Imagine Desert West is an amazing school. I am writing as a parent and a teacher. I have 3 students who attend and I am a teacher at the school. The teachers are caring and wonderful, the administration is helpful and understanding and my children are learning not only what they need academically but also socially through character development. I have noticed a strong initiative to increase parent involvement by adding APTT meetings. The school provides GED classes and English classes to parents as well. IDW is always clean and inviting. The office lady is so sweet and welcoming and will direct you to the person you need to answer questions. Since information changes often and classroom information is individualized and usually is communicated through newsletters from the teacher to the parents, she often says she isn't sure just so she doesn't give false or changed information. As a mother of 7 children, I wish this school was available for the education of my other 3 children . I know for sure we are here for my 3 to go through their schooling. My infant is also a future IDW Dragon. This school is a wonderful place to work and a safe place for my children as well.

Here at this school, i have not had any issues toward this school. In exclusive this is my childs first year attending this school so far is good, like the way his teacher is teaching him. Before here he didnt write, well expressed himself and now he write lil paragraphs cuz his 6 he write more then usual. He reads more, and loves math. Yes, the front desk lady needs more addittude, looks like she dont like her job, and looks like she doesnt know. As far as ID's i havent seen them as for one, but maybe because i allways go pick up my child....

Imagine Schools at Desert West 6738 West McDowell Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85035 Horrible! You call the office and the lady that works the front office never has a clue about anything you ask her. The principal never calls you back when you leave him a message about an issue you are having. Totally not recommend this "school".

I strongly disagree with the previous review. So mich so that I joined here just to comment. Over crowding of classrooms isnt a Desert West problem. Its every school in America. Compared to schools in the area DW has decent sizes. My sons class only has 20 kids. And their teacher is great! As far as yelling, never had an issue. Except once..one teacher yelled at a student during dismissal. Because the kid ran infront of a car. If that was my child. Id be happy.

when the school first opened the staff was great the classes were small the students got the attention they needed. fast forward different staff and the classes are overcrowded. its a complete mess. when I walk down the hallways to drop off my kids at class I hear teachers yelling and kids crying either because their teachers are mean and overload them with work or the teachers yelling because they cant control their class. do you remember teachers yelling at you in elementary? I sure don't. my kids are terrified of either their teachers or staff at the school. I have tried contacting the principal with my concerns since December and have gotten the runaround. this school lacks communication between parents and their educators. If you honestly care about your children and want the best education for them and want caring and communicative school staff this is NOT the school for them.

My child has been with them since it first opened in 2006 when she began kindergarten, some of the staff that is still there from when my child knows have been very caring and compassionate to her emotional needs and are dedicated to make sure she gets the best education ever. And Mr. V is the best pricipal that has ever been in that school.I give this school an A+.

I love this school. I like the small class sizes and I believe they have a big concern about safety which is great. My daughter's aunt had to pick her up one day instead of me and had a hard time picking her up. I was a little upset at first, but then realized it's all about safety!!

The teachers and staff take pride in their school and they are there for the right reasons the students. First and utmost their lesson plans are sufficient and challenging for the students. The school is going through a transition due to a new principal coming in and new staff but they are doing a great job.

Very uncooperative staff. Hard to get info. and they almost always never returned a phone call. I always had to keep calling back or send numerous emails.

The teachers and staff here are excellent. I've picked up my daughter numerous times and though they know who I am by now, they still make sure that I sign in and check id

Teachers do not take time with the students and treat them poorly. They have never checked ID when someone comes to pick up my child, they just ley him go home with anyone. They also do not have any challenging curriculum or any learning plan for students, its just like a take it day by day school, my son learn a lot more at tutor time.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
