INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

As a teacher, I am particular about the education of my children. I enrolled my daughter here for Kinder because she didn't meet the birthday deadline for public school. My plan was to move her during the year or for first grade. However, I wound up moving my son from Country Meadows to Paramount for 7th grade instead. At this school they have high expectations and don't let him get away with giving partial effort. My daughter had a hard time adjusting to being in school last year but has loved it so far this year. I took away a star because there are issues with the specials staff and that concerns me. However, I like the school overall and I believe my students education is better than what I was seeing from the local public school.

Well it's summer time and the year is over. My daughter has attended Paramount since Kinder and graduated this year in the top 5 of her class. The teachers helped her with so much over the years that I couldn't have asked for a better school or group of people to be involved in her education. She will miss Paramount a great deal but will forever come back to see the teachers that helped her along the way. I have a huge appreciation for all the staff at Paramount Academy and would recommend this school to anyone that is wanting more than just the average Public School for there children. This is one of the few schools left that offers Music, Drama and PE on a daily basis and I commend that, not to mention the advanced math that my daughter was in and now has a head start in High School because of it. Thank you Paramount Academy staff for taking my daughter to the next level of her life. You will forever be appreciated!!!!

I think everyone should pay close attention to the reviews here. Note that the ones that complain the most about the school are complaining because they didn't like the way they were treated by administration or they felt their student shouldn't be held back. Too many schools these days do everything they can to placate the parent, even if it means passing a child who isn't ready or shaping the homework regime or curriculum to a parent's liking. If we really want to go back to education the way "it was in our day" than we need to find schools that will not back down from their standards no matter how much it inconveniences a lazy student or enabling parent. I know that I want my child challenged not babied. Paramount is that type of school. At least is is for my child.

I have had 2 students graduate from Paramount. One of them is amazingly smart taking honors classes in high school. The other struggles and works his butt off to make the grade. I don't believe that either of my students would be as successful if they wouldn't have had teachers that care, learned a good work ethic, and been given work at their grade level to challenge them, and kept him motivated. Currently I have one student there. He has an IEP and is in SPED. They work his SPED program around him, offer me information to help him at home throughout the summer, and set him up for success while still challenging him. He has made HUGE progress and keeps getting better. The staff ROCKS!!! This is small school with a high standard for its teachers and that is why it is difficult to find a good fit. Management works hard and is currently putting in a new building. My kids are treated fair, not bullied and if something comes up it is dealt with. Parents need to volunteer more...30 minutes here or there, any time for that matter makes the school stronger and more successful. It provides a way to support the school and instill pride in the students.

Can't wait to see the new building. Paramount is adding a new gym with indoor basketball and volleyball with a full stage and new football and soccer field.

This school is so poorly funded. The instructors are quitting left and right. My son lost his PE teacher in the middle of the year twice last year and they would run in grass or play random games with a yard assistant. Drama teacher left,..alot of drama around teachers as well. Most of my neighbors drive kids to schools out of area. no real extra curriculum,..... I am pulling him out this year....looking for better opportunity at a public school.

Have concerns with the leadership . management. ownership.specific individuals seem to be more for what they want for themselves an specific individuals than for the school as a whole.basically favoritism. other concerns from individuals manipulating and twisting words. and them saying they believe something that i should do for my kids when they are not even the parents of them .alot of failures to communicate properly.but no issues with teachers .so far good .honest .strict teachers. they play by the rules and communicate properly. make s up for the leadership and owner.

they want to twist our words around even before an IEP meeting and retain our kids they want to make problems for parents if the kids are not up to school so called "high standards" the teachers are mean and bully the kids. This schools sucks! beware

Paramount is an amazing school. The staff is very kind and attentive and the principal is always so involved and helpful. She is visible and willing to go the extra mile for the students. I enjoy having children at Paramount and am greatful for the one on one attention that they get in class. This school is a breath of fresh air compared to other schools. Keep up the good work Paramount.

Paramount Academy is a really good school. Teachers are probably the best you can find in arizona. Not really any bullys at all. They will kick you out right away if you are a bully. The only reason this school got 4 out of 5 is because of the principle. She is really rude and snobby. She doesnt have any leadership skills at all. That doesnt matter that much though, IT IS STILL THE BEST SCHOOL IVE EVER BEEN TO!!

My kids started here after attending a school in the Cartwright district. There were 36 kids in my son's kindergarten class and the teacher was by herself. Here there are 27 kids in his class AND there is a teacher and an aide with the kids. We also had major concerns about bullying at the old school and have really seen a change in our oldest after bringing him here. We recommend this school to our family and friends looking for a change.

