowing me the summer before I graduated to come in and study for hours at a time to pass my aims and to get further in my education.. Thank you guys so much!
I am truly surprised about the negative comments about the teachers and the principal. My daughter has been a student here for 3 years and is excited about the future of the school. She loves the dance, music, theatre and all the other options available. As a parent I love the fact that the classrooms are smaller than the public sector and they offer movement based classes on a daily basis. I have had nothing but positive interactions with the administration and teachers. Yes, they have to get creative with performances but these are VERY expensive to put on. No school has unlimited funds to rent out performance locations, upgrade buildings at every whim or cater to every parent Want I am excited about the future as my daughter plans on staying here for another 6 years (all the way through graduation)
