This school is an amazing place for children to learn and grow as individuals. The staff is incredible, the devotion they display is immeasurable. Shelly Heath is the phenomenal principal that leads the staff and children with love, positivity and energy! I have 3 children at Ishikawa and have had only positive to say. My boys had the opportunity to attend outdoor/science camp this year and it was a wonderful experience for them. My daughter thrives with her teacher. I love the use of technology in the classroom. They are learning so much. The staff, teachers, and principal are always helpful and have my child's best interest at heart. I have been a volunteer in the classroom since my boys started and have always felt welcome. The PTO does an excellent job with activities for the children.

My sons teachers did/do not like their job. His teacher this year is very unhappy at the school and I feel like it shows in her classroom. The curriculum is constantly changing with each new piece of expensive and unnecessary equipment they get. For instance the principle has asked that they no longer do worksheets for the purpose of using computerized whiteboards the school purchased. This is a waste of the schools money in my opinion and they could have gotten better books for the classrooms. Instead they put more stress on the teacher to come up with ideas to teach an unestablished curriculum. The homework is a joke! I have to ask my son questions on subjects he should have learned in kindergarden. It takes 2 minutes... maybe. How do I know what he is learning based off of this? They also change how and what they teach based on scores from test that are made mandatory to see if they will pass state test. If the scores are not high enough they have to change what they are teaching regardless if the children are improving or not. The principle is all show for her expensive clients and is trying to maintain face at anyones expense. I will not be sending my kids back.

I have had 3 of my four children at Ishikawa. this is our 8th year at this school. It has been an awesome experience. All the teachers my kids have had at Ishikawa have been excellent! The teachers do such a great job at meeting each student at his or her needs which I know is difficult because of the varied learning levels. My kids have always felt happy and safe at this school! We love it! in fact, 3 years ago our family moved out of Ishikawa boundries but I continue to drive them the 5 miles everyday so they can stay at such an awesome school! sincerely, mrs. Epstein

My husband and I moved from Gilbert to Mesa because we wanted our children to have a better education. We have not been disappointed in the quality of education that they have received from Ishikawa. The teachers push my children to excel while giving positive re-enforecment. My daughter is so excited about school that she has asked me to continue her education by enrolling her in a writing class for the summer. My son had the opportunity to attend an outdoor school (camp) as part the 5th grade science experience. It was an awesome learning experience. The PTO does a fantastic job of getting the community involved by planning fun events for the entire family.

Currently all three of my children attend Ishikawa. I am VERY grateful for the incredible leadership at Ishikawa from the principal Mrs. Heath on down. I have never seen or been a part of such an organized and well-run school. The community support is tremendous! I feel my children are receiving a superior education and the teachers are able to establish these results while making the experience fun. My kids love to go to school at Ishikawa! Thanks to all who are involved with Ishikawa for blessing our community with you time and talents!!!

I have two grandchildren in Ishikawa. I am delighted that they love school as much as they do!! My youngest (1st grader) is an avid reader and loves to tell me about what he learns. My 3rd grader is in ELP. He knows more than I do at my age!!! They are challenged, rewarded for hard work and taught that learning can be fun. Ishikawa is more than a great school. It is a learning community where children want to be, teachers want to be and grandparents love to be!!

I am fortunate enough to have my children attend Ishikawa. We are on an open enrollment (boundary exception) as we think it is an exemplary place of learning. The children are treated with respect and always encouraged to do their personal best. The principal, teachers and staff truly have my children's best interest in mind.

My experience at Ishikawa has been model quality. The use of and instruction with in the area of 21st Century skills should be commended. Our children need quality technology, communication and problem solving skills in order to prepare them for dealing with the vastly changing needs in the work force. The strong leadership and dedicated teachers are evident by the parent involvement, academic results and community feel that Ishikawa provides. Being a teacher myself at another school, I was extremely pleased with the quality education Ishikawa has provided!!

