I am 2009 alumni, college freshman. This school allowed me to come more out of my shell with the law magnet, cross country, track, volleyball, soccer, and NHS. There is so much to get involved in and so many opportunities. They notified me on scholarships and I got one. I was in top 3% of my class and I have a fullride.
My daughter goes to that school, and she hs never done better anywhere else shes very involved in the school, south mountain provides many programs an extracurricular activities.
South Mountain High School has a lot to offer. We have great magnet classes and clubs. Everyone here gets a long great, i love it here because the teachers and students make me feel welcomed.
I am currently a student and i wouldnt see my self anywere else. The Magnet programs are the best I'm in the Performing Arts and have loved it and the teachers are the best there for you alwyas.
To say the least good old South Mountain High School, must be one of the best schools in the state, for education and their outstanding Magnet Progams. Due to the schools 'BAD' reputation and 'heresay', alot of people fail to grasp such an idea of SMHS being a great school. I graduated from SMHS in 2005. I proudly walk out of SMHS with an internship at Honeywell. multiple acceptance letters, to Universitys all over the country, including Tuskegee University, USC, and Unversity of Maryland College Park, and my Private Pilot License. Without the guidance of my teachers and my parents, and the execlent programs i would not be the Man that I am. I hold my head up high any time, anyone ask me where i attended high school at. SMHS
South Mountain High School has a large campus full of diversity and the disire to learn. With programs including; Radio Broadcasting, Video Production, Aviation, and Robotics, every parent that wants the best for their young adults should take a tour.
As a student of South Mountain H.S. I trully thank God I attended this school. All the teachers really do care about us students. All the administraters and Security on campus are good going, Teachers will sit down with students and spend the time to really go over the material, Overal FIve starts for its edication, teachers, neatness, and Professional.
This was a great school. All the teachers were great and very helpful. The reputation is only for those people who have never been there. Great school
SMHS has a great honors and AP program. My senior AP English teacher was by far the most influential person in my life. The teachers at South really care about about the success of their students and strive to provide them witha quality education.
I can honestly say S. M. H. S. has a bad reputation, but it's a good school. The staff are very very good at doing their job. The administrative staff in the office have a difficult time completing brown slips for extracurricular activities-except for sports, which means that students on field trips, band festivals, etc. are being marked absent from classes. At South music isn't important.
As a former student of South Mountain, I have firsthand knowledge of what type of school it is. To be frank, SoMo is the type of school where, if a student is not personally motivated to strive for excellence, he or she will not get the help necessary. In other words, if he or she is not enrolled in honors/AP classes, which typically have the best teachers, they WILL not receive all the necessary skills to be able to compete with other students at the college/university level. It seems as if the school as a whole is content with merely getting students through its door, not bothering to prepare them for an education beyond SoMo. Furthermore, the academic counseling is subpar in many instances. As a senior, I spent months preparing a scholarship application only to be disqualified for it because my counselor didn't complete my nomination form.
South Mountain has a wonderful staff of teachers. It also has some of the top magnet programs in the state. Many people place SMHS under the 'rough' school category, but that is not true. The students are really well-behaved and dedicated to their studies.
South Maountain HS has not shown me as a parent that they care about the students. Since my sons have been going to this school I have not received any notices if something was wrong in a timely matter. If there is something that we need to know they let us know weeks later. I feel that this school is about making money off of a head count and they do not care about the students education.
As a parent I could not be more pleased with the level of education in which my son, neices and nephews have received while attending High School. South Mountain High School has proved itself to be the top in academics. The level of academic programs is number one in my book. When a child can learn to fly a plane, become a lawyer or even learn any of the arts which includes music recording, radio and television announcer all for free what's not to like. Quality education freeE career pathing. What more could a parent ask for?
My daughter is in her sophomore year at SMHS. She is enrolled in the Art Magnet program. I use to have a negative opinion of the school from hearsay, but when my daughter made her case of attending, I relented. The school has excellent magnet programs (music, dance, art, aerospace and law). The facilities are excellent. I believe if a child wants to exceed and do well at this school they can. My daughter's teachers have been great. They challenge her and expect her to do her best. Her 9th grade Algebra teacher, Mrs. Marmon, had the students working problems that students work on in College Alegbra. If the parents of students are involved and keep open communication with the teachers, a child can get a good education at SMHS.
Teachers seemed to encourage students to do extra credit and tried to give them a better chance to get good grades.
When my daughter had a problem at the school, we went to the principal, and we were assured it would be taken care of. It was never taken care of.
They need to get better coaches in their teams. Especially the Varsity volleyball team. I know of a Sophomore who attends the school and was kicked off the J.V. team because she didn't want to be on the Varsity team.
I have a child attending this school who is a freshman. My child has managed to achieve and keep an Honor Roll status so far. :) I do feel however that some of the 'rules/regulations' established years ago need to be reviewed and updated as far as sports are concerned.