I don t understand people. The school provides cold morning schedule when it is 40 degrees or below and heat advisory days if it is over 100 degrees. The school does everything they can to accommodate parent requests. Parents were upset about the heat during dismissal and the school is putting a patio over the student pickup area. Seriously! There is not another school in the valley that accommodates cold morning because it really isn t necessary.

My daughter attends school at Paramount and I love all of the extra activities that the school plans. The teachers and staff spend extra hours at the school to make sure everyone has a good time. Love that the teachers know everybodys name.

Last year this school was, at least in my mind, one of the top K-8 schools around. This year I have noticed a decline in leadership at this school. Last year during the winter they let the kids come into the class rooms because of the cold. Now they line up and about 4 teachers are there to greet their students. All the others come way after with their hot drinks at hand saying how cold it is. When the leadership of this school is called on it, all she has to say is "we are not going to debate this and I have no idea what you are trying to prove." " You can take your kid(s) to this school or you can take them somewhere else. I would like to see all staff out there with the kids during the winter with the kids to see how fast some of these can't change policies would change. I like this school. I like the teachers. I dislike the leadership.

Class sizes are too large, the pta known as papa is too clicky they only let certain people in. They have property in the back with animals they never use, its sad. My daughter went to this school up until last year and Im so glad we moved. when she went to her new school she was a bit behind now she is all caught up and much happier.

My oldest daughter graduated from Paramount 3 years ago and she says that high school math classes were easy because she was in advanced math there. My youngest two still attend the school and my husband and I are very happy. My fourth grader was doing 4th grade math by the end of 3rd grade. Very happy!

My children have been attending PAC for several years now. The last 2-3 years have been very difficult. I dont think they have the leadership they once had and they are not preparing the students for high school. I am very concerned and looking into other schools for my younger children. This once was a great school, but now I would not recommend it to anyone.

Paramount Academy is a wonderful school that gives your child a great foundation of education. Our small classrooms and dedicated teachers gives your child more individualized attention. School Uniforms and our 1-2-3, you're-out dicipline program helps reduce negative peer influences and ensures that your kids are safe. I am proud to work here and spend time with the wonderful students that attend Paramount Academy.

I am a former student at PAC, and for the most part this school is okay. I have attended PAC for 1 year, and the students at the school was very friendly. The teachers are friendly and most of them were great teachers. The principal could have been more social with me,but she is a great principal and strict most of the time... The down fall of this school is the lack of technology and the size of the school. Other than that, PAC is a great school.

Regarding this parents post "I hate that I feel the need to write this review. PAC has gone downhill over the last 2 years...." I too have had some of the same difficulties at this school. I thought maybe only my child and I had these dificulties but it alarms me that some other parents have experienced the same. My child has attended PAC for 5 years now. I've had similar problems with teachers not informing me of missed work, grades, etc. untill conference time which by that time it has been too late.

I hate that I feel the need to write this review. PAC has gone downhill over the last 2 years. I have zero confidence in PAC's kindergarten program, I know children that went into the 1st grade not knowing "sight words" and I was told by the principal that not even half of the kindergartners knew how to read going into the 1st grade. Also, my child made the grades every single quarter for honor roll and was never recognized for it. And another thing to keep in mind, you have to stay on top of the teachers to get updates on your child's grades and/or missing work. again I know children that were having extreme difficulties with certain tasks and the parents were never notified until conference time in the 3rd semester. The principal does not have the experience needed to run this school. She is nice, caring and has her favorites but lacks the experience to keep parents involved and the children motivated to be the best they can. Mediocrity should never tolerated with teachers and/or students. It seems that every year half of the teachers are replaced and the rules change all the time or the

I am a teacher at Paramount and wanted to respond to the post about our grading procedures. I really wish the parent who posted that would talk to the principal or their child's teacher. We do give participation points, but that is not our only means for grading our students. In fact, we use a weight system in which participation is worth far less than actual points earned. Tests hold the highest weight. I hope my post helps, if not please bring your concerns to our principal. She will be more than happy to help you. She can even schedule a team meeting with you, your child's teacher, and herself.

April 27, 2011
I have found that a lot of teachers at PAC are setting up students to fail for the following year. Most often students work is given participation points rather than actual grades on what the have obtained in that subject. Being a charter school with small classrooms settings, their should be more than enough time to have the students work graded. How will both the parents/teachers know what areas their child/student needs help in if participation points are given. By the teachers doing this will cause students to suffer the following year.

My daughter and son have been going to PAC for years now, I think that the changes that have been put in place are amazing and working well, The new "female" principal is great, the way she deal with children is perfect I think she shows compassion but she is also stern when need be. As for the new sports coordinator, Ms. Sword, She has done an amazing turn around just in the short time she has been in charge. When i ask her questions about where the money is going she can give me a break down with out even thinking twice. Un like the previous coordinator who couldn t tell me where any of my money was going, but Cleary she was using it on her "cheer team". Ms. Sword always calls me back and keeps me updated with any news.PAC is a GREAT SCHOOL!!!!

