The large classes made it a very impersonal experience for my daughter.

As a parent of a challenged freshman I have found it extremely difficult to get cooperation from the guidance counselors (i.e. phone calls not returned, what little assistance received was too little too late, childs problems were not taken seriously). The administration/faculty short changed my child for missing school due to a chronic illness (a form is available yet apparently a secret) by giving my child unexcussed absences. Overall, the staff cares but, parents must follow-up with counselors. Parents, you must be aggressive with your child's educators to ensure your student doesn't fall through the cracks!

As both a parent of a senior at this school and a travelling substitute language arts/social studies teacher, I am most impressed by the education at this high school. The administration is very supportive of the learning process and they also are agressive in their desire to achieve high marks in both the standardized tesitng and other areas of excellence - most notably in the number of students graduating and moving on into higher education. The curriculum supports the efforts of faculty and paretn alike, and the school makes a concereted effort to attain the lofty goals as set forth on their mission and values statements.

Mt Pointe is a growing school academically, athletically, and as a community presence. With only 10 years under its belt, it has won more championships than any other high school in Arizona during the smae time period. My children have each received a great education.

Mountain Pointe is constantly improving on the safety, the educational standards and the quality of student life in general. With such a wide variety of ethnic and economic students, it still is rated as one of the top schools both academically and athletically. It also is rated as one of the top extra curricular activity schools. Any student would really have to try to not be involved with something at Mountain Pointe.

There are problems with administration, teachers and coaches at Mt. Pointe. They really don't have the student's best interest at heart. Safety is also a concern.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.

For high schools, AIMS results, AYP status and graduation/dropout rates are used. Schools are identified as Excelling, Highly Performing, Performing Plus, Performing, Underperforming, Failing to Meet Academic Standards or Pending.
