New marching band director is requiring much more time, travel and fundraising from students than in the past. If this keeps up my child will need to drop band to keep up with school work and other activities! a school music program should not be all consuming!

I am the parent of a freshman that came from a very small private school. Thunderbird administration and teachers made the transition very easy for my student. The Chief Parent Association is great very organized and does a great job for the school. I am very very happy with our choice of Thunderbird High School!

Overall, I really like this school. Accelerated/AP track is awesome - for the most part, the teachers cover their given topics extremely well. There is always something going on and a great sense of family exists at T-Bird. I only wish that some of the money spent on sports went toward performing arts, because we work terribly hard and have extremely good feedback from the community but the music/drama/dance treasuries pretty much run dry by the second semester, whereas the athletic treasuries never lose out.

I am a current student at Thunderbird High School and it is one of the best schools I have been to. The teachers are always there before or after school to help you with a problem or review for the test. The school also has a wonderful AP program. The teachers are very involved with their work and they will work with every student to help them pass the AP test. Overall, I feel that Thunderbird is an exceptional school because of how much the teachers care about their work and how much I myself have learned over my past three years there.

My son is attending 9th grade at THS on a variance. I was hesitant to allow him to attend but am glad I did. I cannot say enough about the teachers and counsellors he has. They really care that my son succeeds. The level of contact I have with them is great. I know they will keep me informed if my son misses an assignment so we can get him back on track. I am a very grateful parent. The feedback and level of communication is excellent. My son likes the way his teachers teach and he is learning and getting good grades. What more could a parent ask for. Congrats to THS and its excellent teachers.

My son graduated with honors and enjoyed his years at T-Bird. My daughter graduates this coming year and loves her school. I find the teachers to be involved, knowledgeable and the students like them very much. Well-rounded curriculum and extra curriculum. Overall a '5' with our family.

The art teacher is actually an art major/minor. She knows what she is doing. She is very critical of the students' work whick also makes them strive harder if that will be their goal in life.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