I attended Paramount Academy from 2nd grade until I graduated a few years back. It was very hard for me to move on from Paramount because it was like a home to me along with most of the students who were enrolled there. It is a pretty small school, which gives the advantage to the students because the teachers can focus in on the individual students and their needs, aswell as become friends with them. PAC has a friendly and very helpful staff that will do whatever they can to help you. I still check in on Paramount from time to time and the school has an exciting new principal that I wish I would have had the privilege of being guided by. I will cherish my days at PAC for the rest of my life.---High School Student

MY CHILD HAS BEEN GOING TO PAC SINCE 2ND GRADE. I'VE NEVER HAD ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH PAC UNTIL 5TH AND 6TH GRADE. I LOVE THE SCHOOL AND IT'S ENVIRONMENT. SEVERAL TEACHERS HAVE THEIR OWN CHILDREN ATTENDING PAC WHICH IS NO BOTHER TO ME. WHAT MY CONCERN IS THAT MY CHILD AND OTHER KIDS THAT ARE OF NO RELATION GET TREATED DIFFERENTLY. THE FAVORTISM THAT COMES WITH THIS CAN BE SEEN BY OTHER STUDENTS AS THEY GET OLDER WHICH IS WHAT MY CHILD HAS SEEN. MY DAUGHTER IS NO ANGEL BUT ALL STUDENTS DESERVE TO BE TREATED EQUALLY. WHAT I ENJOY ALSO AT PAC IS THE PERFORMANCES. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS OTHER STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPERTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN MAJOR PARTS OF THE PERFORMANCES. I SEE A LOT OF THE SAME STUDENTS WITH MAJOR PARTS EVERY PERFORMANCE AND HOPE THAT THIS WILL CHANGE IN THE COMING YEAR.

As a parent of one child at this school, I have never seen so much favortism before in my life! begining with the staff kids:( shame on you Paramount and ever since they got a new female principle Paramount has not been the same. I ask my child everyday how her day was and it seems as though the whole year of 09-10 never had any physical activity at all! They have done a wonderful job and the teachers are giving 100% all the time. As for those postings that 'it is all about money,' I think someone needs to learn about how schools work because I don't care whether it is public or private or charter...it always going to be about the money but PA is kids. I had to give just as much supplies in public as PA. Don't judge PA by the 'woe is me' reviews. Sports could be better.

We have found the academic programs at Paramount Academy to be about a year behind most public schools. For a school that focusses on performing arts; well let's just say we haven't been impressed. They have 2 plays a year & I have seen better programs at non-performing arts schools. There are zero sports programs, Phys. Ed. only when they aren't doing a play, which is most of the year.

Dr. Williams is an excellent principal. He is firm with the kids yet well liked. I prefer Paramount over public school any day. Better curriculum, teachers are eager and no burn out. Their music and acting classes make learning fun. Once you see a school performance you will see they are really organized. Once you child brings home more homework than you want then you know they are getting a better education than public. There is just enough kids to feel that they are not lost in the crowed, especially when everyone knows their name.

I felt I was misled by this school when enrolling my daughter. I had explained that she was advanced and would need to be challenged and was told that was not a problem. Reality is when I spoke to the teacher about the 'ability groups' that the administration had spoke of she didn't know what I was talking about. I was very unimpressed with the response from the teacher and administration when I requested my daughter be put in a more challenging group.

If you are a working parent and have a kindergarden child, this school is not for you. The lack of supervision and activity for the before and afterschool program is a concern. There is no separate playground or play area for Kindergarden children. All children K-8 share the playground many times at the same time. After two months at Paramount my son is reading, doing basic math concepts and feels great about himself. At the end of his kindergarten year, he wasn't even familiar with basic letter sounds. The 'character building' has been a great plus for him, and I know that because of the amount of discipline in the classroom, he is learning and not goofing around. Paramount has been amazing and I am so thrilled I transfered my son before he got any further behind.

I am very pleased with Paramount Academy. I could not keep my children at the public school in our neighborhood for it's lack of quality education and discipline. We enrolled at Paramount and found that my children get one on one attention in the classroom and their teachers really care about their futures. The pricipal is very involved with the character building of each student. Students are expected to act like top notch citizens and are taught this daily at the school. The drama and music classes are excellent and have given my children great self-esteem. My daughter has written term-papers, in the seventh grade, that will prepare her for college, not just high school. There is high parent involvement which makes classroom and after school activities and fundraisers a success. We will stay at this school as long as we can! When are you adding high school?