My children have attended 5 elementary schools in 4 states, and from my experience, I believe it would be impossible to find a better school than Ishikawa anywhere in the nation. The entire faculty and staff are all highly qualified, and are dedicated to children and education. As a former PTO board member, I am very proud of the support that our parents and community give to the school. PTO members work hard to get parents involved through activities such as Dragon BBQ and Donuts for Dad, and we are pleased to be able to provide items that teachers can use to enhance our children's education, such as placing an amazing SmartBoard in each classroom!

I have had 4 children attend this school and I must say I have been very impressed with the quality of education and care my children have received. I believe the success of this school is directly attributed to the amazing principle here. She is always willing to chat with me about my kids and is genuinely concerned that they are happy and that I am happy. I feel confident my children are getting the best education available.

I've had 5 children attend Ishikawa. They have all done very well. The 2 who have moved on to Jr. High were well prepared to meet the challenges of a new school and curriculum. I've always felt that the teachers were open to discussion and responsive to suggestions about a particular child. This is a great school with great staff.

Ishikawa is an exceptional school! We moved into the area three years ago because of the quality of education our three children would receive while attending Ishikawa. We are extremely proud of the results and know that enrolling them at Ishikawa was the right decision. Our extremely talented teachers, along with our qualified staff are dedicated to giving each child the best possible education. Our principal exemplifies great leadership ability. She is genuinely interested in each and every child and they know it, because they can't stop smiling when they see her! We have many things to be proud of and are grateful for parental involvement, economical and cultural diversity, educational enhancements and a solid foundation for our childrens' education.

My husband and I moved from our old home to this area just so our children could attend this school. We did a lot of research and found that this school has so much to offer and is very concerned about our childrens education. The PTO and the parents in this area are wonderful and because of the involvement of the parents, the school just gets better.

11 years ago I enrolled my oldest child at Ishikawa - at that time we were a boundary execption - The school is fantastic. We sold our home and moved into the neighboorhood so that our other children could attend this school as well. The teachers and staff (and we have had many over the years) have all been great! If we could go back in time, we would definately choose Ishikawa once again!

My third child is in 6th grade at Ishikawa and I will miss this school immensely when he moves on to junior high. Our family has been involved in Ishikawa for the last 14 years - since we moved to this school district so our children could attend this specific elementary school - and no other school in the state could have provided a better foundation for our children. My daughter has since graduated with honors from high school and we have a son in his sophomore year excelling in AP and Honors courses. Our children's achievements are a direct result of not only the quality of education they received at Ishikawa, but also the caring and nurturing attitudes of the teachers, staff, and principal of this tremendous school. We will forever be indebted to Ishikawa for caring so much about the growth of our children. Thank you. Mary and Dan

We moved from Gilbert several years ago because we wanted our children to attend a better school. Ishikawa has not disappointed us. The teachers continue to push my children to excel in their school work while giving them positive re-enforcement. My daughter's love for writing has been encouraged by her teacher to the point she is asking me can I take a writing class this summer. The PTO does a fantastic job of creating sense of community by planning fun events that everyone can attend. I would highly recommend this school.

This is our first year at Ishikawa after moving from a nationally ranked school in Colorado. I have been so impressed with the staff and teachers at Ishikawa. The curriculum is very similar and my son's teacher is absolutely amazing. He is excelling and challenged in his school work, especially writing. The parent involvement is very strong. It is an A+ school to me.

This is my first year working at Ishikawa Elementary and I couldn't be happier. The children are bright and respectful. They truly appreciate diversity and strive to help each other learn. Mrs. Heath is a great leader. She makes sure to know everyone's names and greet each student, teacher and staff member she meets each day. She is stern when discipline is needed, but the children know she loves them and what she expects of them. Shelley Heath is a joy to work with! I am amazed daily at the community involvement at this school. The staff and teachers are some of the most dedicated in the district. The children are prepared for their futures with the use of technology in the school. Overall, I don t believe there is a better place for children to receive instruction and preparation for their future. Ishikawa is AMAZING!

I have two children enrolled at Ishikawa and found their first year at the school to be a great one. The kindergarten and first grade teachers were friendly, patient and solid at teaching the foundation. I appreciate the teaching techniques, especially the time spent on phonics, concept, problem solving and numbers. Both kids experienced a positive learning environment and can't wait for summer vacation to end so that they can go back.

