I can only say that any problems in the past have been eliminated by the disgruntled leaving the school. This has only strengthen the performing arts program. I do believe that any problems that were posted by people in the past had an agenda of their own, which is extremely unfounded. The end of last year was a vast improvement over the beginning which indeed floundered under a mismanaged performing arts director. The male principal was very supportive of the current performing arts director and any disagreements posted here are extremely unwarranted and posted with an angry agenda. However we have a new principal who is also committed to the arts and has given the new performing arts director - who does have an extensive background in the arts - leeway to do what is needed to make this the best performing arts school in the valley. As the new performing arts director I challenge any school to dispute this with proof otherwise. You cannot.

Lots of changes in the year ahead, especially with a new principal. Our children are staying. We look forward to new leadership, more structured academics and quality performing arts electives at both campuses. Poor test scores reflect the numbers of students coming and going from other schools, and are not realistic. Would highly recommend this school.

This is a great school for students who do jot fit the traditional schools. The staff is extremely helpful and caring of all students. The school is a safe environment in that there have been no fights in several years and only one reported minor drug offense that the staff handled promptly. In the past year Star has put performing arts in the forefront by hiring performing arts staff that actually has a working and professional knowledge of the performing arts. This is evident in the increased enrollment and growth Star is experiencing.

Wow! Sequoia Star is growing by leaps and bounds. They finally have a performing arts staff that is professional and puts the students first. Core teachers are very caring of their students and truly get to know everyone. After reading the previous comments I was puzzled by the drug comment. I know of no drug problems at the school. Of course with high school kids, drugs may be an issue. However, the Star staff know their kids so well that any drug issues are reported to the police and parents. My kids truly feel valued at Star. They can approach any staff member with any problem and have confidence it will be handled professionally. I would highly recommend this school for any 7th-12th grade student who is interested in the performing arts or just something different from a traditional school.

My kids went to this school up until this past year. The school started out REALLY great but soon declined when the new principal came on board. The kids have told me that he spent so much time behind closed doors with his secretary that they weren't able to get in to speak to him. In fact, it got so bad that over 50 of my kid's friends left at Christmas time to find other schools. They have been a failing school for two years now (since the new principal) so I highly suggest going to a different school!