My older son graduated from Ishikawa with a 4.0. He loved the teachers and even the homework was no problem. Now my 10 year old son goes there, it he is quite different from his brother. He has A.D.H.D. and sees a specialist for it. The teachers have been extremely supportive of him and have worked with my wife and me to make sure it does not work as a disadvantage in his learning. His current teacher, Miss Barrett, has worked with him and even has him coming in early two days a week for extra help. If you are looking for a top grade school with top grade leadership, Ishikawa is the one.

Our daughter has been attending Ishikawa since the second grade. Her father and I removed her from a nearby Charter school and found Ishikawa through 'Great Schools'. Although Ishikawa is out of our school district we have found that Ishikawa has definitely met the needs of our daughter. She is now in the fifth grade. We have always been amazed with the staff, not to mention the principal. The principal makes her rounds often, she is out and about and is definitely seen about the campus. I even saw her out at the cross walks this morning meeting and greeting the children. We are very impressed with the teaching staff's length of stay at Ishikawa, there is no turn around to speak of. Their hears are definitely into teaching. They do take the time out for some one-on-one, patience and make their expectations known up front.

My son began attending Ishikawa as a kindergartener in 04-05, and we have been very pleased with the school. I was very impressed by the fact that in our area almost all of the children in the surrounding neighborhoods attend Ishikawa. In other areas in Mesa, that is not the case for the neighborhood public school. Just the fact that so many families are pleased with this school impressed me. In our two years here I have not heard one bad thing spoken about the school. I have truly appreciated the fact that the teachers I have been involved with demonstrate that they have a personal interest that each of their students perform well. I also enjoy the sense of community support that is there. I would highly recommend Ishikawa to others. Sharon W.

My son is ADHD. The principal and his teachers have been very helpful in dealing with his needs. We get great feedback and are alerted if there is any learning risks that the teacher may notice. The afterschool learning club is a place he loves to go on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It gives him the extra help he sometimes needs in math. He actually volunteered to go, and looks forward to it. He is my second child going through Ishikawa. My older son got such a great start and has pulled straight A's in 8th grade. The teachers here care and really show an interest in the kids.

Ishikawa encourages parent involvement in the classrooms. I volunteered several times last year. My son's teacher was great; she saw that my son needed some focus on his social skills and worked with him to develop them. By the end of his pre-K year, my son was very well-adapted socially. The school emphasizes kindness to one another and does not tolerate bullish behavior. Since my son had the opportunity to go to pre-K at Ishikawa, he is excelling academically this year. The school has lots of activities that encourage parent participation.

We have not been disappointed in the opportunities available to our daughter since relocating her to Ishikawa at the beginning of last year. The teachers and administrators have provided the support necessary for the preparation and advancement of a dedicated ELP student. The program at Ishikawa was recommended to us by teachers and parents from other schools in the Mesa School District. We find a program that includes a good cross-section of students and teachers to be more beneficial than just classes orieted towards the high end of the more advanced students. L.D.Briley

I was really disappointed with this school alot of the teachers and the priciple seem to be not willing to meet the needs of the student even after the parents show concern regarding their child. My child was to the point of fighting me to not go to school every day. And the teacher said she was failing in every subject. The front office staff are just the sweetest ladies, however, they're not the ones teaching our children and the lack of support from the principle was just a real disgrace. I ended up transferring my child to another school were she was treated with dignity and respect and now she enjoys going to school again and is above average in pretty much everything.

Ishikawa has been a wonderful school for our daughter! They have a 'young learner' Kindergarten program for kids who turn 5 between Sept. 1st and Dec.31st and are ready for school. The principal Mrs. Heath is fantastic and knows every child by name. The only discrepancy that I see is if your child needs Special-Ed there may be a problem. Our son has ADHD/OCD and the district has only a few options for children with inattention and behavioral issues and one of those is the GUS program which deals with at-risk kids and the other is an 'Emotionally Disabled' classroom. Our son now attends a Charter school. The Mesa school district could use an update when it comes to kids who are 'exceptional' and need alternative programs to help them learn. Other than that our neighborhood school 'Ishikawa' is an excellent choice. I love all of the teachers there!
